Refund refused: Credit card company solved it

We made a reservation knowing that with Covid we might have to cancel- and of course it came to pass. We cancelled within the window for a full refund but they refused to honor their own policy. Kenneth was whom we worked with. Fortunately our credit card company reversed the charges so it didn’t affect us- short version: Make sure you use a good credit card to manage any bookings with them

Hotelwiz--Not a legitimate business

I made a seemingly normal hotel reservation in July though Hotelwiz. This is a merchant that pops up when searching for hotels on Google, by the way. However, I immediately realized that the website had defaulted to a two night reservation when I only needed one. So after reviewing the confirmation email, I immediately emailed back asking to change it to one night only. I received an automated response that someone would be in touch.
The next day, I received an email from someone name "Kenneth" at Travelerhelpdesk.com. I had been making a few reservations at the time and did not realize exactly what it was in regards to, since all the email said was, and I quote:

" Hi dear James,
Greetings from hotelwiz!
Please find the price for one night stay!
*******@travelerhelpdesk.com"
Followed by a price with the name of the hotel.

So what does that even mean? I very clearly asked to cancel one night and leave the other. Did they do it? Would I be here writing this if they did?
But that's not all. A few days later, I replied to the email, writing:

"Hi Kenneth,
Just wanted to make sure this modification was finalized? I didn't see a refund in my account yet so just wasn't sure.
Thanks"

I never received any response to this email at all. Eventually, a few more days passed, and on August 16 I called them and they told me at that point it was too late to cancel. Too late to cancel? I *tried* to cancel within 30 minutes of making the booking. The booking confirmation email also stated free cancellation before August 16. And they told me that they did not cancel over email because I "did not accept the price for a 1 night stay." The email never asked me to take any action at all, yet despite that I still emailed back to confirm they had cancelled. Did they do it? Of course not. Too much trouble.

Nevertheless, I contacted the hotel directly to let them know I wouldn't be there on the first night. They made note of it, but of course cannot cancel it on their end. Afterward, I began a months-long battle going back and forth with their customer service and a charge dispute for the price of one night through Visa and Capitalone. Ultimately, capitalone claimed Visa would not refund me because "the merchant did not accept the dispute." I don't know what merchant, let alone one as awful as Hotelwiz would, but go on. Later, Capitalone mailed me a copy of the response they had received from Hotelwiz, including a supposed copy of the hotel confirmation email. This one, however, had been FORGED to state that the booking was non-refundable. Not non-cancellable after August 16, as the original stated, but non-refundable, period. I called capitalone to inform them of this. Did they care? Of course not. I have no doubt this is a common "business practice" by illegitimate businesses such as these.

Hotelwiz violated their own cancellation policies, never mind that they failed to properly communicate with me and ignored my email. Nothing about this merchant is legitimate. You might as well be ordering from a shady guy in an alley.

Great for same day reservations

I'm glad I didn't read all the terrible reviews about this site, because I would have missed a great bargin. I paid $135 a night instead of $219. I went to the hotel (Embasy Suites, Tukwila, WA) to check it out first, then I booked on my phone from the lobby. It took about 10 minutes to reach the hotel's system. The Site clearly stated non-refundable which appears to be the biggest complaint in most reviews. I don't think I'd trust the site for booking in advance , but it's fabulous for day of bookings.

The price was great

The price was great. Unfortunately when I got to the hotel, the pool was closed. Because I wanted a pool they informed that they had a hotel at the next exit and their pool was open. So I cancelled that registration and rebooked down the street. 8 weeks later and I’am still waiting for my refund. They always have an excuse, waiting on something, kinda have the feeling I will never get my refund.
No more schedule if with Hotelwiz

SCAM FRAUD & STOLE CC INFO

SCAM SCAM FRAUD, ++ STOLE and SOLD Credit Card Info. DO NOT BOOK with HotelWiz. I booked a one night stay and they never paid the hotel even though they charged my credit card. The hotel then also charged me for the stay. I asked for a refund for services not rendered and they said they would pay the hotel, but never did. A man with an accent picks up the phone and makes it feel like it's your fault. Then a fakely nice email is sent reassuring you that they are taking care of it, but they are NOT. They just leave you in limbo waiting for nothing. Meanwhile, there were suspicious charges on my card after this incident and I know HotelWiz stole my credit card info. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD. They will charge you for the hotel without setting up the reservation and STEAL and SELL your CC info!

AVOID!! received a cancellation email one day before the trip

After all arrangements had been made for my trip I get this email: What would you want to do with such service?
=======
Dear XYZ,

Greetings from HotelWiz!

