MetLife Customer Disservice

My actual rating would be -10. I've had a $100k MetLife life insurance UL policy since 1991. Over time I borrowed money from the cash value and made payments from my checking account. About 1 year ago they stopped taking my payments without explanation. I called several times and wrote to them. No response. Then I suggested to them in a final letter that I would be contacting the Ohio Dept of Insurance. Which I did and still am. Then I received a bill for around $250 due in 2 months. I realized they were going to charge me quarterly. So I started to pay them quarterly the amounts they requested. Then in March they sent me a bill for over $4,000 to keep the policy in force. The policy had an equivalent amount of cash value. I tried to contact them several times and could not get a useful explanation. Finally I decided to just send them $300 because they couldn't tell me a minimum amount to keep the policy going. Meanwhile, I also tried to contact the agent they claimed was their rep in my area of Ohio. I called him several time and received no response from the agent after sending information to him and talking to his secretary. About 1 week prior to the deadline they established for keeping my policy in force I reached a customer service person that could barely talk English but stated they policy would continue to be in force. I have a witness to this conversation. The next thing I know I receive another bill shortly after that conversation requesting $299 to keep my policy in force and that the policy lapsed.
I sent the money. They sent me a reinstatement form to sign. I signed it and sent it back. They sent a confirmation that the policy was reinstated. In addition I requested an illustration for the policy. They emailed it along with a request for $599 due immediately. Yesterday I received 3 letters. 1) My $300 payment was reversed July 5. That check was cashed by MetLife in mid June. 2) They received my payment and reinstated my policy July 9. 3) They sent me a Notice of Required Payment for $24,316.53 Due July 27 to retain coverage. Anyone interested in a class action?

DO NOT ever purchase a Long Term…

DO NOT ever purchase a Long Term Policy! They have denied my 91 year old step father who is in need of a private nurse. You pay $150,000 into a policy that value is now $250,000 and he has to be on his death bed to get any money from Met Life. Absolutely a complete rip off. He would have been better if he just had put those monthly payments into a savings accout for the last 30 years.

The most untrustworthy

This is the most untrustworthy, scandalous company in existence. I was initially offered a job through this tyrant that goes by the name MetLife. They promised me a job as a Salesman helping families with their life insurance needs. I accepted the offer, began paying for the necessary schooling, paid for my training materials, studied countless hours and even paid to take the state license exam. After passing the exam, and investing over $500 in materials MetLife said they were no longer hiring. This company just shuffled me around, had me neglect my other job, show up on off hours from my other job to attend phone conferences… this company has no heart, no soul, and no morals. I am grateful I learned how sick and corrupted this organization is prior to be hired. Thanks MetLife for using my bank account, blood sweat and tears to bolster your 3rd party test prep companies IPO. You all should be Asher of yourselves.

Wasn’t able to take my full leave

Wasn’t able to take my full leave. I asked for an extension, because I decided that I wanted to take all of it. I still have yet to hear back from them with their decision. My manager told me that I would have to come back to work, because my original end date has passed and have not received anything about my extension. It’s going on a month and still nothing. What a joke.

Horrendous Company To Attempt To Deal With

This company is absolutely impossible to communicate with and I have now spent hours of my life attempting to cancel my policy. It is still not cancelled. It's absolutely shocking that such an appalling lack of customer service even exists in this industry.

It’s unbelievable how poorly this…

It’s unbelievable how poorly this company handles its pensioners. They have sent me numerous letters stating they have NOT heard from me about my election options for an old pension I have from 38 years ago. They sent a letter to my wife (my beneficiary) at our home address telling her that they CANNOT find me. We have called them and have even faxed them our election documents stating we want the lump sum. Today, I got another certified letter threatening to send my lump sum to the state of California as unclaimed property. This is month number 6 after I was eligible for the money when I turned 65 in December.

Metlife took over Mother's Military…

Metlife took over Mother's Military Dental plan. Awful! They will do anything to not pay the claim. Continuosly ask for same information (which we have fax confirmations we provided) and denying until provided. Dentist where she had surgery gave up on trying to help and said they are awful to deal with. Its a shame how they treat elderly military dependents.

Metlife Is a Scam!

I signed me and my spouse up for Metlife Hospital Indemnity Insurance through my employer when we decided to have a baby. A hospital stay for childbirth was clearly covered in the plan, so I figured I'd come out ahead. Long story short: my baby is 6 months old and they still haven't paid.

