Be careful when making a purchase from Bravissimo if you live abroad, it may cost you more than you expect. But the product was good.
Bravissimo has recently imposed extra charges for items for my wife, who has been a loyal customer for over twenty years, in a manner that is unjust. We currently reside in Spain, and when placing orders with Bravissimo for items from the United Kingdom, Spanish VAT and import duty are applied on delivery. While this is standard practice, and we have no objections to paying these charges. However, Bravissimo has also seen fit to add an extra amount that is the equivalent of the UK VAT, which raises some concerns.
My wife has previously raised this issue of the additional charge with Bravissimo, but the company’s response was simply, that this is how we charge all customers.
This statement is inaccurate. When purchasing within the UK, customers pay the product cost plus VAT, with the VAT going to the British Government.
For customers in Spain, Bravissimo should only charge the product cost, as VAT and import duty are subsequently imposed by Spain. By charging an extra amount, Bravissimo is effectively charging international customers more than is necessary, the amount charged is the equivalent of the UK VAT. They Seem to do this so they can make extra profit.
Bravissimo may claim that the extra charge is to cover exporting costs. But this is not the case, in fact the company saves on costs, due to the provision of free returns, not being available to EU customers. EU customer, also cover their own delivery costs.
For example, my wife’s most recent order amounted to £85, with the additional Spanish charge of €33.31. Such treatment of a loyal long-term customer is unacceptable and falls far below expected standards of fair trading. Bravissimo need to stop charging what amounts to be an extra charge to clients just for living outside of the UK.
In a year we make many purchases from companies within the UK and not one charges UK VAT or any extra charges for export to EU customers.
