Our family has been with NRMA for decades. We have only ever had good reasons to stay with them. Whether it’s online, over the phone or in the local branch, we have found the service to be great. No hassle with claims, and the feeling of being truly valued clients means a lot. Another family car happily and easily insured over the phone yesterday

I have never had bad experience with NRMA. They have always been quick to provide and assist with quotes or claims.
Recently with a travel claim, the NRMA agent stayed on line with me until I was able to access website and correct page. They also informed me on how to make the multiple claims I would need to submit.

We have always had a positive experience when dealing with NRMA and have always felt well looked after.

I have been with them for over 10 years, but loyalty doesn't work with NRMA.
2023 motorcycle ctp with was $450 approx
2025 same bike same details $824.
Did A blueslip and $824 CTP with NRMA.
Was told to go ahead with rego and call us back we will adjsut CTP of $824. Call them back best they can is reduce $83.
The kicker
Did an online comparison. NRMA comes back with $620 offer for the same bike same details etc.
I call them and ask could you look into this? I get put on hold then hang up on me.
Called the second time. Give them details to confirm who i am, i ask to Put me onto the phone with the last guy i spoke to, he knows my details. I get on hold and hang up the line
Called the 3rd time was told no we cant do anything about it sorry. Basically option is to cancel ctp which means cancel registration and then look for another better price them.
Moving forward my 5 policies with NRMA will no longer be with them once it's over.

Not recommended this insurer for home insurance.
Recently my house got leaked by rain, and damaged from roof to the inside walls.
I lodged the claim with them, been told the roof is not covered by insurance but the inside walls, and the repair to the damp wooden beams inside will be covered. However, our excess is $5,000. We agreed with that, paid the $5,000. They then sent a contractor company people came back and forth checking out but no repairs were done.
After all that, we received an advice from NRMA that the contractor is not able to do the job. If we're going ahead the total assessment of the repair is $6,040 as I was told, and the first $5,000 is ours the amount pay out is $1,040.
I decided to withdraw the claim and requested the $5,000 back. Even though, this process is not easy, I contacted NRMA, one of the staff members told me we have to fill in the BSB & bank account details form in order for the money to return to us. That's ok if she didn't mess up and sent me an incorrect form and she insisted that is correct till I have to tell her to relook at the email she sent me, she was then very reluctant to do it, and keep asking me is it anything else she can help me. Then she put me on hold and send me the second email which has the correct form without saying apology till I have to refer to it in the conversation, she then said apology.
Very unhappy and frustrating.

I don't recommend this company, very rude, I paid over $2000 for a tv, it got damage and they only offered me $690 with an excess with $600. I showed them that I paid $2000 and they said they would give me $1700 for the tv then called 2 days later and said that now they are not going, very bad rcustomer service, don't recommend this company they will take your money but don't want to give any benefits to their client, sadly the customer comes last to this company.

The worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. They find all excuses not to pay you including lying. Dont waste your money with them.

We have been with NRMA for over 30 years but have changed our car policies to Youi as they are better value.
We will also be changing our house policy as we can’t understand the sub continent accents anymore and also they transfer you and send you to the wrong departments.
The phone service is extremely poor and it is obvious that these people are not the least bit interested in us as a customers or our wellbeing.
It’s like talking to robots that you can’t understand and they can’t seem to understand us either.

So my bike insurance was taken over by nrma and consequently the insurance had lapsed. Jumped online to renew but gotta create a profile etc.. can’t login, get a quote to fix up insurance online, didn’t take funds on nominated day. Called up to get it sorted and the guy was helpful up until the point of getting my login profile sorted. Got insurance paid for 12 months so that’s done. Now I checked my bank and found out that my monthly payment was taken. If I was able to talk to someone face to face I reckon it would have been sorted. Now I gotta call the call centre and wait for god knows how long before I can talk to a real person.

Hello,
This is a friendly warning and piece of advice for everyone planning to travel and purchase travel insurance from NRMA Insurance — do not waste your money. NRMA Insurance has built its reputation purely through heavy advertising, but in reality, it offers no real services. Because of its big name, it charges the highest insurance premiums among all insurance companies. However, it never processes claims properly and never pays compensation.
This is not only true for travel insurance, but also for car insurance, home insurance, health insurance, job insurance, business insurance, and so on. They always try to delay the claim process unnecessarily with ridiculous and irrelevant questions, and they demand private and confidential information that has nothing to do with your case — all just to avoid paying compensation.
When handling a claim, they specifically ask for personal or sensitive information that many people are unwilling to share for privacy or security reasons. Then they use that as an excuse to reject your claim.
Personally, I have a travel insurance claim with NRMA that I submitted 2 months ago, but every time it is assigned to a new person who asks the same old questions along with new ones, even though I purchased one of their most expensive travel insurance policies.
This problem hasn’t just happened to me — many people I know have had similar experiences. For example, one of my friends filed a car insurance claim, and NRMA dragged the process on for eight months before refusing to pay. My friend lost $20,000, and the company’s excuse was that the other driver involved wasn’t answering their calls.
In another case, someone I know died in a house fire, and insurance company refused to pay compensation, claiming that the fire was suspicious or intentional, or that the deceased was somehow responsible for the fire. Can you believe that? A person dies in a house fire, and the insurance company says the fire was deliberate!
Based on my own experience and the experiences of friends, Bupa and Allianz are far better insurance companies. They handle claims quickly and pay compensation without unnecessary complications.
This was the first time in my life that I filed an insurance claim, and it turned out to be a terrible experience — all because of NRMA. I will cancel all my insurance policies with NRMA and strongly advise everyone I know not to use NRMA’s services under any circumstances.

Edit:
After consulting with NRMA again today, 8 Nov 2025, amendments have been made to my policy and this has saved me about $180.00. To still quote that it is weather and crime stats is far reaching when it changes so much, I have to acknowledge their rules and procedures . Thank you to Chelle that I spent some time on the Chat with this morning to get this sorted. I will go three stars.
On 6 Nov 2025, I insured a house in Cairns with a date to start being 8 Dec 2025. I then had to change that to today's date, 7 November 2025 on solicitor advice. Same amount insured for both home and contents. When the quote came through, the premium went up by $27.70 per month ($332.00 for the year) from the policy I took out yesterday. When I rang them I was told that there are weather conditions and crime stats that will change a policy amount. Seriously, so within the next four weeks Cairns, you should expect severe weather conditions and a massive increase in crime. Woman on the phone just said 'nothing we can do'.

Our caravan was damaged by hail and I have to say NRMA were very quick to act and it was all finalised with money in our bank account all within two week time frame but this is what I will say
We wanted to have our van repaired not written off but we had no part in this decision , definitely a throw away society
You obviously pay an excess , money lost through no fault of owner
Three months into the years premium and you cannot retrieve the nine months left of the premium NRMA keep that and said it is written “ in the small print” and all companies have the same policy …well that was a lie as I rang YOUI and they said they definitely do not have that in their policy , do not like being lied to !!
And then you sell the van and keep the money and if we had wanted to buy back our van then we would have had to negotiate with pickles auctions , so not a great outcome for us but sounds a good financial outcome for NRMA
But once again you did act swiftly and did not prolong the process which was good seeing as we also were dealing with a roof with hail damage at the same time

Cameron's friendly, no-hassle manner made for a smooth experience. When he did encounter difficulty with a payment question, he wasted no time in passing me on to a supervisor. Problem solved. Happy with everything - even the premium.
