Five stars to National Storage!

I recently received absolutely top notch service from Gaurika and National Storage. When my plans changed mid-way through the transaction, Gaurika readjusted seamlessly, explaining what the changes meant clearly, so that I knew 100% what was going on. 5 stars to Gaurika and 5 stars to National Storage.

A couple of days overdue on the rent

A couple of days overdue on the rent, just waiting for my company to top up the credit card, so without notice they lock me out.
Couldn’t get the gear I needed, so had to send workers home.
We’ve been on time with rent payments for years.
When the roller gate brakes down and we can’t get in they don’t offer any compensation.

They stole my life's memories and belongings

I stored my valuables with National Storage in Canberra for over 5 years, at a extensive cost. I find out on Monday that they auctioned off my life's memories and valuables as I was two weeks late with payment. They did not call me, nor email me. And I only found out when I rang them as there was no bill received.

They have my passport and military medals. I have asked for these to be returned. They have not replied.

Crooks

The facility itself, at Coconut Grove, is fine. A little tired but fit for purpose. However these crooks, also at head office, can charge whatever they like once you are in there. They have just increased my rent for the second time since April 2024, from $308 to $497, an increase of 62%. What could justify an increase of that much? So either I suck it and pay or move, pain in the....

This company is outrageously BAD

This company is outrageous of not only non existent service but they breach numerous Acts and practices of business conducts.
This includes having every number for every National Storage going to a call centre, whose phone personnel all state they can not or do not know any numbers for the right departments. They merely flog off and take ones numbers to say they will be in contact, but within 3 months not one person has contacted from the assured department to attend to a very serious issue of where I had a unit with substantial valued items, for over 9 years spending over $30 000 and due to failings , deliberate stonewalling, inactions my goods likely to be allowed to be compromised/harmed. Their Legal do not contact. Call centre phone personnel, hang up phones, when one asks to be put to this right department. Would never store with this appalling company that has no regard to its customers who have spent so much money with them, do not act in good faith.

National Storage no way

I wanted to store my boat while we did some renovations. It would be stored for one month. The price quoted to me was in excess of $650 for one month. Then I was told about the added charges, first I had to buy a lock from them, I couldn't supply my own lock, then I had to pay a cleaning fee. I said that I thought that was exorbitant. The reply was "Well you dont have to store here". With that I left and went 200 metres down the road to another storage business called Box and Lock Self Storage. No cleaning fee, i could supply my own lock and the price was $350 for the month. If you are using National Storage, maybe you need to rethink your choices

e is…SHOCKING

This service from National Storage is unacceptable. The customer service well there isn't any the staff are rude and sloppy. The state of the premises is so bad I'm ashamed to keep my gear there. Since you have taken over this premises it has gone backwards 99 per cent. The grounds are unkeeped rubbish left everywhere floors broken trolleys missing. The office is half the time unmanned can not resolve or ask questions. Tried to hire a trailer a while ago went to storage premises 3 times in one week office closed no staff. This is about the 5th increase I've had since your company took over just not good enough.
I wouldn't mind paying good money for a clean facility great customer service but you people do not fit into this category. I also will be moving my gear to a better premises if this is not sorted. Shame on you

No integrity or customer value.

I have had a small 1.5 x 2 unit for the past 5 years. It started at NZ $91 and gradually went up to $124. On the 19th Dec 2024 I got an email saying they were going to put it up to $130 the same price for a 3 x 3(the same size I have is currently $92). I put in feedback on their website and recieved a reply 2 days later. They had reduced the price to $71 yay. Forward to 17 Jan 2025 I recieved an email saying that the fee is going up to $130. Its the weekend but first thing on Monday I will be putting in more feedback and seeing what comes from it. If nothing then I will terminate. I know its in the contract that says they can raise the fees every six months. I think its rubbish when the ones advertised are less and you find you are paying the same amount for three times the space. The service from the staff is great, the lady I spoke with told me they didnt agree with the price hikes and informed me about putting in feedback on the website. I certainly won't be recommending National Storage to anyone. Just an Aussie company ripping off its own and Kiwi customers.

