Formal Complaint regarding Rental Agreement #FLR9197– Unacceptable Customer Service & Unfair Treatment

Dear Customer Support Team,
I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding my recent rental experience with your company in Italy (Rental Agreement: FLR9197).

I originally rented a vehicle at your Florence Airport branch for 23 June - 25 June 2026 period, paying a total of $400, with plans to return it in Rome.

Unfortunately, during my trip, the vehicle was broken into and the window was smashed. This was an extremely distressing situation, and I immediately drove to your Pisa Airport branch to return the damaged vehicle and request a replacement.

I requested an automatic transmission vehicle as a replacement, but the conduct of the staff at the Pisa branch was completely unacceptable. The representative was extremely unhelpful, unfriendly, and displayed a total lack of empathy regarding my situation. I was bluntly told that there were "no options available" and that my only choice was to cancel the contract for a meager refund of only $112—which is completely unfair given the original $400 rental fee and the circumstances.

Instead of offering a solution or helping me contact your network, the Pisa staff shirked all responsibility and told me to call the Florence branch myself. Because your staff left me stranded with no alternative vehicle, I was forced to rent a car from a competitor immediately at a much higher walk-in rate, causing me significant unexpected financial loss and extreme inconvenience.

As a customer facing an emergency, I expected professional assistance and support from your company, not to be dismissed and penalized financially.
To resolve this matter, I demand:

1. A full review of this incident and an explanation for the poor conduct of the Pisa Airport staff.
2. A fair compensation and a proper recalculation of the refund, as the $112 offered is entirely inadequate given that your company failed to provide the rental service I paid for.

I expect a prompt response and a swift resolution to this matter. If this issue is not addressed satisfactorily, I will escalate this complaint to the European Car Rental Conciliation Service (ECRCS) and relevant consumer protection authorities.

Checkout and checkin were very efficient and easy. We had checked in online in advance with Locauto Smart Checkin, so we could go straight to the car. Our car had 54000 km on the clock so probably well past due for replacement. The seats were dirty with what looked like sunscreen droplets onto the fabric of both front seats along with a lot of dust. There were 18 identifiable bumps, bangs and scratches when we collected the car. Mechanically fine but this year (2026) overall not up to previous standard we have had from Locauto/Alamo

Oil light came on the Audi hire car on our way back from Tuscany to Pisa airport. When asked why this had not been checked we were told its not done routinely on big cars?!? Very stressful when stuck in traffic with a flight to catch. Otherwise good service and nice car.

Everything went smoothly and as planned. Stuff was kind and helpful, we have got also an upgraded car.

Paperwork was kept to an absolute minimum, and both pickup and drop-off were lightning-fast. The friendly and professional staff deserve a huge plus—they were more than happy to answer all questions.
