Complete con merchants. Avoid at all cost. Pressurise sale with promises to refund if not successful then lie about withheld info and close your file keeping your money! They should be prosecuted.
Reported to Trading Standards (they are not a member of the Credit Services Association) and Information Commissioner as they refused to provide the information held between myself and their staff..
Their standard contract which was expressly varied to get a payment was varied and the terms not recorded in their contract which even has a non disclosure clause (I wonder why?) I am contacting the Financial Conduct Authority to see if this is an unfair contract term for consumers.
I have all emails and contemporaneous notes of my calls (the one varying the contract by the salesman to get the payment was witnessed and confirmed in writing)

Our team do not employ pressure sales tactics; we advise on the cost of recovery and outline the service provided. Every person who enquires with McVicar are welcome to ask more questions if they need clarification.
We always work every case to the best of our ability with the information provided at the outset. Due to data protection reasons, any information we acquire about a debtor such as a new address or telephone number, we cannot pass onto a client as this would be a breach of data privacy for which we could be prosecuted.
We do not require an FCA licence to undertake recovery of the debts we manage. An FCA license is required to chase consumer debts such as payday loans and credit cards, none of which we currently deal with.
We refute the claims made and are proud to operate with transparency, integrity and professionalism.
AVOID AVOID AVOID !! SCAMMERS !!
Don’t bother going to these people. They promise you a quick solution with Agents who will trace and track the debtor and get you your money back. What a load of rubbish. They might make a few phone calls if you give them the debtors number. Then NOTHING.. They’re only after what money they can make out of it. They don’t answer emails, are condescending and are worse than the debtor you are chasing for money.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS 👿

Despite them saying they would look into my case, following this review, no-one has bothered to contact me. They don’t like criticism and are very unprofessional. Please do not trust them to recover any money for you 👿

Avoid this company, they don't keep you updated on the process, receiving your money and not even letting you know. They have collected money for me and I have not seen a £ yet. Furthermore, I had to pay them to start this process. Very disappointed. Not professional.

Our upfront payment product enables us to set the case up on the system and begin the debt recovery process. As an agency our activity sustains overheads when chasing a debt. It is in ours and our clients best interest to seek to resolve debts in full.

you have asked me to respond to you so you can so call investigate , this has been going on since August last year , you phoned me in the beginning asking to take my case on , from the very start i had to case your company for information about my case , i was the one that had to phone you , when i dif i was assured everytime things would change, then nothing, so more calls from me to you , then i did receive a call from your company explaining there had been staff changes and the person i was speaking to told me he was very experienced and would be taking my case on , finally we were going to get somewhere, ABSOLUTELY NOT , then i had a phone call from maggie reassuring me she would be looking into this finally I thought finally after all these months we would get some where , ABSOLUTELY NOT, back to square one, no contact from your company so more casing your company from myself, months and months of me casing you , i was assured from the person that phoned me to ask for my business that you could deal with this but after nearly 8 MONTHS of me having to chase your company you tell me that your not a high court writt enforcement company when you should have told me from the start thats what would be needed , so investigate as much as you want , but to be honest if you apply the same effort you have to my case , you wouldn't get far , you have taken my money for a service you promised but couldn't deliver
