I order a set of ladder 2 weeks in advance cost me 71 pounds, the ladder never turned up.
Made me look like a mug, I had to use the customers ladder.
Lost me 3 days of work.
I will never be ordering from this company again.

Absolutely abysmal service. It would be easier and after the amount of my time they have wasted, cheaper, to have boufht the tool I needed and arranged transport from one end of the country to the other. I would rather poke a rusty nail in my eyes than use this company again.

Hired a chipper, didn't turn up. Quick to take your money, apparently will take a few days to return it. Certainly will not be using them again. Poor communication throughout

I wanted to hire but the website did not make clear VAT was to be added & also right at check out after entering all my details they added damage waiver for £16.00. + VAT. Not good enough. Be transparent about charges BEFORE checkout

Rented a dehumidifier which never turned up. Still waiting for my refund a week later so have to go through my credit card company now to get refunded.
Definition of a scam company,.

There are an intermediary and do not have the equipment on site. I booked a stump grinder for two days couldn't return the grinder to a store so had to pay for an extra day and wait for it to be collected by the real tool hire company. Within the first minutes of using the grinder I clipped a car tyre as I tried to grind away a rootball. I immediately stopped to check the machine and noticed there was a tooth missing from the wheel. I couldn't use the machine after this. The tooth is a consumable part that gets replaced when it is worn down and cost in the region of £11. Mammoth Hire retained my full £200 deposit. Avoid at all costs and go directly to a genuine tool hire company.

Absolutely atrocious service. Placed an order on Friday for the same day collection of the tool needed. Paid £17 extra to do so, after all the add ons the bill came up to nearly £200 for a tool that allegedly cost £70 to hire. Got an email confirming order with aline ‘non refundable’ at the bottom of it. They never confirmed the address where the order was meant to be collected from, they never been in touch to say it can be collected. Friday went by and after 4 o’clock (they allegedly close at 5), I requested a full refund as it was clear it wasn’t happening. But how to request a refund when a company does not have a phone number, their live chat is run by a bot and they still have not responded to my email asking for Money back until Monday evening?
I only now looked at trust pilot and google reviews and no wonder everyone is messaging here, as they cannot get through anywhere else to get their money back. The company is a scam and a waste of time - making you believe you will complete the jobs you had planned in time, where they have no intensions of even letting you hire the tools.
AVOID AT ALL COST

Cowboy company DO NOT USE EVER!!
HORRENDOUS hidden fees, on first views there stuff for hire looks reasonable priced.. then you get to the nit and gritties. 500 deposit On top of your hire. "Free delivery" extra £50, insurance, waiver fees, VAT not included.. WAY OVER 3 times the price you see at the very start..
NEVER EVER EVER USE THESE JOKERS. THEY ARE GOING OUT OF BUSINESS FOR A REASON!

Mammoth or National Tool Hire retained my deposit of £500 for over 6 weeks AFTER return of the hire! Contact is by online chat only and is sporadic at best.
When they eventually responded to me this was repeatedly claimed return of deposit was 21 WORKING days as in their T&Cs and was because suppliers often did not invoice them for some time and they needed to ensure there were no damages/charges etc. Which I get, however the supplier (MKM in Perth, who were excellent and ill go directly to them next time) told me they had invoiced Mammoth the day after the return.
The inefficiency of Mammoth Hire should not be a reason to retain a deposit for such a long time. And electronic communications has its place but when there is a problem there needs to be a method of speaking to customer service or at very least improve your online chat timescales

