Stay away!

System Mechanic is supposed to protect your system, and in the very old days it did a passable job. But now it does precious little that Windows does not already do, and on top of that, IOLO runs a scam where they tack on "free" Livetech services that you did not order and which then automatically converts to a paid service after a month, making the overall cost for what is basically a fairly useless product quite expensive.

Avoid at all costs

At the time of writing this, I have an open PayPal dispute with Iolo, as they have charged me for an automatic renewal fee, despite the fact that I cancelled the subscription a year ago and received confirmation from them of the cancellation. They have done this to me three years in a row. Instead of refunding my money, they emailed me offering me a half-price deal. I am disgusted with their attitude and their ongoing dishonesty. Avoid at all costs.

I sadly purchased their System Mechanic…

I sadly purchased their System Mechanic software, which in itself seemed to work ok. However, I soon started to be inundated with sales emails from the company, often over 12 identical emails at the same time! These were received every few days, which meant I had to delete each one in the pack. Very unprofessional company, who believe that inundating existing companies with multiple email offers will impress. It doesn't and just shows a company to be cheap and disrespectful.
Also, every day or so, we got a pop-up on our desktops pushing their VPN service. Next to the delete button, you can click the option of requesting not to show the offer again....it doesn't work; they still continue to bombard you with their spam, trying to persuade you to purchase their VPN service. I have now deleted their software and would never buy again!!

Renewed Early Without Authorization and Charged for Software I Did Not Order

After having used Iolo System Mechanic for many years, paying annually, I was recently billed for a renewal I did not authorize and for the entire suite rather than the single program I had been using. The charge was made more than a month before my previous subscription ended. I called them to cancel and they made a slightly better offer, but I asked them to cancel anyway. They promised to do so, but the pending credit card charge became permanent. I called again and this time, they put me on hold while they claimed to have issued a refund. When I checked my credit account, there was no indication the charge had been reversed. Iolo sent an e-mail stating they cancelled the charge, but that it may not show up on my card for one to two billing cycles. I would never do business with them again.

Follow Up: In fairness to Iolo, the refund was processed and the charge removed several days later. I appreciate that but would still not do business with them.

Beware of hidden charges they don't tell you about

I've used System Mechanic for 10+ years. The software is ok, but beware of the "live tech support" scam they bundle in with your software: when you renew your annual software subscription for a one time cost, they'll bundle in the live support option at a ridiculous cost of $19.95/month without calling it out, even if you don't ask for it. They then wait a month or two to bill you for it. This way, they don't have to refund the cost when you discover this new charge on your credit card. They'll say since you've had the live tech support for a month already, they can't refund it now. Yes, they'll refund the future monthly costs going forward, but not the initial charge. I'm tired of dealing with these guys sneaking extra charges on top of my subscription, then not refunding when I see the charge. I will be moving on from these guys when my software subscription expires.

Sad experience

Have been using happily for years Iolo System Mechanic with automatic renewal. Have now been charged for three monthly subscriptions for Technical Service I was not aware of. Have requested a refund as I had no idea payments were taken until too late. Full refund refused by Iolo. Have now reported issue to FTC. They have now lost a long term customer.

Activation can only be done by phone to…

Activation can only be done by phone to an agent, When you start to talk to her about activation she try's to sell upgrades or other software. Then she wants to attach to your computor to look at the software you have on it, so she can sell you something you probably dont need. I have talked to my bank and cancelled the soft ware. and the payment. Never did activate the software, SYSTEM MECHANICS. High pressure selling turns me off.

And the saga continues.....Thought I…

And the saga continues.....Thought I was finished with these clowns, but I was wrong. They blocked me from accessing my System Mechanic account, so I was unable to cancel automatic payments for my subscription. All this, and it only cost me $300. Finally blocked my payment method, so hopefully that will end my annual $19.95 payment. But that remains to be seen. I have reported their Tech Support people to the FBI for hacking my computers, and tearing my entire financial life to shreds. Trust me, you don't want to deal with them. Go somewhere else for your security software. And whatever you do, NEVER let even security software tech support remote into your computer. Have them walk you through whatever needs to be done via telephone. That's the only way you can be sure they won't put a back door into your system, so they can rip you off. HARD LESSON LEARNED.

System Mechanic Ultimate

Hello
The iolo technical department downloaded System Mechanic Ultimate on January 3, 2021 onto my Windows 10 version 1909 x64 computer. However Privacy Guardian does not open at all. I have written to iolo to ask why and I am told that there will be a "fix" soon. A month has passed and I have heard NOTHING from them. I have no idea what version I have downloaded as the product information key does nothing.
I am not too sure how much longer I have to wait for this "fix" as iolo do not reply to me.