Not worth the cost

I have just finished storing my property with National Storage. The property was secure and safe, hence the two stars. But the increase in price was disgraceful. My rental increased by more than 50% during the five years with National Storage. All my attempts to negotiate a better deal were refused. They knew they had me over a barrel - because I was living overseas, they knew there was little I could do. In the end, it became more economically feasible to pay for someone to collect and throw out all my property then to continue paying for storage. I wrote to National Storage at the end of my rental to explain why I was no longer a customer, saying the consistently rising costs made it inviable. To show how little attention they paid to my concerns, wrote back asking me to share my "positive experiences" online, so I have.

Increased my storage rental by nearly…

They know how to scare off loyal customers.

My padlock was left off my unit and it took them at least a month to notify me.

The manager (K#@&n) tried to lecture me, incoherently rambling on about how using the entrance keypad which left me Totally confused

On my last visit to the North Geelong facility she appeared intoxicated in speech, appearance and odour - this was before lunchtime.

In conversing with the manager her face was bright red and there was obvious Slurring of words

The mind boggles at how this is allowed to go on putting everyone's health and safety at risk.

Increased my storage rental by nearly 100% from 2021 - 2024 for a small cubicle.

Would not assist in keeping my current rate even though I had never missed payment in years.

The facility is very dusty and Uncovered (Basically a big barn)

The question begs whether we are prepared to put up with such unprofessional behavior?

Greedy corporate who does not give a damn about customers

I am writing to express my strong dissatisfaction with the recent notification of an 18% increase from National Storage in the rental fee for my storage unit in Darwin. This steep increase, with no additional services or benefits provided, is wholly unjustifiable and comes across as price gouging at a time when many Australians are struggling with a cost-of-living crisis. While a CPI adjustment would be understandable, this excessive hike reflects corporate greed, especially given their substantial $250 million after-tax profit in 2024. Corproate greed - do not rentoff National Storage.

VULTURES AND PRICE GOUGING After being with them for a year

After being with them for a year, they increased rent by $10. Acceptable right? Well guess what. As soon as 2025 started, I received a SECOND rental increase except this time, it was for $53! This was shortly after their system glitched and stole $168 off me which was not refunded. Their staff said the $168 was taken was correct and they would not be refunding it. I also contested their $53 rental increase and was met with an AI generated response saying that the increase was "justified" based on current market conditions and inflation.

If you have a larger unit with them, have the unit almost full and have been with them for 6 months or more, This company WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE of how many things you have in your unit and use it against you to price gouge your rent! AVOID NATIONAL STORAGE AT ALL COSTS!

In short: National Storage is an evil, predatory company who will take advantage of your situation in order to maximize profit.

AVOID -PRICE GOUGING AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

Avoid National Storage – Price Gouging and Terrible Customer Service

I’ve been a long-term customer at National Storage Jandakot, but their recent treatment has been appalling. Over the past 12 months, my rental rate has gone from $293 to $466 (plus GST $512 a month) despite barely accessing the unit. New customers are paying less for the same unit size, yet when I raised this, head office just gave me a vague excuse about “market conditions” and refused to do anything about it.
They provide false information, I was told no similar units were available, but when I checked, there were cheaper larger units on-site with the same access . To prove the point, I rented a larger unit under my business name at a much cheaper rate, but when I asked for the same rate for my personal unit, they refused.
Their focus is clearly on ripping off loyal customers, not providing good service. After this experience, I’ll never rent from them again and strongly recommend you look elsewhere. Beware of their dishonest practices and excessive price hikes. Plenty of better options are out there.
National Storage Jandakot – all about profit, not customer care.

