Buying vehicles from Openlane is not worth it. Too much hidden facts and bad claims servis.

Catastrophic complaint service... I'm breaking up with them after 15 years, they're ungrateful. They also lie in car description.

We are still dealing with an unresolved situation involving a vehicle purchased from OPENLANE Europe without the required documents, rendering it unusable since delivery. After weeks of back-and-forth and repeated requests for resolution, they finally agreed to accept the vehicle return — but with one condition: they will only schedule transport when it is financially convenient for them, to avoid losses on their side.
Meanwhile, we continue to bear the cost of their mistakes: wasted time, internal logistics, and an immobilized vehicle for nearly two months. Our legitimate expenses are being denied reimbursement, not because they are unreasonable, but because we don't have paper invoices for every small operational step.
This entire process has revealed an alarming lack of customer care, responsibility, and basic fairness. OPENLANE Europe is more concerned with protecting their margins than honoring their obligations. Communication is bureaucratic and indifferent, with no urgency or accountability.
We urge others to be cautious. If anything goes wrong, this is the kind of treatment you should expect. We deeply regret doing business with OPENLANE.
LATER EDIT:
Thank you for your generic reply, but after 4 months of waiting, vague apologies and promises of dialogue are meaningless. The vehicle was paid for, returned in good condition, with CMR documentation — and yet, no refund has been processed.
OPENLANE Europe tells us to “contact them directly,” but when we do, nobody answers or takes real responsibility. We are no longer interested in empty words. What is needed is concrete action: the immediate return of the funds that rightfully belong to us.
This case speaks for itself about how OPENLANE Europe treats its customers when something goes wrong.

Pay attention! For anyone who needs proof, I can show you screenshots of how Openlane claims department treats clients who spend tens of thousands euros on their platform. I want to share my recent experience with Openlane, which has unfortunately been quite disappointing. Over the years, I’ve purchased four cars from them, but my latest purchase has made me aware of the risks involved.I bought my most recent vehicle, which was delivered on April 16th. After driving just about 30 kilometers, the check engine light came on. It turned out that the car had a defective NOX sensor. When I raised a claim with Openlane, I was surprised to find it closed with an email stating that they had sourced a non-OEM BMW NOX sensor on eBay for 80 EUR. This response felt quite dismissive, as I can't use generic parts for the vehicles I sell to my customers.I always pay in advance, yet it seems that once they receive the payment, they do not prioritize their clients' concerns. I am not going to contact Openlane anymore; now I am waiting for them to reach out to me. Overall, this experience has left me feeling frustrated and concerned about the quality of service. I hope Openlane takes these issues seriously.

I bought an Opel Astra through Openlane and I can't register it – the registration certificate is flagged as stolen. A criminal case was opened in Romania and the car is now unusable.
After posting a review on Google, they replied publicly saying they take the case seriously. I contacted them privately right away, but they refused to help. Their public reply was just for image – no action behind it.

I do NOT recommend! Poor service, no phone support, only chat robots

I bought 6 cars at openlane.eu and so far I didn't experience any big issues. Minor items were quickly solved by the help of my contact person at customer service. Thank you for that, E.M.!

Poor customer experience, lack of communication and information. Not keeping deadlines at all. Do not recommend to buy on this platform.

Car delivered extremely dirty as always, I've gotten used to it. BUT the problem is that after almost a month after taking delivery we still don't have the documents for the car. So we can't register it and it's useless, worthless. We keep urging support, who keep writing constant excuses. The option to file a claim has even disappeared from our complaints section. I don't know where to turn anymore. One extra key does not belong to the car at all.
They want money immediately but their service is disastrous. We have lost a lot of money and have an expensive car that we can only drive in the yard at most.

In the past month I've won a bid on 4 cars, all 4 were denied by the seller. But if I was to make a mistake, I'd have to pay for the car that I've won, make it make sense. Sellers are protected too much while buyers not at all. I'm done trying, it's impossible getting a car.

The car prices are fair, great value. I trust the company in handling paperworks for me.

I WARN EVERYONE AND DISCOURAGE ANY COOPERATION WITH THIS FRAUDULENT COMPANY
I won the auction, I paid the price within one day. Nothing happened after that. After 3 weeks I was informed that there was an attempted theft of the vehicle, that the vehicle was damaged!!! I asked for more information, but they only gave me a total alibi saying that the damage had been done in a place where the vehicle was already ready to be taken away. after 3 weeks, it was just ready for transportation! and then it was a pure tragedy, no activity in solving the problem, just nonsense about how they were doing everything to solve the case, and again nothing happened. I repeatedly tried to find out what had happened. It was a 47k EUR vehicle, so I assumed they would make an effort to resolve it. They didn't. And they didn't. Just bullshit about the insurance company handling the claim. Almost 5 weeks and they haven't told me anything.
I just don't believe that if it's their contractor they can't handle these things.
Communication with these fools is tragic. You can't call anywhere, it's a tragedy over chat, they shuffle you from one department to another, finally someone writes some stupid stuff. And then the same thing all over again. Their approach is totally and absolutely unprofessional. They are a bunch of incompetent liars.
I finally used their suggestion to cancel the auction, so I believe they will at least refund my money.
In any case, if I can recommend, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM!!!!! THEIR SERVICE IS TRAGIC, THEIR APPROACH EVEN WORSE. YOU DEFINITELY NEED TO LOOK AT THEIR COMPETITORS

