Home Energy Scotland helps people in Scotland create warmer homes, reduce their energy bills, and lower their carbon footprint. We are funded by the Scottish Government and managed by Energy Saving Trust. We work with people and organisations to help tackle fuel poverty and the climate emergency – both key priorities for Scottish Government (and humans in general). We do this through a network of regional advice centres covering all of Scotland, which offer local knowledge and expert advice on saving energy and keeping warm at home, funding options including Scottish Government grants and interest free loans, installing renewable energy at home, greener travel including electric vehicles and ebikes and cutting water waste.

I contacted them to see about the EV charger grants. Got an informative email back containing the information I wanted as well as other links. Filled the form in and emailed it back, the form says to allow eight working days, got my response within 24 hrs with everything I needed for the company that are going to fit the charger. I cant fault them.

The processing time is so long. I was told that I could go ahead with the work as I had received all the paperwork. Then the next caller I spoke to said I wouldn't get the grant after the work had been done and paid for. That was almost 3 months ago and I'm still waiting to get confirmation. In the meantime every person I've spoken to has said a different thing, I keep getting contradictory and inconsistent advice. I have been in my overdraft for months now.
Editing to say I made a formal complaint on 8/08/23 and have had no response despite sending follow up emails. I have now contacted my local MP

Made applying for the relevant grants and loans for my really badly-insulated house a very easy process.

I have only made an initial enquiry regarding advice and what's available, but it was all very helpful and informative. Won't hesitate to get back to them.

The application process was quick and easy but I put my claim in for the 60% of the funds as a deposit 2 months ago now! Absolute joke that I’ve today had an email saying they can’t continue processing my claim as they didn’t recieve in writing that I wanted to make the claim. Like what the actual hell?! Why would I submit claim paperwork and all the documents if I didn’t want to go ahead with the claim?!

Advice given was good, very helpful and encouraging. Now that I have my grant approved and requesting for 60% drawdown to pay my installer, all i was given was please wait 10-15 working days. I have requested for drawdown for 2 months now. I have to call every week for them to realise they missed an email, forgot to get confirmation from me or my installer, getting consent from me to proceed, then needing my installer to verified the quote was real (which was done during application so don't see why ask then and ask again during drawdown), managers been away, managers been busy, going to 2 managers for approval, excuses excuses. Wonder why Scotland is slow in adopting renewable when government is so supportive? Well hopefully the SNP get to speak to them and get an answer in 10-15 working days.

A valuable resource for people looking to become more energy efficient. They are helping me apply for grants and government loans to upgrade my home to become more sustainable.

HES advisor spent time recording my individual circumstances and providing advice on programmes and grants available to owner occupiers to improve on current energy efficiency.

Prompt and efficient service from the young man i spoke to. He explained as he went along and took the time to listen also.

Home Energy Scotland, as an organisation, is a joke. When you call, depending on who you speak to, you get totally different information. The only thing they are consitent at is not paying out. How are renewable energy installers supposed to stay in business when HES don’t pay out for weeks on end, after an installation is signed off?

Home Energy Scotland were very helpful and friendly every time I was in touch with them. I think their team are exceptional and a pleasure to work with.
My only comment is that once sending in documents, processing was a little slow, so giving the team a call helped to speed things up. Perhaps it's possible to expand the team to help with processing times.

Have been helped along with process for application for funding for external wall insulation, I had issues with previously installed cavity wall insulation resulting in costly removal and additional work removing damp plaster and wet rot floorboards due to water ingress, hopefully be able to get house with a improved EPC to try and reduce energy bills.

... those you sent to our home were abysmally unprofessional and made a botched job replacing our boiler leaving us with two bedroom radiators 50% functional. Now we will have to install oil radiators during winter.
Whilst Home Energy Scotland has always been professional requesting details which I appreciate and applaud but the damage is done. I am not the only person to complain about the supplier in question.