It's the same criminal practices

It's the same theme throughout reading these 1 star reviews of National Stealers oops Storage. They steal your money by increasing the monthly rent by 25% after only 5 months. Yet their website is still advertising 25 to 50% off 1st month only. So they entice you with a sweetner knowing they will increase way above CPI or the false excuse of increase in demand of storage units (otherwise they wouldn't still have the 25 to 50% off first month available on the same size units if demand and supply was an issue)

What's even more mind numbing is the staff at the Kedron centre agree it is immoral practise, but say 'We just work here!'We are the ants at the bottom of the hierarchy, that just follow the management's policies. We have no power or discretion to refund late fees or reverse automatic increases of rent or by how much."
The staff also agree it is pathetic that the only way around the price increase is to have to waste your time and money moving all your belongings into another unit of the same size just to get back to the original price you signed up for only 5 months previously!
I mean what a joke! What a con!
National Storage are also the only storage company thatl charge you a late fee of $11 or more PER WEEK, you are late with payment, hence you can end up paying an extra $40 to $50 of fees on top of your already inflated RIP OFF RENT INCREASE!
All other storage companies charge a late fee only once per month. I gave them this feedback and they shrugged their shoulders and blamed upper management
Maybe upper management, the CEO and the Board should be reading these same theme, 1 STAR bad reviews and eliminating the greedy practices and policies mentioned repetitively via Trust pilot and other review websites.

Thanks to National Storage (previously…

Thanks to National Storage (previously Lake Storage), over a decade worth of memories stored in the Rotorua Railway Road facility. Around 30k+ paid in fees & then when it’s time to get everything out, we find theres a hole in the facility & most of our items are destroyed. Not to mention the staff not apologising or trying to empathise, instead saying its from the “cleaning products in the box”, she takes photos & no reply for weeks, the manager even ignored our phones calls once she heard who was on the other line (sneaky how their call centre always wants your personal details before passing you onto the actual facility). After we sent a similar message to their socials, the manager finally reached out only to send us the email below, they are unable to confirm any dates or give us proper information on the “discussion over the phone” too, yet if a bill was 1 day overdue, you bet they would call us multiple times.

Please be wary as it’s not cheap to use these facilities. They are NOT water tight (even though the hole is actually a fault of theirs, that they do not want to take responsibility for), the facility is infested with rats).

Photos to view also.

Unfortunately, as there was no insurance cover on your account, there is nothing that we can do/be liable for moving forward.

According to the terms and conditions of your Storage Agreement, more specifically, Section 12,
“the goods are stored at the sole risk and responsibility of the Storer who is responsible for all loss, damage and deterioration of the goods and bears the risk of all damage caused by flood, fire, water, spillage of material from any other space, removal or delivery of the goods, pest or vermin or any other reason whatsoever including any acts of omissions from the owner or persons under its control.”

We have attached a copy of the Storage Agreement terms and conditions for your reference.

We note that during our phone conversation, you mentioned that you had cover for the first year you were here, but you did not renew it. Therefore, it is unfortunate that your goods have been stored here without insurance cover for the past 6 years.

It is up to the storer to ensure that items stored in the space are regularly sighted, as the center do not have access to units to check if there are any problems that have arisen, and center team can only perform due diligence from the outside the unit.

Our records indicate the last time access was initiated to the unit was the 4/01/2023, which is well over a year prior to the vacating of the unit.

We understand the concerns you have raised. Unfortunately, there is nothing further we are able to do.

Overpriced, refused refund even when adequate notice supplied

I used this company at their Mansfield facility and, in line with other reviews, I’ve been so angered that I need to express total disgust with the way this company charges a full month, even when adequate notice of 2 weeks is given of move out date. Why should they be allowed to do that. A house rental only requires 2 weeks vacate notice to get back bond. As with so many ripoffs happening now, consumer law is yet to catch up, particularly at a time when many people facing housing crisis and have to put their goods in storage for an indefinite amount of time. I was overcharged about $400 because they wouldn’t refund for the time I’d paid for but didn’t need.
And I also experienced the hike in rates throughout a six month period, by $100 a month after about 3 months.
Try to avoid, go somewhere else. I’ll be taking this up with the Office of Fair Trading.
To be fair, women staffing the office at Mansfield were always pleasant in person, and the facility was easy to access, and felt a safe place for goods. Just a shame about the overpriced charges and dodgy refund practices
