Beware of their sales people's claim especially if you're starting a new company
Beware of their salespeople.
They will make it seem like they are reasonable and intelligent enough to tell the difference between a fraudulent company and a legitimate company.
I told the salesperson that we were a very new company. He said that would be fine and that we just had to keep communication open with them if some payments were higher or if sales increased in volume.
I signed up and went through the approval process without issues. But I signed up too early, thinking we would launch our services earlier. We ended up paying the monthly fees for almost two years without using their services. That was my fault.
But now that we have launched our software and marketing solutions, our first client purchased an $8,000 package, which was a higher amount than what I had told the salesperson to expect. So I called them to let them know, and they told me to break it into $2,500 payments. I said okay.
I sent three invoices. The first payment went through fine, but they froze the second payment the client sent, pending an investigation that was supposed to take 1 to 3 days according to their own rules.
On the 5th business day, I asked them to return the frozen funds back to the client so he could pay us by wire transfer while they continued their investigation.
The next day, on the 6th business day, they said our account was closed because of fraud risk.
One reason they gave was excessive chargebacks and refunds, even though we did not have any chargebacks or refunds. In fact, that first client has been patiently waiting to pay us the next payments and never requested a refund.
The only real reason I would give National BankCard is that the amount for that first client was more than expected. But the salesperson had told me that even if I got a surge at the beginning, I just needed to stay in communication with them.
To make things worse, they say that, in the fine print, they have the right to hold the frozen funds for 180 days.
I could understand that it may take up to 180 days for someone to get their money back if the funds were given to the merchant and they needed to take action to get the merchant to reimburse the client. But I am the merchant in this story, and I never received the funds. The funds remained in National BankCard’s hands. They could refund the client right away.
So this is what I advise you: Do not sign up with them if you are a startup and you are starting with low funds, or if you are a startup that is good at marketing and expects a surge of sales. They are likely to shut you down.
Read the fine print. These guys are not on your side, and they do not seem to operate in a way that is best for both parties. They appear to think only of themselves.
They do not necessarily hire people who can tell the difference between a fraudulent company and a legitimate company. In this case, I gave them all the client’s contact information. They could have called the client and confirmed that it was a legitimate transaction. The client told me he did not receive a call from them. They just shut us down.
Do not use them if having them hold funds for 180 days would harm your business. Frankly, there are better alternatives than them, so even once we are doing great, we will never go back to them.
Finally, don't sign up with them until you're ready to sell. There is a chance they'll shut you down, especially if you do well at the start. That way, you won't be paying them monthly fees, which they'll gladly take and then get shut down when you actually need their services.
