Great communication and advice, Excellent Products

Andrew was super helpful in communicating with me about the setup of igaro C1 on my bike, placement, mounts, etc. so when i placed my order I was sure I had all components/accessories I needed for proper install given my bike's setup. Great communication throughout the entire process. Item shipped quickly, and arrived quickly considering it was shipped to US. I had some trouble getting the app to connect to the C1. On the website there is a note under the C1 App heading that describes the issue i was having with a 'Connecting, Discovering, Reading' loop that causes the app/phone to fail to connect to the C1. I followed the directions, turning off bluetooth a few times, and it connected right away. The app is super impressive with a large variety of configuration options, but the light worked without even having my phone connected so I suppose If you were not interested in configuring you could just plug and play. Very impressed, highly recommend this company and the C1 and R1 lights.

I've yet to try the C1 + R1 light combo as my drivetrain is on back order, but I'm a long time user of Igaro's D1 which has lasted exceptionally well and is still a great bit of kit. I'm really looking forward to taking the C1 + R1 for a spin!

Top of the line light, somewhat confusing setup

The actual hardware is fantastic – by far one of the most configurable, powerful lights I've used, with all sorts of smart features that are actually useful. Maybe even better is the fact that, while I take comfort that I can reconfigure it to my liking if my needs change, the default settings out the box are excellent and will work for ~90% of people.

The only pain point really was the setup. The wiring is pretty DIY: while soldering isn't strictly necessary, get ready to get creative. The wiring is also a little flimsy looking and has me a bit worried about longevity. (The benefit is that it's completly standard plugs, so you can easily replace wires.) Weather sealed plugs or some sort of cover would let me sleep better at night.
Finally, because of the ambient light sensor, when you try to test the light in a bright area, you'll never see the light turn on, making you think you got the wiring wrong. This happened with my local shop: they didn't understand the light, gave up and just told me good luck. Some clearer/more detailed documentation would go a looong way.

Thank you for taking time to write a review, we and other cyclists appreciate real-world feedback.

With regards to wiring we have to cater for varying fork length, handlebar position, slack and dynamo type and this is why the cables are variable length to be cut on-site. We agree it's DIY but this way the solution it tidy and integrated to fit the bike. Has the bike shop installed the provided heat-shrink over the wiring?

The connectors are fine to get wet but the C1's rain cover will keep them dry in most scenarios. The most important factor and the reason why we don't use XT30 connectors (and similar) is so often riders (including us) forget to disconnect the dynamo when dropping the wheel for packing into a bike box. The weight then tears the wire out of the light destroying it. The other scenario is the wire going down to the dynamo hub somehow snags by way of a crash. The connectors we've used don't require a great deal of pull to disconnect, enough to keep them in place and not enough to cause any damage. Longevity you need not worry about, not only is the rear PCB replaceable and all the leads available, but we haven't had any failures in over two years of C1 availability. They're working well!

Sorry to hear about the bike shop install. It sounds like they didn't read the online manual which covers the light sensor, why spinning the wheel in a stand doesn't work, and how the App gives status. For these reasons installing a C1 and becoming accustomed to its configuration will take longer than another dynamo light. The bike shop may not have realised more time would be required then what they'd charged for.

We're unsure how we can improve the online manual but as always suggestions on how we can are much appreciated.

Thank you again and may you have many decades of Igaro C1 service.

IGARO S1 Pro - in need for some improvements to make it even better

I installed the IGARO S1 Pro a couple of weeks ago. While it is overall a great piece of kit, it an important weaknesses - the connector port: Too weak in its design it does not well support the USB-C and power leads and in my view it also does violate the claimed IP69 rating. This area needs redesign. I also feel that the manual could be clearer on the explanation of the various LED lighting codes...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

In countenance, the S1 can be submerged under several metres for several hours, which meets the IP69 definition. No USB port is water-proof though - this is explained in several places including the FAQ and manual pages. Embedding the ports inside the body gives excellent protection from the elements. No other USB power converter has better protection.

Should the USB-C ports and power connectors be fragile there would be failures. At the beginning there was an assembly based issue but it was corrected (circa three years ago now). As with any product mechanical sympathy should be observed, such as not wrapping USB leads tight but allowing for handlebar rotation. This is covered on the manual page.

We are completely confident in the S1's design. The choices made during development is what allows us to offer a 5 year warranty, which (in addition to the weather protection) you'll find no other USB power converter offers.

