MyScent Review
Online Impression: 5/5
Upon searching for a perfume subscription service, I was exceptionally excited to find that not only was there one available in Australia, but it contained a mix of luxury and prestige brands, something that is relatively uncommon in perfume subscriptions. Though social media presence was scarce, there seemed to be plenty of images by the company of their luxurious looking bottles in their beautiful sleek black packaging, I was very excited for this subscription as a perfume lover.
Customer Service: 2/5
I began my subscription on the 13th of July. The website stated that if you sign up after the 10th (The normal monthly ship date) your box will ship within 7 days. Several days in, I hadn’t gotten any tracking or updates either on the website in my account information, or via email. I first tried to send an email to the customer service email provided on the website, to which I never received a reply. I then tried the MyScent facebook pages messages, which after not getting a reply for several days, I messaged City Perfumes, their partner, how I’m meant to contact MyScent. Immediately after sending them a message, MyScent responded to me. Overall, it took about 6 days to get any sort of reply from MyScent. My package didn’t end up shipping until about 8 days later, and I received it in the 26th, which I’m happy with, considering some subscription services make you wait until the next month to begin your subscription.
Opening First Impressions: 3/5
Upon receiving the subscription, it arrived in a regular white post envelope with my name and address affixed to a sticker at the front. The exterior shipping envelope doesn’t matter as much as long as the contents within are exciting. Unfortunately, I didn’t get that “luxury” feeling. When you open your package, the only thing is your perfume sampler box, and your promised $20 City Perfumes voucher. I expect from a subscription offering luxury brands to receive some sort of documentation along with your box to describe the products and get you excited, like a card that lists the featured colognes/perfumes in your box, release date, scent notes, and possibly even a short summary on the brand that produces it. Small details like this greatly increase the luxury feel, which I feel is important in a subscription service offering a sampling of big name perfumeries and designers. Another thing that disappointed me a bit was the bottles. Their advertisements show glass vials, which look Luxe, but mine arrived in milky plastic vials (Besides an actual branded Chloe sample) which don’t look or feel nearly as lovely as the ones I thought I was receiving. The foam the vials sit in also has a velvet overlay which is too cheaply glued down, so once you take out a vial, it already begins to peel, I just ended up peeling mine off completely, and I honestly don’t think they should bother putting it on unless it’s going to be affixed more securely, as the packaging looks just fine without it.
Final Thoughts: 4/5
Though I felt customer service and the implied luxury of the subscription was lacking quite a bit, I’m overall quite satisfied with my subscription. I enjoy the selection of fragrances I got for July, which were:
Chloe
Dior – La Colle Noire
Juliette Has A Gun- Another Oud
Kilian – Gold Knight
YSL – Manifesto
Thierry Mugler – Aura
All vials seemed equally filled (Not completely full, but these vials are never filled to the brim, that’s just how they work) and the sprays seemed to work lovely, they produced quite a large wide spray. Though this is nice for applying perfume, it uses up your samples far faster compared to some other finer spray nozzles. One spray from the plastic vials used about 1/8th of the product, so I do not feel that the 20 or so sprays is accurate, perhaps that was for the possibly smaller sprays from the glass vials.
Overall, I’m satisfied with my sampler, and look forward to my box next month. I give this subscription an overall rating of 4/5.
