Top reason for 5 stars is that it has…

Top reason for 5 stars is that it has shut my brain up from whispering in my ear that having my bottle of wine is fine. I’ve gone from drinking a 13% abv bottle of wine over 2-3 hours and basically passing out at bed time to 1-2 2.3% or no more than 5% drinks over 3-6 hours and never getting a buzz and being totally okay with it. No more waking up feeling guilty, shaken, and unfocused. No more taking that first drink and losing all ambition. Second reason is not having to go to my local doctor to ask for the med. I was able to do it quietly at home.

Mind at peace

I’m just a week in taking the medication and I already feel the difference my mind is not controlled by alcohol. I do think of having a drink but it’s not consistently in my thoughts. So far I’m very happy with the medication and will continue to take because I know it’s helping me

I didn't want to quit drinking entirely.

Naltrexone really works. I use it on days whenI don't want to be tempted to drink out of boredom. On days when I plan to entertain, dine out, hit the Club or meet friends for Happy Hour I don't take it and that plan seems to be working for me. Now, depending on our social schedule, I drink three or four days a week instead of seven, and on the days I choose NOT to drink the meds keep me from even thinking about a drink!

Shocking Effects

I received my prescription on a Thursday evening and was nervous about taking my first dose on a work day because of the side effects that I had read about. Because of this, I decided to wait until the following day, Saturday, to start. I did drink that Friday night but was determined to start Saturday anyway. I am not sure if it was just the initial reaction of my body to the medication or what if I still had alcohol in my system, but it made me sick within an hour of taking it. That night, and the following, my wife and I had a music festival that we were attending and I was nervous about how I would handle it. After getting over the sickness feeling in the morning, I was shocked that I didn’t even have an urge to drink! I had a couple drinks anyway, just to casually drink with friends but I didn’t even come close to the urges and habits of drinking faster and heavier as the night went on. By the end of the festival on Sunday night I was completely sober for two days in a row. That was a feat I never thought possible. After that, I haven’t even had an urge to drink since. I am not anticipating that I will never drink again, but as I had always wanted, I really want to reset my relationship with alcohol and get my health in check. So far, I’m succeeding.

Congratulations on your terrific progress to reset your relationship with alcohol! Clearly, you are off to a great start. I am especially impressed with your determination to start and stick with your medication routine even amidst obstacles that might have thrown others off, including the initial side effects and a major event with friends where alcohol was on the menu.

Keep up the great work that you are doing to take back control over alcohol and keep noticing those benefits as they stack up,

Taking Naltrexone helps

Taking Naltrexone definitely helped with my cravings for alcohol. When I do have a drink I can limit it more easily. Oar is very helpful - perhaps more than my doctor ( who knows nothing about this drug ) would be. However, I am tired and fuzzy headed all of the time which must be caused by this drug since there are no other changes to my habits. Not happy about this.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It is great to hear that you are noticing fewer cravings and more control over how much you drink when you do drink. I'm sorry to hear that you are feeling such uncomfortable side effects though. If you have not already done so, please let the medical team know about the symptoms you are feeling, so they can provide advice on how to best manage them.

Hang in there,

I wanted to cutback on my drinking

I wanted to cutback on my drinking and tried cold turkey, it worked for a bit but was back at it, then I saw a commercial for Oar and thought ..... why not! So I did and can honestly say the cravings have stopped and do not drink the way I used to! Don't get me wrong I still drink but only socially and in moderation, I wish I would have found this long ago! I'm feeling great mentally and physically ,I've lost weight and every day gets better.

Im very grateful to have access to naltrexone! I was up to 4, even 6 drinks daily. Im into my 3rd week and Im intentionally lowering my intake rather than stopping all together. Im at 2-3 drinks daily which is God sent. I havent succeeded at connecting well through coaching nor the Facebook group. I had some concerns in the first week which I shared with the coaches. I didnt find their answers geared toward my specific concerns. I wondered if their response was part human and part AI. Anyway it didnt feel supportive. I kept trying to connect with the Facebook group but it hasn't worked despite confirming my email, etc. The issue just sort of fell off their radar. There are other ways I can connect which Im building up to.

I am so glad that medication prescribed through Oar Health has been so helpful in achieving your goal of cutting back significantly on alcohol use.

But I'm sorry to hear that it's been difficult to get support that's on point. All coaching provided through Oar Health is 100% human, so I will review your messages with the coaching team to see if there are opportunities to do better, both for you and future members. I'll also reach out to you via email about joining the Facebook group.

Thank you for sharing your experience — the good, bad and ugly — and, most importantly, congratulations on the positive changes you are making for your health and wellbeing.

I am sorry that you were turned off by the need to collect credit card information. We need to collect payment when we start a new members' initial assessment, so we can compensate the medical professionals providing that service for their time, expertise and care.
