One of a number of disgusting companies that scammed my 84-year old father with dementia out of his savings. Can only assume they some how got hold if his bank details and set-up a direct debit for unspecified services…

Scammers preying on the vulnerable
If I could give a zero rating I would. My elderly mother, who has advanced dementia has received a direct debit instruction to take £195 per year from her bank account. I would very much like to know how they got in touch with her, as she is in assisted living and has no phone! I have asked them to let me know how the information was obtained and if no response I will contact the ICO as they have no legal right to use this information.
**EDIT** The reply from HSG claim they only renew policies, however my mother has never had a policy with HSG or any other 'provider' for at least 3 years. We have asked 3 times for proof of the renewal conversation, which HSG have failed to provide.

Treatment of elderly people.
This company charged my elderly mother £259 for a year's maintenance cover which she did not need. When I pointed this out they said there was nothing they could do and refused to reimburse the money. They suggested if I processed the Power of Attorney they would pay it back in full. They did not. In my opinion they prey on elderly people. Disgraceful.

Scam
This is a scam company. They pray on the old and confused to setup a Direct Debit for a product they don't want and probably doesn't exist.

Scammers and scum
Clearly prey on the elderly and seem to get details which have no been shared with them. Tried to set up two direct debits from my elderly mother and robbed her of £170 for a product she neither had nor needed. Absolute scum of the earth. Will be reporting to the Police.

Household Service Group scam?
Oh dear, my poor friend who is 82 with dementia has I guess also been scammed by Household Service Group. Speaking to her bank they have taken two lots of money £249 in July 2024 and £195 in Sept 2024. Let's see how they respond to my email.
This lead to two other companies (I wonder if it's all linked) also selling her maintenance contracts she doesn't need (one called Assist Home 24, the other Golden Home Cover, both through Harland Services).
Update: A lovely lady phoned responding to my email and promised to reimburse the £195.00. The other from Interbacs Ltd they say is not theirs.
Some advice: Her bank have been great and will recover the money.

Please amend your review. The one charge related to HSG has been refunded by us even though we hold a call recording of the contract renewal request. The other issues are not in any way related to us.
My response to HSG - 1. she has dementia it probably would have been obvious. 2. when you read the small print nothing she owns would have been covered. Perhaps HSG needs to ask what the customer has and how old the item is!!

My elderly father has just received a letter from this company stating that they have set up of DD’s. The letter states his bank account details. My father says he’s never even spoken to anybody and knows nothing of it and never given his bank details out!!! So how on earth have they got them! The number on the letter when called says it’s invalid extension. My father is so stressed out and now has to go to his bank! Disgusting 🤢

PLEASE BE AWARE - unauthorised direct debits
As with a previous reviewer (James McCabe) this company set an unauthorised Direct Debit on my mother’s account. She lives in a home due to dementia and has no access to her accounts so I know she has not agreed to this Direct Debit. I have had a continuous battle with similar companies who prey on the elderly tricking them into giving their account details. PLEASE BE AWARE
UPDATE I have had a lovely reply from Household service group saying they acted following a telephone conversation with my mum - Well that’s really interesting as my mum has been living in a care home for a number of months. They also claimed they were just renewing the cover - She didn’t have any! It would be interesting to listen to the telephone call they claim to have had. Just further examples of how they bully elderly people into allegedly agreeing to part with their money

Scammers preying on vulnerable people
"Scammers preying on elderly people" - wrote another reviewer. Seems pretty accurate. A letter from the Household Service Group Ltd was sent to my my elderly mother telling her that they will be taking £195 cover an appliance service plan. When I called they stated that this was an "insurance" (their word) plan that my mother had agreed to following a call they made to her. Household Service Group Ltd are not registered with the FCA therefore are to permitted to sell insurance in the UK. They don't care whether or not they are permitted to do things. That is why they will cold call people who are registered with the Telephone Preference Service and ignore the message added by the police to vulnerable people with dementia, like my mother, that clearly tells them to hang up if they are not friends or family. I don't get calls like that but my name is not down on a list of vulnerable people that business owners like the scumbag Jonathan Moore-Ayling prey on. I have reported them to Action Fraud.

Scammers preying on elderly people
Scammers preying on elderly people - wrote to my elderly mother to tell her that they will be taking £195 from her account in seven days time to cover an appliance service plan that she didn't ask for. This is the third time in the last twelve months that a similarly named company has pulled this trick - when I phoned to challenge them they claimed that she gave them her bank details but that certainly wasn't the case - she may be old but she's not stupid!

Dodgy sales from a dodgy company
Same experience as those posting one star reviews. Mysterious direct debit for £195 set up against my dad's account, for an appliance already covered. Apparently "calls are made" say HSG customer services. I doubt this is Telephone Preference Service/GDPR compliant. The firm that handles HSG's direct debits is also concerned about its practices.
*EDIT*
Similar experience to Gillian and others. If HSG only renew contracts, why are people getting letters setting up direct debits? If these contracts already exist, and if HSG has full records and a quality assurance department, why can they not provide this information when asked? I sent HSG a GDPR subject access request asking for details, but have had no response, despite a reminder.