The LED patterns being tricky to explain and understand we appreciate. While LED's are simple they can't convey much information, which is the trade-off and exasperated with a smarter product like the S1 . With the C1 we have a full App screen so it's much easier to tell the user what's going on.

Thanks for choosing Igaro. We wish you many years of dynamo hub based USB charging.

Everything good

Shipment to Austria worked well. Had no chance to test the C1 extensively but so far everything is working.

Not recommended – noisy and no replacement

The Igaro S1 produces a clearly audible noise from around 15 km/h, like a buzzing, with pitch increasing as speed increases.
The noise is sometimes almost continuous, sometimes intermittent during a ride.
An audio sample at 23-25 km/h is available on soundcloud (igaro-s1-noise).

Igaro initially acknowledged that internal components can vibrate and shared a manufacturer explanation.
When I asked for a replacement, they later stated that the noise was normal for all their products due to over-voltage protection.
This contradicts my experience with a silent Igaro D2 on the same bike and setup.
Igaro ultimately refused to replace the unit, stating that this is normal operation.

Our first explanation was the correct one, not the second over-voltage protection. The Igaro D2 doesn't have the variable tuning mechanism featured in the Igaro S1/C1 and which is responsible for +25% power extraction over the Igaro D2 while offering a 25yr+ lifespan. We're unable to counteract the physics which is this implementation can under select conditions (temperature, frequency, voltage, charge rate) admit a minor audible whine/buzz. We're not going to entertain swapping out a fully functional Igaro S1 for another fully functional Igaro S1 as it's not rational when the outcome will be identical behaviour. If you're willing to accept lower performance the Igaro D2 is an option as is one of the many of our competitors products, none of which come close to the performance of the Igaro S1/C1. Absolute performance and longevity are key aims with our high-end products, but frequently with electrical components/implementation there are trade-offs.

Igaro S1 Pro works Well.

My new S1 Pro arrived promptly and looks like it works really well. I previously had another brand of dynamo USB charger which did not usefully charge my iPhone or a generic power bank, at my 15kmh avg touring speed with a SP PD8 dynamo hub.
The Igaro S1 put 10% into my iPhone 16 pro in 1 hour at 15kmh avg, and 15% in 1 hour at 25kmh avg. That looks good. It’ll be interesting to see how things go on an extended bike packing trip with a number of devices to keep charged. I feel much better equipped to be able to keep up with power for my iPhone, GPS, head torch, rear light and head phones now.
Thanks Igaro.

Fantastic device

Used the Igaro S1 on a 20 day off-road adventure in remote terrain. Its absolutely fantastic. It functioned perfectly in all conditions (cold, heat, heavy rain) and survived a few crashes with no issue. I could charge my Garmin Edge, Garmin inReach or a 120000 mAh power bank from the unit at the same time as providing power to my Exposure Revo light. Amazing, highly recommended.

The D2 is an excellent product

The D2 is an excellent product. Works as it should. Very solid.

Fast delivery. On the negative side: had to pay extra money for customs. That has been a bit easier before Brexit

Fast shipment, Great Products

Fast shipment. Great products. Good and clear communication. I bought two D1's in the past. The first one was the earliest D1 version. It worked great. Then I bought the updated D1. I still have them. But now I bought the D2 and S1. I installed the S1 easily. I have yet to use the D2, but plan to install it on my secondary bike. Thank you to Team Igaro!

Manual exclusion for USB water ingress is unreasonable given the product’s marketing and intended use.

The unit failed due to water ingress despite being used exclusively with the official 3D-printed under-stem case, as marketed and instructed by the manufacturer. My bike is fitted with full-length mudguards and stored under cover 99% of the time when not in use.

I have contacted Igaro, who has denied the warranty claim, citing a manual exclusion for USB water ingress. However, I believe this exclusion is unreasonable given the product’s marketing and intended use.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. I believe this product does not meet these criteria.

The manual clearly states water must not enter the USB ports when the device is powered. It did, and both USB ports were destroyed by electrolysis (corrosion). We can't say how water entered the USB ports when powered only that it did. We go further than any other company to educate our users on this as it's impossible to waterproof USB ports and to prevent this occurring.

Our 5 year warranty specifically states damage to USB ports is not covered. We're not obliged to insure our devices against mishap, misuse or lack of reasonable care as doing so will invoke costs which will raise prices for everyone else.
