nice nice nice
An overal very positive experience, with some room for improvement
Positives:
The truck handled well and was functional for the 2100-mile trip. I feel like it was a good value and would probably do it again.
Dean was friendly, knowledgeable and fairly thorough when he met me to check out the camper in Syracuse, Indiana.
Check-in at Las Vegas was great. Everyone was super helpful and handled it well. Shout outs to Tiffany, Jaylen, and Oscar who were very attentive to my questions and concerns.
Customer service by chat and email was pretty responsive, considering it was not possible to call them.
Negatives:
The most frustrating part of the experience was figuring out where to pick up the vehicle. This was a one-way rental from the factory in or near Nappanee, Indiana, to a rental station in Las Vegas. I rented through Imoova, which told me to pick up the vehicle at a location in Syracuse, Indiana. However the Indie Campers portal showed the pickup location in Elkhart, which was easier to get to by train. After confirming the Elkhart location with Indie chat/email cstomer service, someone called me the day before pickup to tell me that the pickup location was indeed in Syracuse. I didn't really trust anyone from Indie Campers at this point, so I scheduled an Uber to drive me to both the Elkhart and the Syracuse locations. Syracuse turned out to be the correct pickup location.
The Adventure Truck model I was assigned was a different model from the original description and the instructional video. Both the truck and the camper were different. I received a Ford Ranger, whereas the video showed a Toyota Tacoma. Also the camper shell is an Up Country XS, whereas the video showed a Lance. They both do the same thing, but the instructional video for things like setting up the table, etc was pretty much useless. Also my camper had much less storage than the one in the camper did. I mostly had to use the back seat of the cab for storage.
I don't know if Dean was aware of this but the camper door cannot close when the accordion stairs are attached without causing damage. I contacted support regarding this and sent a demo video showing the issue. I didn't use the stairs and instead got a step stool which cost me about $15 USD. It was still a bit too low but it worked well enough.
I was not able to figure out the ideal temperature of the refrigerator from the scale of 1 to 8 or whatever. I tried a few settings and they all seemed to freeze the contents. Normally I wouldn't really care that some things are colder than they should be, but I had some medication in there and I think the temperature was lower than recommended.
I booked this one-way rental through Imoova.com, a booking agent for Indie Campers, which advertised it as including a $400 fuel reimbursement, for which I submitted receipts. However Indie seems to have no actual system for reimbursing me. One customer service rep said I should take it up with Imoova, who in turn said I should take it up with Indie, which seems more reasonable. The check-in staff at the drop-off location were understanding and professional and worked diligently to solve my problem. They opened a support ticket and I have been told it would take about a month to receive my reimbursement. But really, if a fuel reimbursement is advertised, there probably should be some kind of system to accommodate it, rather than having to open an ad-hoc help desk ticket.
Fuel economy was lower than I had hoped. I averaged 13 miles per gallon going at or below the speed limit, only a few miles per gallon better than the much larger 6-person Forest River RV we rented a couple of years ago. A tank of gas lasted about 250 miles before needing to fill up again.
Finally, it would be much easier to have a human to talk to regarding problems, rather than having to use the online chat and/or email to ask for help.
I hope this was constructive. Overall the experience was positive and I would do it again.
Good To go with
easy to book
Amazing overall experience!!!
I booked a Mobile home and all was fine…
I booked a Mobile home and all was fine and I was happy, but now I am forced to give a review and I don't even know what the review is for and I cannot exit the page without completing this. That is super annoying.
We had an excellent experience with…Bunk Campers!
We had an excellent experience with Bunk Campers Edinburgh. Claire and John (I think I’ve got the names right!) were exceptionally thorough and helpful upon collection and return! We would recommend to anyone, and will be returning, for a third time, next year!
great and succesful
Terrible customer service: followed their staff’s instructions and ended up paying for their mistake
Very disappointing experience with Indie Campers and extremely poor customer support.
When picking up the camper van in Berlin, the employee who handled the handover told me I needed snow chains for my trip. When I asked for them, he explained they had none available for the vehicle and explicitly instructed me to buy them myself and send the receipt later to be reimbursed. He also told me he would leave a note in the reservation about this.
At the same pickup, the same employee noticed I had not booked gas tanks and added them directly on site, charging me immediately. Naturally, this gave me the impression that if snow chains needed to be formally added to the reservation, the employee would have done so in the same way.
Following their instructions, I purchased the snow chains before traveling into mountain areas. Before returning the van, I contacted customer support with the receipt, only to be told reimbursement would be refused because snow chains were not included in the original booking.
When returning the van in Paris, the local manager acknowledged the situation and told me he would speak with the supervisor of the Berlin agent to help resolve the issue. I left the chains in the van, expecting the situation to be handled internally.
After multiple emails, customer support continued refusing reimbursement, simply repeating company policy, despite the fact that I was following direct instructions from their own employee. Even worse, nobody ever contacted me again regarding the snow chains I left in the vehicle, meaning I paid for chains that were never reimbursed and that I no longer even possess.
This was my first camper van trip and I relied on the guidance provided by their staff. A serious company should take responsibility for the instructions given by its employees instead of hiding behind internal policies after the fact.
Extremely disappointing handling of a very straightforward situation.

The booking experience was easy but...
The booking experience was easy and even held my details in multiple back and forth steps. As a first time traveller with a campervan , i would need more information and directions towards the electricity and generators, as well as information about where to empty tanks and add AdBlue. Unhappy about a change of pick-up location after completing the booking ( which is 20min from the original site stated and was originally walking distance from the airport ). This makes us take a taxi to and from the airport, plus forcing us for an earlier drop-off.
Avoid!
Avoid!! Van had issues that kept arising as our trip went on. Starting small and getting worse. We wasn't provided with all the necessary parts needed to drop the toilet tanks and only found out when we went to use it. No point trying to contact anyone the office phone number didn't work. The premium insurance package is a waste of time too. A small scuff was found on our van after drop off that wasn't caused by us and I got an unexpected charge for $250 out of nowhere after the employee signed off the van on drop off. How is a scuff not covered when we paid that much extra for a higher insurance??
great experience but also trustpilot…
great experience but also trustpilot wouldn't let me continue without rating
loved the one way
