I paid Patterson Law £2,040 because they advertise themselves as road traffic specialists. The day before my trial I was told in writing that my barrister would meet me at court. When I arrived there was no barrister at all. Instead Patterson sent an immigration solicitor who clearly had no experience in road traffic law and no understanding of the details of my case.

Important evidence that I had provided was not even included in the file given to the court. The solicitor they sent was not able to deal with the situation and I quickly realised that if I left it to Patterson I would almost certainly lose my licence and face thousands of pounds in fines. I had no choice but to defend myself from the witness stand. Fortunately I had the confidence to do that and was acquitted.

When I complained, Patterson did not deal with any of the serious issues. Their replies were dismissive and arrogant, and they tried to shift responsibility elsewhere. In the end they offered me nothing more than a token sum of money which in no way reflects the danger I was put in or the poor service I received. I have now escalated this to the Legal Ombudsman who are looking into it.

After reading more reviews it is clear that I am not the only person who has been let down. Many of the one star reviews say the same thing, that clients were promised a specialist and ended up with someone completely unsuitable. Some reviewers even say they lost their licence or were fined heavily because of it.

If you are considering using Patterson Law you should think very carefully. Ask who will actually represent you on the day, because from what I have experienced and from what I have read from others, there is a clear pattern of people being badly let down at the point they needed proper help the most.

Like most other callers, I was a little stressed about the whole situation, and Karen was brilliant. She asked questions about my circumstances and then gave some very clear and constructive advice on the next steps I need to take. She took away a lot of the anxiety I had, and offered some reassurance to me. Thanks Karen

On receiving notification of a potential totting up ban, I contacted several companies but found the initial conversation with Patterson Law to be the most professional and reassuring. Whilst they did not make any promises that I would avoid a ban, they felt that I had a good case for it. It was made clear that proving exceptional hardship was not an easy thing to do.

I was then passed onto Jake who gave advice about what type of supporting evidence I would need. He reviewed this and made suggestions for what else I could do. My experience was positive and I would recommend this company.

The barrister assigned to me had received all the relevant paperwork and was well-briefed and the outcome for me was that I avoided a ban. The common attitude seems to be that avoiding a ban is 'easy' but it really isn't. I am relieved with my outcome but also dismayed I was stupid enough to get myself into that situation.

On the basis that one star is the minimum I can give, I suppose it is earned for the sheer brass neck of stating they have an 80% success rate. Other than that the company is dire. I received my fourth speed camera conviction in February 2025 and was allowed to drive for another full six months before my court summons. I rang Patterson Law for their free advice service and was told I had a good case. In exchange for £1640 (£1400 + vat), I was assured of a positive outcome. Bearing in mind I have been driving cars since 1983, and riding motorcycles since 1975, you could say I have a lot of experience before my first time in court. My wife of 46 years has never driven a car, or even taken a test, so she is totally reliant on me for mobile errands. I do the family shopping and take her several times a week to visit her 94 year old mother, who has severe mobility issues. I also do her shopping. I also take two of my grandchildren to school each day and pick them up also. Without this service my daughter, who is a teacher, either couldn't send her children to school or she would lose her job and her house. I have a 79 year old brother who doesn't drive either and has balance and mobility problems. I am his first point of call in an emergency.
I was assigned Connor O’Brien as my advisor at Patterson Law. He phoned once for a chat but offered no advice on how to present a strong case. I prepared statements for myself and my mother-in-law off my own back, and emailed them to Connor O'Brien, only to be told he was on holiday. From then until the date of the court hearing I heard nothing. At court I learned that I was represented by a complete stranger, who, inspite him being very professional, had received no paperwork or instructions for the case, not even the statements I had forwarded. He told me we had little chance as I had taken my copies of statements along but, he said, we needed many more to highlight how important my licence was, not only to me but my family too.
Suffice to say I was banned for six months and fined accordingly. Imagine my surprise a few days later I received an email from Connor O’Brien telling me how disappointed he was at the outcome but, should I wish to appeal, it will only cost me another £700. I replied that, considering how much I had already laid out, that the appeal should be included in that sum, as the amount of work that had been completed in my case was negligible. Hand on heart there is no way that I could recommend Patterson Law to any would be drivers in search of legal advice. Much better to defend yourself with robust honesty than rely on moneymaking charlatans.

I contacted the advice service regarding a driving offence and was given really excellent advice. My options were laid out clearly and objectively and it helped me make a decision on what was best for me. I would highly recommend this company - they are professional, helpful and very easy to communicate with.
