TOTAL DISASTER – 2h Wait, Filthy Van & Missing Belongings! AVOID!

🚩We had a terrible experience regarding the return of our belongings. We returned our camper to the Lisbon depot on Monday and realized shortly after that we left 3 jackets and a hair curler in a specific compartment. We are 100% certain they were in the van.

Since Monday, we have called the hotline every single day and provided the exact location of the items. Despite our precise instructions, the staff is either too lazy to look or intentionally withholding our property. We keep getting the same 'no update' excuses while our expensive items are still missing.

It is unacceptable that a professional rental company like Indie Campers is unable to check a vehicle within 4 days. If our items are not found immediately, we will have to assume they were stolen by the staff and will file a formal police report‼️

Avoid this place if you value your belongings and expect decent customer service!
Our trip also started with a massive disappointment at the Lisbon depot. We were forced to wait for over 2 hours just to get our van, even though we arrived exactly at our scheduled time. Total lack of organization and zero respect for the customers' time.
When we finally got the van, the condition was shocking:
- The kitchen set was absolutely filthy. The pan had no coating left and was completely scratched – it was literally dangerous to cook with.

- There was no duvet cover provided for the bedding. Sleeping like that is just gross.

- The water tank was already more than half empty at pick-up. We had to waste our first hour finding a station to fill it up.

This company charges professional prices but provides sub-standard, dirty, and poorly maintained equipment. Save yourself the frustration and the health risk—book with a company that actually cleans and prepares their vehicles!

Indie Campers is a great company to rent from. Outstanding customer service, easy pick up/drop off, and the vans are always clean and in good condition. We've rented from them in several countries now and will continue to do so.

Broken van, broken promises, and a debt collector for a debt that doesn't exist

Hired a campervan from Indie Campers Canada in October 2025. The van had multiple issues from day one — a bathroom door that came off its hinges, a window duct taped to the interior, non-functioning solar panel, incomplete kitchen kit we'd paid extra for, and more. All reported to their support team in real time and acknowledged in writing.
Indie Campers promised a refund in writing. It never arrived. I raised a chargeback with my bank, which was successful.
Indie Campers then passed my details to a debt collection agency (Oriel Collections) pursuing a debt that their own customer service team had confirmed doesn't exist. I've had to file complaints with the FCA and Financial Ombudsman as a result.
Months later the refund is still outstanding despite repeated written confirmation it would be paid. Avoid if you're expecting a company that takes responsibility when things go wrong.

EDIT: That reply is not on, Indie Campers have said they have sent the debt collection in error. This has not been resolved.
