We sent two items in to sell. (Both brand new- one had tags, the other we had already cut off but neither worn). Shipping in is free. It took them forever to get the items up (missing out the season they would be for). We didn’t realize that every 30 days they reduce the price. ( this is found in fine print but certainly not made clear when you start the process ). If the jacket we sent in (with tags retails over $100) sold today we would get just under $4. Yes FOUR DOLLARS. And to mail it back (this is a very light weight shell that maybe weighs 2 oz) cost me just over $13. Plus side they answer emails very quickly

I need my correct amount payout.
I have a question and would like someone to explain to me. The invoice stated the amount I sold my item for which is $250 in which I barely made profit and the item is brand new with the plastic bag on it and tag. Also in the invoice it shows tax for $23.98 and $32.00 for flat rate shipping which I asked the buyer to pay. And I saw $235.33 as my final payment from you guys. You guys took $70.65 of the item I sold which is totally wrong. After taking $46.67 as commission you guys still robbed me of the tax for $23.98. at the end I lost. I paid $43 just to ship the item. This is unfair.
I am supposed to be left with $259 after taking your Commission not $235. my name is chernor mansaray and would like you guys to fix it and give me my correct amount.

I ordered a great product for a reasonable price.
I communicated my rush to receive due to an impending trip.
Jesse shipped it overnight for me! No extra charge. :)

Nope.
They make it easy to send your gear in, but take forever to get your items listed. And my fault, but I should have checked the payout.... 40%. I sent them a $120 jacket and got $20. Such a rip off. Do not recommend doing business with them. Just sell the items yourself.

Good company with High Commission
Overall seems to be a great company, with lots of great clothing, gear, and parts for sale. I feel as if 17-20% is an unbelievably high commission rate for an online platform. Most in person outdoor used stores, will only take 25% commission. For this reason, I will probably sell most items else where, such as Requipper (7%) or Facebook (0%).

Awesome Site to sell outdoor products
I used Geartrade's consignment service to sell a closetful of gear and was really surprised by how easy it was. I have sold on eBay, Facebook marketplace, as well as other sites and the convenience factor that Geartrade provides is unmatched. They sent me a box, I piled my gear in, and sent it off on their dime. When the product was ready for sale after they processed the items, I got the option to increase or decrease my price. The product presentation was solid and my items sold quickly. Geartrade sends a lot of emails, I assume to over communicate what is going on, so it's easy to overlook a few, but the real value here is the ability to sell big ticket items without having to worry about getting penalized for shipping, and being able to sell all of the in-between items that get overlooked on all the other platforms. Payouts were simple, and I got paid for my items in a timely fashion. There was one item that sold, and got returned, then resold which was interesting. At first I was bummed, because I just wanted my item to sell, but the overall service totally makes sense. I have never seen a used gear website offer the ability to return an item and usually its a major hassle as you end up just negotiating with the seller. Most times you end up stuck with the gear. Which sucks. But if I were buying that would be a major plus factor for me. From the seller side, not having to negotiate or fight about the value of an item with a buyer just ends up saving time and money. Again the convenience factor of not having to list each item by my self, wasting hours at a time, not having to meet someone in a parking lot, and not having to negotiate the value of an item is well worth it. Great job Geartrade. Glad I found this website.
Zero support for sellers
Edit 2: Geartrade is now "asking for more details" on negative reviews at Trustpilot in an attempt to get them removed. If you do not respond to the "request" in a timely manner, your review will be removed, as per Trustpilot policies. Essentially they are trying to game the system to silence negative reviews and improve their lackluster rating, instead of making the necessary improvements on their business to get better reviews. Geartrade just keeps getting slimier.
Edit: Geartrade's response is largely falsified. They made exactly one mediocre attempt to contact the buyer and then hoped I would just drop the issue by not following up on my previous emails. Again, I repeat: they 1) pressured me into making a sale I did not want to make 2) reneged on a written promise made in email 3) invented rules on the spot that never existed in any written policies 4) modified my profile without notifying me or getting my consent
---------------------------------------------------------------
I (was) a five star seller on Geartrade with 34 successful sales and 13 unbroken five star reviews, and also frequently shipped the same day the item was purchased, with an average ship time of 14 hours. In addition, I offered free shipping on all my items, paid for out of my own pocket.
Months ago, I had to cancel a sale to a buyer because I was out of town for the holidays (it was shortly before Christmas). I owned responsibility for this and promptly informed the customer.
Shortly later, I received an email from Geartrade claiming the buyer was very interested in purchasing the item, and despite my misgivings in selling an item to a customer that might be annoyed and therefore give me a bad review, I gave into pressure after Geartrade repeatedly emailed me.
I bent over backwards trying to get the item shipped as fast as possible to the buyer, including taking unpaid time off work to ship the item on the day I said I would ship, yet the buyer ended up leaving me a one-star review, which was exactly what I feared.
I contacted Geartrade about getting the review removed as 1) They had interfered in the sale and pressured me to make it happen, 2) I had a very good track record, and 3) the one-star review was clearly not indicative of the experience and against the review policy of the site.
After many emails, in which Geartrade dodged my questions and concerns and generally just patronized me, I finally threatened to leave the site after not hearing from them for two weeks. On this they offered to remove the star portion of the review, which I agreed to.
However, they didn't delete the star portion, they deleted the whole review, which was fine by me but a little weird.
Now, 5 months later, they suddenly re-added the entire review back to my profile without consulting or informing me. When I contacted them about this, they said they made a mistake and decided to reverse their decision, without providing any explanation other than their "review policy" (doesn't actually say this if you read it) only allows reviews to be deleted with both parties' consent.
When I told them I would have no choice to leave, the CSR sent an extremely sarcastic response back, and ignored my request to delete my account.
Don't sell here. They treat sellers like second-class citizens and let buyers do whatever they want with zero consequences.

