Constantly blocking payment instructions

Useful for the free FreeAgent integration but otherwise an infuriating bank to deal with as they frequently block outbound payments and debit card payments to legitimate businesses and for legitimate purposes.

If you need to make payments that are time sensitive, avoid - unless you like sitting on hold waiting to beg the bank for permission to use your own money. I don't have anywhere near as much friction with Virgin Money's business accounts.

Absolutely shocking-avoid at all costs

I was initially told my application would be processed within 20 days, so I waited patiently and planned my business accordingly. Once those 20 days passed, I contacted them only to be told there is now no timeframe whatsoever because they are “handling many applications”.
That is beyond unacceptable. If you do not have the staff or systems to process applications, you should stop taking them, not mislead customers and leave them hanging indefinitely. This is not a delay — it’s complete incompetence and a total lack of respect for customers’ time and livelihoods.
Do they seriously expect business owners to put their operations on hold indefinitely while they make excuses? The communication is vague, contradictory, and utterly unprofessional. There is zero accountability and zero transparency.
I have withdrawn my application today. This experience has been one of the worst examples of customer service I’ve encountered.
An absolute disaster of an organisation. Stay well clear of this bank if you value your time or your business.

They market to say that you can open an…

They market to say that you can open an account with two owners but then later during application process they declined opening of account because of they deem my partner who is co owner of properly we own together as not a ‘owner’ Don’t waste your time with this so called bank

Unexplained Rejection from Mettle

I applied for a business account with Mettle and received a generic refusal stating they were “unable to support your business” after “careful consideration,” with no actual explanation.

They explicitly say the decision isn’t based on credit score, yet also say they can’t comment further. That leaves you with a blanket rejection and zero transparency about what failed or how to address it.

What makes this worse is that Mettle operates under NatWest a bank I already use personally. If I’m not considered suitable for a business account within the same group, then I see no reason to continue as a personal customer either.

I’ll be closing my personal account with NatWest and moving to a bank that actually wants my business.

New business bank account - great option

The application process is straightforward, it did however take a little while for my application to get approved BUT the communication and updates I received whilst I waited was fantastic! My account was approved, and I’m enjoying how easy the app is to use. I would definitely recommend it.