I bought a car from Openlane on 17/06/2024. The car was delivered at the end of July 30/07/2024. I waited another 2 weeks for the documents to be “delivered”, it turned out that the documents were lost and they were “looking” for them. They could have started the process of making duplicates immediately, but instead, they pretended to "look" for the documents. Every week or two, they wrote back that they were still searching. Then they said they sent a request for duplicates and it would take 25 days. After a couple months, it turned out that the duplicate could not be made without a vehicle inspection. This means that they did nothing all this time, if they had started the process of making duplicates immediately, it would have been possible to do it without a technical inspection, as the car was under 4 years old and on French registration.
All the time it was difficult to contact them, they do not give contacts of their managers, they write back to my letters when they want to. During this time the car got old and I lost customers because of Openlane. I sent them an offer to take the car back, refund my money and compensate for the loss, as you guessed no response. I have collected documents for the court, press and bloggers. If there is no response from Openlane I will take action.
If you would like to make a collective complaint.

A deceptive platform for selling cars. Zero satisfaction for end customers and misleading information with cars lacking documents and/or incorrect details. Do not bid, do not buy.

I'm sorry I didn't get more information about this company, I paid for the car on January 30th 2025 and I still haven't received the pick-up authorization, I contact OPENLANE daily but without success, we don't receive any concrete answer, they lie to us every day that we will receive an answer but the car has not been deregistered yet 20 days after payment, although their delivery time is 10 days for cars from the Netherlands. We are being deceived and we are forced to contact a law firm to solve this problem. FIRST AND LAST TRANSACTION WITH THIS COMPANY UNTRUSTWORTHY

Extremely unprofessional attitude!!! I bought a car two and a half months ago for which I paid the price of the car and transport from their side to the final destination, but the car does not move from its location. No one answers our emails and the phone number that is indicated. Moreover, when we get to any contact with them, no one gives adequate information about what is happening with the car and when it will arrive to us. I have been working with them for a year and this will be the last car purchased from us. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEIR SERVICES TO ANYONE!!!

Hello everyone,
I want to share my experience with Openlane.
Generally the customer support center and claims department are useless. It took Openlane more then 3 months to export a car from Italy. The car was paid in October 2024 and arrived February 2025, as per Openlane comments the main reason for the delay were the Christmas Holidays ( during November the car stayed in the seller, which was 5 star rating seller). When the car was almost ready for export, the technical inspection expired and the seller must renew the technical inspection. Almost one month the car stayed in the seller, one month to send the number plates and carry out the technical inspection and one month for deregistartion in Italy. The car arrived in bad condition, the owner had a dog which left a lot of doghair and markings in the interior.
Please avoid to buy cars from Italy, the time to prepare a car for export as per Openlane website is 20-22 working days. My car was paid 29.10.2024 and was delivered with "high priority" on 03.02.2025. During the whole process I send a lot e-mails, I tried to contact directly the seller, because Opelane was not sharing any information about the reason of the delay. The seller was not cooperating at all and did not cared what was happening with the car. For Openlane customers support center was absolutely normal after 3 months the car still not to be ready for export. Daily we asked for updates and we received none. If you buy a car from Openlane you can't cancel your purchase. As a customer you can't do anything but wait and hope to receive your car someday. I will definitely not use the platform for my next car. As I mentioned the owner of the vehicle had a dog, so the car was a mess. The pictures provided by the seller weren't showing any evidence of doghair and markings. As per the "inspection report" the car was in "bueno condizione" in Italian this is "great condition", and please don't get me wrong I understand that is very difficult to notice WHITE doghair on top of a BLACK carpet. The dog ate a few pieces of plastic but still "bueno condizione". I'm not sure that I bought a car or a dog cage. I was hoping that despite the delay the car will arrive in good condition and I will not write a review, but after I saw the "bueno condizione" I must share my experience to protect somebody else.
The choice is yours .... I regret the fact that I didn't know about all the negative reviews.
Defenetly don't trust the inspection reports and I wish you luck if you buy a car from Openlane! If you buy now maybe you can receive it before the summer.
I'm waiting for Openlane to comment below and to show how sorry they are.
I don't need to share my purchase number and claim number, you perfectly know who I'm and for which car I'm talking about.
Thank you Openlane, you deserve 0 rate!
