Royal Mail did not deliver this order on time, so the customer was understandably unhappy. We try to manage expectations by stating that the Tracked 48 hour service can take up to 3-5 working days (in this case it took 4 working days to deliver). There was only one delivery option available when this order was placed, we normally offer Tracked 24hour service as well. However, due to a family bereavement a few days before we had removed the fast option as we were not able to spend as much time in the office. We responded to the customer within 90 minutes, apologised for Royal Mail's poor performance and refunded their order in full and still only get a 1 star review! Can't please everyone.

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to review – I appreciate you’re not happy and I’d like to help if I can.

I’m sorry you’re disappointed in the seeds. Wildflower seeds are varied in size, and some are very small indeed. 600 seeds would likely fit several pots, with a recommended seed spreading of 2g per square metre. I believe the seeds are a mix of perennials and annuals, so the likelihood is that planting all will mean you get a different mix this year to that of next year. Regarding the cost, it is the mixture itself that costs the money – some of these seeds are more ‘vigorous’ than others, so each mixture is carefully proportioned so that you get a nice variety, not one single type of flower dominating. This sort of mix you would struggle to obtain by getting seeds from seedpods, although I agree that a nature walk is an invaluable experience for children and adults, and would wholeheartedly recommend it (as long as the whole plant is not picked or uprooted).

We would be happy to send you a replacement set of seeds with your permission. Also, we have opened a packet to count the seeds, so that we are not unwittingly misleading anyone, and there are actually 620 seeds in the packet: 62 piles of 10, as seen in the picture here: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1254/1865/files/PHOTO-2022-04-07-12-59-32-small.jpg?v=1649334210. They come directly from the supplier like this, so please understand that we are unable to open every packet and check. If you are able to take a picture of all the seeds, then please send it in to us and we will speak with the supplier.

As for the quality of our website, please let me explain the scripts and trackers. Firstly, we do not run ads on our website. If you believe you have found 4 ads, please get in touch as these are not part of our website and never will be. Secondly, scripts and trackers are very vague terms for diverse sets of javascript on the website, which are vital to let it run correctly, as is the case for almost every published website. For instance, there are scripts running on the website to allow product reviews to show, for you to be able to zoom in on the pictures, and for the pictures to load in the background for faster loading. There are also scripts to improve security while using the online payment process. Blocking these will detrimentally impact the usability and, possibly, security of the website. Trackers, I agree, are for collecting data, but are collecting general information, such as the country you are browsing from and how you came to our website (i.e. through Google or directly, etc.) – we use these so that we can get out website to the right people, and improve the way people navigate through the website. This is all outlined in our terms and conditions. I’m sorry that you feel this is unacceptable.

We take the accusation that we are a ‘dodgy business’ very seriously and we are very hurt by this. We are a family business, run by just four unpaid volunteers, three of whom have full-time jobs alongside running Gardening For Kids. We are not, as you claim, ‘making a fortune’ – in the 6 years we have been running, not one of us has been paid a single penny, and it is hurtful that you believe we are in this for the money or to ‘harvest your data’. We do everything in our power to be open and honest with customers, and everything that we write on our website is done so in good faith. Our entire aim is to get children outside and enjoying the garden and nature, and we have thousands of happy children and parents who testify to our authenticity.

We are not a big corporate entity, just four people working tirelessly and for free to connect children with nature.

I hope this has helped clarify some things. Please get in touch with us if you’d like us to send you some more seeds, and any information you have about the ‘ads’ on our website. I will also email you with this reply so we can rectify it for you.