Gear trade does not have a refund…
Gear trade Has a convoluted return and refund policy when items are mis represented. I'm not sure if this is unique to gear trade. I was eventually able to get a refund when an item was represented by the seller. However, It did take a lot of emails and hassle.

Very Happy With My Boot Purchase
I bought a pair of boots from Backcountry on Geartrade.com and my experience with them was excellent. To me the boots were better than described and I was very happy with the purchase.
Good experience
Very helpful with shipping speed, got my stuff quickly enough to use it on a trip. Really appreciate the the customer service, shout out to Sandra!
tricky selling structure
The selling process if you choose to sell on your own takes some getting used to, but it offers options. You can choose to list at a fixed price, allow offers or lower the offer on a decreasing schedule as a function of time. This helps to speed up sales. To avoid selling at a price below a clearing level, the seller should understand that various offers and counteroffers can take place privately with a buyer, but that once an offer is accepted, the agreed on price is public and offered to all other buyers.
Factoring today's high shipping rates, typically paid by the seller, and competitive pricing, the transaction structure is biased in favor of the buyer. If you subtract the commission, and consider the annoying unnecessary waiting period to get paid, you wonder whether it was worth the effort. If a buyer is stoked, though, and this is expressed in a review, then there's more reward to the seller. Lauren, who is from customer service and is excellent, please take note.

Avoid consignment selling process
My experience selling items directly on Geartrade has been a pretty good one, quick enough if you sell the item on your own and leave Geartrade out of the process. I decided to try their consignment program to sell a bunch of items, and that was a big mistake. Way too slow even when your gear sells quickly. I had several items sell within a couple of days, but nearly a month later and I still have not been paid for a single item. Very little communication from Geartrade, like pulling teeth. If you're going to use Geartrade to sell items, list it on your own and deal directly with individual buyers.

Secret stash of gear, superb people.
I don't want to say too much about the gear I've scored on Geartrade. It's like that one stash of powder that you only share with your closest friends. Sometimes.
As for their customer service - wow. I couldn't be more impressed. In all the interactions I've had the rep went above and beyond my expectations. I feel like I now know someone who works there and can reach out trusting it'll be handled as a good friend would handle it. You guys rock. 🪨
Great company and great customer…
Great company and great customer service. Had some issues with package delivery and instantly helped me through the process with little effort on my end. No jumping through calls that left me on hold. Been using their service for years which is a great hub for commerce and recycling gear. All around super happy finding and using this site.
AMAZING Customer Service!
So cool to buy from a site for outdoor gear while also helping the outdoors!
I bought some amazing barely used bouldering pants and USPS made a mishap and it seemed like they may have sent my package to the wrong state, but Lauren from customer service contacted me, helped me out, and was even interested on my upcoming climbing trip🙂I never leave reviews, but she was so nice I had to hahah! Anyway, this is a really cool company.
I've been looking for an option to be…
I've been looking for an option to be able to pick up gear that doesn't cost a as much as a sports franchise it seems don't want to be committed to something I will use a hand full of times a year. Geartrade is the place. Used gear and new gear as well and the quality is still there. It's not a free for all they do have a customer support team that is more than able willing to handle any problems between transactions and they have great communication, communication that is lacking in most online support sites. I had a transaction that was a little hasty but the customer service team made it worth it, hats of to there calm approach! Security, a whole prethera of catagories if u wanna get quality, lasting outdoor gear at unbelievable prices, without sacrifice of concern while your out there Geartrade is the place!!!
Geartrade is awesome
Geartrade is awesome. It was easy to learn and easy to use. I made a few bucks and my gear found a good home. When one mishap occurred and my gear didn’t arrive at the destination (stolen?), Geartrade alerted me and helped solve the problem… with a smile. Lauren’s customer service skills are perfect. Nice to know there’s good, real people out there in the world 🙃