Metlife's claims and customer service departments are useless by design so that they can avoid payouts. They will play dumb on purpose and use every dirty trick hoping that you give up before getting paid.

My initial claim was denied due to an error in their system, one that is still not fixed. This issue was discovered months ago, and I've been assured multiple times that it would be fixed. They even had the gall to say I needed to work it out with my employer/prove to them that their date was wrong (I did both months ago). Guess their record keeping isn't all that good for an insurance company!

Their callcenter people use politeness to mislead and delay you. Do not trust a word they say about what to do or how long things will take! These people are combination mouthpieces and meatshields! I've been assured multiple times that my issues would be handled within 6 weeks with no further input from me. But I've had to hound them through each tiny step.

The actual claims department refuses to communicate through anything but snail mail. They do not take calls and they do not respond to emails (except automated replies). The only thing they've responded to is my (2nd) claim, asking for more documentation. I've provided that info several times through their online portal and to an email they specified, and they apparently aren't checking their inbox because they keep claiming that I haven't responded!

At this point, I'm considering my legal options. If anyone wants to start a class action, I'm in!

MetLife customer support sucks and…

MetLife customer support sucks and their website is like a third world website. The customer supports do not understand my question. My checking account paying the monthly premium was compromised so that I went in their website and made one time payment from another account, but it never withdraw the money instead they sold my fund without notifying me beforehand. Even after submitting EP agreement with new account, my monthly remittance still has an issue. I called them. They said it will do next month but who knows? I got the same answer last month. The CEO or the executive should improve their services.

Awful for beneficiaries

As a beneficiary for a deceased parent they are a nightmare to deal with. Just keep sending me letters requesting more information. 3 Weeks after I sent them everything I finally had to call because they hadn't contacted me back. They're now requiring me to refill out a claim form listing the dollar amount of the policy (they wouldn't tell me this previously). Shouldn't they have that on their own records? Now I have to resubmit all the documents and start the whole process again. It's been 2 months. Other companies I'd worked with were so much easier and took a few weeks. They also outsource their call center so good luck getting someone who speaks english.

Metlife erroneously closed my claim 3…

Metlife erroneously closed my claim 3 months before I returned to work. I spent 2 months to resolve this and have been waiting for over 1 month for them to process my claim. Fingers crossed they do their jobs before the year is out. A shame I had to call them weekly for updates and they still never did their jobs. I fell thru the cracks.

I'm at a loss for words at how HORRIBLE…

I'm at a loss for words at how HORRIBLE this insurance company is!!! Like everyone else.... if I could give ZERO stars I would!!!! I'm a massage therapist and I broke my arm. I'm supposed to get 60% of my pay for a maximum of 26 weeks. After 3 weeks of being disabled I've received a WHOPPING $9!!!!!
They told me that If I applied for state disability they only pay the BARE minimum. SSDI pays the 60%!!!! That makes NO SENSE!!!! MetLife is ADDITIONAL insurance coverage for certain circumstances. In my case it's for SHORT TERM disability!!! Now they're asking me for ER reports, Dr visit reports, HOW does my broken arm make it that I'm unable to work etc.... How am I not able to work?!!!! I'm a F@#$%& massage therapist!!!! I have to spell it out to them?!!!! PLUS I've already sent them EVERYTHING they need!!!! Why am I being harassed?!!! What an ABSOLUTE let down!!! I'm paying them MORE each month than they're giving me! WAY MORE!!! Why would I do that?!!! I'm cancelling as soon as I get back to work! NEVER AGAIN! TOTAL RIP OFF! AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!!

Awful

Awful. Don’t reply to your emails, phone line is a joke. Appalling customer service.

I’ve cancelled the payments from my bank and informed MetLife that I am cancelling the policy and asked for confirmation……nothing.

By all accounts the company is as bad as the shady brokers who sell the policies.

Put Stop Payments on their checks

Sent two checks for Short Term Disability for the two weeks I was off after surgery. They only pay about 60% anyway, so I wasn't too flush with cash. 4 days AFTER depositing the checks, Metlife put a Stop Payment on one of the checks on a Saturday morning, resulting in my bank acct being out that money I was using paying bills. And of course, there is no one in the office over the weekend so good luck in getting anything figured out until Monday
