11.68 KW - My Experience w. Glyde Solar: A Smart Investment & Sleek Upgrade
I recently had Glyde Solar install a solar system on my home in Erie, CO, and overall, my experience has been positive. We installed a fairly large 11.68 kW system, and while I’m happy with the performance so far, there are a few things I’d recommend for others considering solar.
The Installation Process:
Glyde Solar handled the installation efficiently and professionally. The team was communicative, and the process went smoothly without any major hiccups. We did have a pretty severe hailstorm in May 2023, with hen egg-sized hail, which resulted in two of our panels getting cracked. Out of the 36 panels on our roof, having just two with aesthetic damage was better than I expected. Despite the damage, the panels were still producing power, but we decided to get them replaced. Glyde was great about this—they replaced the panels at a minimal cost, and their crew made sure everything was back to full working order before they left.
System Performance and Monitoring:
Since the system went live, I’ve been able to monitor everything through SolarEdge’s app, which I really enjoy. It’s satisfying to see how much power I’m producing each day and to cross-check that with my utility bills. It’s worth noting that I don’t entirely trust utility companies to provide accurate readings, so having this monitoring capability is really important to me. Not only this, our system is overproducing about 4,000kwh extra a year… an unexpected free gift.
Love for the Panels:
I have to say, I absolutely love my solar panels. I never really understood why some people think solar looks cheap. I’ll agree that some of the older blue and white-trimmed panels aren’t the most attractive, but the ones that Glyde Solar installs are completely different. They use monocrystalline panels that look like sleek 65-inch TVs spread across my roof. They’re incredibly clean and modern looking. Living in Colorado, where we get a lot of sun and rain, these panels stay surprisingly clean. Even when it snows, the snow melts off the panels quickly, so they aren’t covered for long, and we’re still producing plenty of power throughout the winter, not just in the summer.
Financial Considerations:
If I had to do it again, I would definitely recommend going with the largest system your utility allows, especially considering how solar can increase your home’s resale value. For us, United Power only allows a 120% offset, but I’ve heard Excel Energy allows up to 200%. If I were in their service area, I’d absolutely go for the maximum offset—it’s just smart in terms of long-term value, especially if you ever plan to sell your home.
A key point to consider is that you can only claim the federal tax credit once. This means if you plan to add a battery or additional panels later, you won’t get the same tax benefit as you did with the initial installation. Speaking of batteries, in hindsight, I wish I’d gone for one. With utilities finding new ways to charge customers—like demand charges even if you’re overproducing power—it seems like batteries are going to become increasingly valuable. I’m excited to see what new options come on the market and will probably look into it when we can.
Final Thoughts:
All in all, I’m happy with my solar system, and I feel it was a good investment. Glyde Solar did a solid job, and the system is performing well, but there are definitely things to consider if you’re thinking about going solar. If you can afford to max out your system size and add a battery, I think it’s worth it, especially given the potential financial and resale benefits down the line. Plus, the panels themselves are a sleek addition to the home, not just an energy solution.

Materials were delivered to the wrong location
Materials were delivered to the wrong location, which put us a day behind. Our contractors went and picked up the materials and did a wonderful job. They were pleasant and communicated every step with us. Other than the problem with delivery, Glyde Solar has done a very good job keeping us informed and everything as gone very smoothly. Now that the install is done waiting for final inspection.

Glyde Solar is an intentionally dishonest company.
I am a medically retired air force vet that was scammed. I've decided it would be morally reprehensible of me to not try and make as many people as possible aware of Glyde Solar’s business model so that other people, especially folks from the nearby military bases and their families avoid this company. Glyde Solar’s business practices, namely the hidden cancelation fee cost, the company's propensity for delays, and the company's tendency to submit last minute design choices all paint a grim picture. One of a company trying to sandwich people between the hidden cost of the cancelation fee, and an ever increasing total project cost.
Glyde solar does not disclose the cancelation fee costs during initial contract signing, and the salespeople do a great job deflecting questions asked about the cancelation fee or dismiss the costs as negligible. Glyde Solar will acknowledge they aren’t present with the salesperson so they can’t verify what they did or didn’t say, this is an attempt to push the blame to the customer. It’s your fault as the customer that you didn’t know if the salesperson was being upfront with you, because Glyde Solar isn’t going to monitor the salesperson to make sure they are being honest. When you file a complaint to Glyde Solar, they will tell you they weren’t being dishonest and that it’s too complex to give an estimate of the cancelation costs early on. This suggests that they either delete all their sales and cancelation fee data and thus have no information to average and give the customer up front, or they willfully choose not to disclose this information. They will also tell you that it’s you, the customer’s responsibility to know what they are going to charge in their cancelation fee, despite the contract not listing the cancelation fee costs.
The real cost of cancellation is 3500 dollars or more depending on the stage the project is in during cancelation. This number is an average compiled from complaints lodged at Trustpilot, Google Reviews, and the Better Business Bureau as well as my own experiences with the company. There are four items on the cancelation invoice. Roughly 400 dollars for Site survey. 1200 dollars for CAD and Engineering: They are charging you this amount to fly a drone over your house for a minute, take pictures, and then play Tetris with said pictures to figure out how many solar panels they can fit. This gets rolled into the loan and ends up being an obscene over charge in the life of the loan. Permitting and interconnection costs 2000 dollars in most cases. If you complain about this cost being hidden, they will say the customer should be an expert in permitting and solar interconnection and just know these costs. The last item is processing fees, about 200 dollars.
Glyde Solar will usually have significant delays in actually installing and fully activating the solar panels. This is corroborated with numerous complaints on Google Reviews, the Better Business Bureau, and other similar review sites. In some cases, in can take up to a year to fully activate the solar panels, with changes in cost coming from double dipping normal electricity bills tied with the solar panel loan, additional inspections, roofing repairs that are made known last minute, or changes in equipment in some cases further leading to delays and potential increase in cost. Glyde Solar also has a tendency to push last minute plan changes onto the customer and then reveal what the actual cost of cancelation is. In my case, the salesperson used a private line to call and push a last minute extra panel and then chose at that moment to reveal the cancelation costs would be thousands. The company's response was to try and gaslight me and say that I was the one who initiated the project change, despite my phone records showing a private call made from their salesperson. More to say, but out of characters. Editing to comment that company reply didn't dispute that they don't show the actual costs of the cancelation fee in the initial contract. They could average their own sales data or average cancelation costs in an area to give people a rough estimate of the cancelation fees in the initial contract, It would be relatively simple and be far more transparent which your company claims is important.

Glyde Solar was the worst company I have ever worked with after spending 70 grand it took them 9 months from the time we signed until they were up and running. No one kept us in the loop of what was happening at one point they had to hire another Solar Co to come in do some work and in hindsight I would never spend that much money for Solar alone and you don’t even get a battery!! So electricity goes out your screwed…I don’t think Solar is all it’s cracked up to be…we had a $170 light bill this month WTH
