Warning to prospective counselling students – misled about qualification level and shown little compassion
In November 2023, I was told via the course provider’s website chat — by a staff member (whose name I have been asked to remove) — that their “Advanced Counselling Diploma” was equivalent to a Level 4 qualification. Based on this information, I enrolled that same month, as I was working towards becoming a qualified counsellor.
This was actually my second course with this provider. During my first course (Level 3 Counselling Diploma), I suffered a serious accident, which meant I had to take time out from studying. Despite informing them of my situation, they were unwilling to extend my course access or pause my enrolment, even though I wasn’t using their services at the time. I was left with no option but to repay in full to restart the same course, which added unnecessary financial and emotional strain during an already difficult period.
Fast forward to the “Advanced Counselling Diploma” — halfway through this second course, I discovered to my horror that it was not equivalent to a Level 4 qualification at all. The course is not regulated or accredited by any official awarding body, and it does not meet the standard required to progress in professional counselling training.
I contacted the tutor, who confirmed this. I requested a refund due to being clearly misled — which they agreed to — but I was never told that accepting the refund would result in immediate removal from the course. Without any warning or notification, I was locked out of the platform and all access to my work was deleted. I was over halfway through the diploma, with seven months of study and assignments completed, all of which was lost in an instant.
The lack of dialogue throughout this experience has been both frustrating and painful. At no point was there a genuine effort to communicate clearly, resolve issues collaboratively, or treat me with basic respect as a learner.
The lack of compassion from this company and the unprofessionalism I’ve experienced throughout has genuinely left me in shock.
This entire process has been distressing and disappointing. I invested months of effort into a course I believed would help me progress professionally — only to find out too late that it wasn’t valid for that path.
If you're pursuing a counselling qualification, please make sure the course is accredited and regulated (e.g. Ofqual-recognised or CPCAB-approved) before enrolling. Don’t rely on verbal or live chat assurances — ask for written proof of the course’s official status.
I hope this saves someone else from the wasted time, money, and emotional energy I’ve experienced.

Thank you, Oxbridge!
James has been a great help! He has made sure that everything was clear and provided all necessary details. From the day I enquired to the day I enrolled, it's truly been a wonderful service!
The Oxbridge finance team reached out to me to make sure all questions were answered. Though they had a bit of a delay in responding to concerns and providing bank transfer details pushing it closer to the deadline, nevertheless the overall service was amazing! Thank you!

Study time - incorrectly advised 5-6 hours a week - absolutely no way I’d have finished both the Oxbridge content and the hodder book in this time so ditched their own course and just used the hodder book the same as what my son was working from in college.
Tutor support - a pre booked telephone call….really …? How is this tutor support
Online classes - a few group classes only for revision , why could they not do this every week?
Reached out on numerous occasions for extra support and said I was struggling , total waste of time, couldn’t care less about your mental health
Overall opinion…mis-sold, take your money and then lack of support. May as well have just done this on my own and paid a proper online tutor face to face.
Be warned!

Not good!
I’ve had a bad experience with Oxbridge from the very beginning until the very end.
I just don’t recommend to anyone.
I was given the wrong information constantly and never got the help I needed.
Quick to take your money but their customer service is terrible.

Daryl’s outstanding support
Mr. Daryl is an incredibly helpful and dedicated instructor whose resources have been an absolute game changer for me. The materials he provided were not only clear and well structured but also tailored in a way that helped me immensely in understanding complex concepts. What truly sets him apart is his ability to give excellent, constructive feedback that’s both actionable and encouraging. He doesn’t just point out areas for improvement; he provides specific guidance on how to address them, which has made a significant difference in my progress. Mr. Daryl’s support and expertise have been great and I couldn’t recommend him more highly!
