Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 60 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People frequently struggled with endless login loops, frustrating password resets, and unexpected error messages when trying to access essential online government services. Consumers also complained bitterly about extremely long phone wait times, notably unhelpful customer support, and the sheer difficulty of resolving sudden account lockouts without proper assistance. Some reviewers were happy with specific staff members who handled all their inquiries politely and patiently. A few customers genuinely appreciated the calm, polite, and helpful assistance provided by certain representatives during difficult phone calls, making the otherwise frustrating process slightly more manageable.

Absolutely disgusting and unethical

Absolutely disgusting and unethical. It won't let you login to the ATO despite having a password, fingerprint, and passcode. And their customer service chat is all robots that won't transfer you to a human, you have to call. In this day and age no one should be forced to make a phone call. It's very dodgy behaviour to refuse to allow the public an avenue of communication that includes a written record.

If there was a score below 1 star it…

If there was a score below 1 star it would overly flatter the app and the website. The government is a disgrace leaving us no alternative than to deal with a site that won't work. When it won't work the error tells you to call 132011. Then you learn the government has outsourced the help line to people in the Philippines! They help by telling you over and over to keep trying the website and the app that don't work.....great help! All due respect to the Philipinas, they are lovely people but why are we not dealing with people in our own country?

government website made by a 5 year old at code-camp

This is easily the worst website I have ever dealt with which is surprising since it is a GOVERNMENT website. Clicked forgot password twice but it didn't send me the code at any point, attempted to enter my password got it wrong and it locked me out for 30 minutes. Tried to sign in with MyId and it said you need to link it to MyGov WHICH I NEEDED TO SIGN INTO, what's the point of having a digital id if it send you in an infinite loop. Then i tried to create a new MyGov account and i clicked use email and it said "you have signed out of this browser", tried different ways to create a new account and was met with similar issues. AHHHHHHH

Nightmare…WORST ONLINE SYSTEM OF ALL TIME.

Worst online service of all time, even its own members find it almost impossible to get into.

I kept trying to reset my password & it took my round & round in circles.

Absolute nightmare to navigate. Sack the IT people who thought up such an awful system! Even with ID from my photo, my fingerprint, my passport & licence it still wants more information & logging in is a real challenge causing major issues!

They are clueless.

They are clueless.
I was having problems downloading my Medical Benefits Statements from my inbox after it suddenly stopped working and giving me an error. I called to get it sorted and was emphatically told that it never ever had the ability to do this, even though I had already downloaded several statements previously. I even spoke to a "supervisor" who collaborated and said that it never had the ability to do this, which is obviously incorrect as 3 months on I can now download the Statements again. You know, the ones you said emphatically can't be downloaded from my inbox. It must be magic! - YOU FOOLS.

I forgot my password

I forgot my password, and the system asked me to follow several steps to reset it. I completed all of those steps and replaced my old password with a new one. After that, the system requested the answers to some security questions, but I couldn't remember them since I had set them a long time ago. As a result, they locked my account and advised me to call myGov. The next day, I called and spoke with a representative after waiting in a long queue. Because I couldn’t recall the answers to my security questions, they had to close my account and advised me to open a new one. This has been a hassle, and I dread the process of linking all my services again, such as ATO, Medicare, and Centrelink. In the name of security, the current myGov system is providing a disservice. I wish I could select zero stars instead of the one star I had to choose on the satisfaction rating scale.

To the MyGov Correspondence Team,

To the MyGov Correspondence Team,

I am writing to seek your expert guidance on a matter of basic mathematics. It appears there is a slight disconnect between the disability pension your department facilitates and the digital expectations you place upon its recipients.

Currently, my medical expenses alone exceed $1,400 per month. After attempting to cover the cost of existing indoors, I am left with what can only be described as "crumbs."

In your infinite bureaucratic wisdom, you have decided that the only way for me to receive correspondence is via a secure portal that requires consistent mobile data and calling credit—utilities that cost between $40 and $100 per month. Since you are the ones facilitating a pension that doesn’t cover the basic cost of living, perhaps you could explain which life necessity I should sacrifice this month to afford the "luxury" of reading your automated letters?

Should I:

A) Forgo essential medication for several days? B) Miss a utility payment to fund the data required to see a "New Message" notification? C) Simply appreciate the irony of a government department demanding I spend money I don't have to access a service they claim to provide for my support?

It is a fascinating paradox: you pay the pension, so you know exactly how broke I am, yet you insist on a communication method that requires me to be wealthy enough to maintain a consistent digital presence.

If the goal of this setup is to ensure that those of us in poverty remain uninformed and burdened by "consequences" we cannot avoid, then you are succeeding brilliantly.

If, however, there is a shred of common sense remaining in your offices, you will stop sending me redundant notifications to an inaccessible account and start using my actual email address.

Until then, I will continue to enjoy the mediocre day my poverty allows, while you continue to hide behind your digital fortress.

With the utmost sincerity,

Trying to navigate and link Centrelink for an aged pension application is an absolute nightmare. I lost count of the times it logged out and sick of going round in circles. Gave up. Phone queues are horrendous. The whole system is a complete waste of time.

Yes, I had to hold for 70 minutes, I was having multiple problems with My Gov app. But, once I got through, staff could not have been more helpful. Sorted through my problems patiently and politely. I was very impressed.

Trying to log into myGov to request a…

Trying to log into myGov to request a replacement Medicare card after mine was stolen has been one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve had.

First, I was asked to answer a security question I never even set — “What was your high school nickname?” I didn’t have one, so I was completely stuck. No workaround, no option to verify another way.

So I tried to troubleshoot by creating a new account, thinking that might fix things. Nope. Then it wouldn’t let me link Medicare using my birth certificate as ID — with zero explanation as to why. Just blocked.

I’ve now called Human Services twice and requested a callback both times. They said 20 minutes… that was over 3 hours ago. Still nothing.

Honestly, the whole system feels broken and impossible to navigate, especially when you actually need urgent help. Sorting out something as basic as replacing a stolen Medicare card shouldn’t be this hard.

Hamster wheel would be more useful

I feel like I'd get further running on a hamster wheel..
Wont let me update bank details online, tells me I have to do it in person or via phone. Over an hour wait time advised on phone (very telling when phone service is very strongly reminding you over and over not to verbally abuse their staff) hang up due to wait time, try to book appointment online for either phone appointment or visit to a service centre, won't direct me to where I can book appointment, just tells me that I can! Go back online again after a 5-minute break, all services are down. Climbing Everest would be quicker and easier..I JUST WANT TO CHANGE MY BANK DETAILS FOR MEDICARE GRRRR!!!!!!!!