This is a very unusual experience.
I placed an order for tool hire on their website and paid. I then received no confirmation after I paid.
I tried to contact them but the only contact is a so-called 'Livechat' which is just a bot and so AI [was there ever such a misnamed technology?] just sent me round in circles. as it kept asking for an order number which I did not have as I had no email confirmation!
Finally I got connected to a person by entering in the ‘Livechat’ "but i have no order number" [gold star for AI]
They identified the order and said they would not honour the contract unless I provided ID documents which I do not have! I pointed out you can't create a contract [they took my money] and then change the terms. The 'Livechat' then went silent. I then received an email with no order number saying "Thank you for placing your order with us.
"Before we can begin to work on your order, we would require some online ID verification from you. Please follow these instructions" with a link at the bottom to 'raise a ticket'. The link is broken, so once again I am plunged back into internet darkness - no contact details, no response yet they have my money. I was then referred in the Livechat to the 'Terms and Conditions' page of their website which refer to providing satisfactory ID - but this was not part of the online contracting process before I paid: extraordinary! This back and forth online took me an hour before finally they agreed to give me a refund. I finally got an email from 'Denise' [gold star for Denise] with full details in case this promise in a LIvechat proved to be valueless. Just as a footnote, do not be seduced by their prices as the hire cost more than doubled once they added on, like RyanAir, various non-negotiable extras. I do not recommend this company as, if there is a hitch, it is a nightmare trying to sort it out. Nul points for customer service.
Update - I did receive a refund, but with £10.57 deducted as I had "cancelled the reservation". I complained about this and was told that as I had elected to take out cancellation insurance I had agreed to pay £10.57 if I cancelled. Unbelievable! After another round of emails they have agreed to refund the full amount. So, in fairness to Mammoth, I did get a full refund but they made it as difficult as it could possibly be and I would not have succeeded if I had been less persistent. This is not how online ordering should be, nor how customer care should be conducted.

Absolutely ridiculous company to deal with. Not interested in customer care and dealing with errors. Do not use them. I've reached out multiple times with no feedback and no word on my deposit. Already messaged their email they post in their replies too.

No deposit refund after several promises. It's been over 60 days. They don't allow you to speak to anyone in accounts or management. My guess is they're going out of business and have got their heads in the sand.
Money claim will be processed online today.

Absolutely terrible service from Mammoth Tool Hire.
They supplied a faulty digger and a roller that was not what we ordered — it was far too large for the intended job and completely unsuitable for the site. This immediately caused delays.
We were told an engineer would attend within the hour to repair the digger — no one turned up. We were then promised an 8am engineer the following morning — again, no one showed. I am still waiting.
As a result, we have now lost two full days of site work, costing us both time and money. Communication has been just as frustrating — it’s almost impossible to get hold of anyone unless you sit on web chat or stay on hold for over an hour.
Save yourself the stress, time and money — do not hire from this company.

Having hired and returned a mini digger earlier this year with no damages, we have been waiting for the return of our £500 deposit minus fuel used, after many attempts and promises via live chat and e-mail (Dean Conroy, Manager) we have still nor recieved our deposit this is well beyond the 21 working days advised about on llive chat. Item returned 8th Jan 2026.

Terrible, incompetent service DO NOT USE THEM
Hired a log splitter and paid for priority service. Contacted them the day before delivery and was told that delivery would be between 800-1330. They didn’t turn up!!! At 1308 I got an email referencing my order saying my “first fix nail gun” was not available…I’d ordered a log splitter. No contact number on the website….huge red flag for incompetent service. Online chat has not answered my requests for money back. Please do not use, they don’t turn up and do not answer requests for your money back…it’s all a con
Took 1 hour 15 mins to get a response on Live Chat. Impossible to contact. Let see if they actually credit me back. Absolutely avoid.

I was charged a £30 change of booking fee for a floor sander hire that ultimately did not go ahead. While the hire cost was refunded, the company has refused to refund this fee, despite no service being provided.
Having booked days off work for this, it’s beyond disappointing and frustrating. My booking fee being refunded should surely been seen as the minimum compensation for having days wasted.
Customer service repeatedly relied on “company policy” rather than addressing the fact that the hire never took place. Charging and retaining a fee for a service not received is unreasonable and, in my view, not consistent with consumer rights.
A disappointing experience and poor handling of a straightforward refund.

Ordered a ladder to be delivered today but after no communication by 1530 when I had paid for express delivery by 1300, I contacted them to be told it wouldn’t be coming. Not a dependable business model.