We regret to inform you, that we our hotel partners have received the email from the hotel & they informed us that the property is completely overbooked. Our hotel partners have tried to find the alternative hotel options. But unfortunately, none of them had rooms, therefore, your reservation has been cancelled free of charge.

Card Number Sold?

Used this site and I everything went fine with actual booking a hotel the only thing is you do pay resort fees to the hotel directly. No the actual charging my card is worth had issues. I used a brand new card which I never use any other company. A few days after my card was charged by hotelwiz (bookingbargains.com who actually owns hotelwiz was the actual processor but when I got to the hotel I found out they booked though Expedia) anyway a couple days after my reservation my card was charged a little over $2000 dollars by a local company who does not seem to do any real business. Since this is the only place I use this car is pretty obvious that either they charged it or selling the cards or have a leak. BE CAREFUL

Shady! To say the least.

This company also goes by the name of bookingbargains.com. I booked a hotel room that offered "Free cancellation before : Aug 20, 2022 12:00:00 AM (Hotel Local Time)," as it says on my receipt. I called back shortly after my booking to cancel the reservation. My attempt to cancel was long before Aug 20 and 12:00 AM (Hotel Local Time), but they refused. They said that it was because their supplier was in Istanbul and that it was already tomorrow there. Ridiculous, I know! This was most likely a lie and definitely goes against their agreement on the contract (as stated above). To say this company is shady would be an understatement. They give a bad name to all discount travel sites. Needless to say, I won't be using them again.

Legit Savings, just confirm it. Call the hotel!

I'm adding this review, because after seeing all the reviews that this site was a scam. I called the hotel and my reservation was confirmed and I'm good to go. I saved like $50 but I also got some extra amentities that would have costed alot more. So, I am very, very, pleased with this outfit.

Do not book using this service

Do not book using this service. I booked a hotel and they issued a confirmation code but when arriving at the hotel I discovered the front desk person had walked off the job a week prior. There was a group of guests also waiting to checkin (presumably HotelWiz customers) who called corporate and discovered the issue. How does a company provide a confirmation code without an available room? After contacting Ken at HotelWiz he rudely informed me it was my problem and I had to resolve the issue. So essentially they just take your money without verifying anything about the service being provided. Also, it's oftentimes the same amount you would pay by calling the hotel directly, if not, it's a few dollars cheaper. Save yourself the hassle and avoid this company!

SCAM!!

SCAM!!! please do not book through this site! Spend a little extra and book through a reputable site.

These people are complete scammers. I did everything they asked to receive a refund and they straight up lied and told me the hotel denied the refund, but I had confirmation # and approval direct from the hotel manager. Such a joke.

I opened a dispute via my CC company for fraud.

I want to assure- THEY ARE SCAMMERS

I want to assure to all again, that they are scammers, they will just take your money without making an actual booking for the room, and you will be dreaming about the refund. They are scammers with very bad CS, the CS will keep lying to you. DON'T BE TRICKED BY THEIR LOW PRICE, THEY ARE SCAMMERS.

Horrible Policy!

I booked a hotel through Hotelwiz. After the booking, I realized that the dates for the booking were incorrect. It had the following day of the booking as a default for the time frame and I needed it for that weekend. I called Hotelwiz Customer Service within five minutes of realizing my mistake. They informed me that their policy doesn't allow for any changes or refunds. They absolutely wouldn't help me change the date of the booking. After I got off the phone with them, I contacted the hotel itself. The person at the hotel was amenable to changing the dates if they had availability for the dates I needed, but said they couldn't change it without Hotelwiz contacting them to do so. I tried one more time to call Hotelwiz to let them know the hotel was willing to change booking dates. They repeated the same policy back to me that they can't change dates or provide refunds. In short, it cost me approximately $200 for a understandable mistake and a hotel reservation that I couldn't use! I've learned my lesson to read the policy prior to booking anything. Caveat emptor

Bad costumer sevice

I booked a room in Phoenix Az using Hotelwiz. The room they set up for me was filthy, had no AC which makes it impossible to stay in with temperature over 100. I asked for a refund at the desk, they said I need to get it from Hotelwiz. I called Hotelwiz and was told it was not refundable. So I asked for a number for the corporate office. I was told there is no corporate office and the agent hung up the phone . I tried several times with the same result. This is the worse costumer service I've ever dealt with . Can anybody tell me what can be done about this?

Complete scam. Booked a hotel, they took my money but never paid the hotel. Resulting in me having to pay the hotel also. All in all ended up spending $1000 for 4 days in a room that was advertised at $96 a night.
