Extremely poor service

I had to cancel my car insurance policy due to the fact that car’s been sold, I firstly attempted to cancel on the 3rd February, sending an email as that’s what the process was, then 4 day later, still not cancelled and the way they replied to me emails was extremely disappointing, once in a day or two, when was about taking money for being insured with them, that worked so smoothly, but when is about refunding back some money and cancelling a policy is extremely difficult and long to sort.
This was the first and undoubtedly the last I will be looking for a policy insurance with Peppercorninssurance

Nice idea, but AI based insurance is still a long way off.

Nice idea…..until you want to amend your policy. You don’t have an online account to access your policy information. 9/10 the ai chat bot can’t help you. Leaves you in a queue to speak to an advisor, if you even blink at your phone it disconnects or refreshes itself claiming your inactive. Yes, In a queue where you can’t do anything else but be inactive. You can whats app them! but every single reply takes longer than second class postage with Royal Mail. Probably expect an hour between telling them your vehicle reg and the first line of your address.

It’s a nice idea, but something I don’t think AI is ready for ( I understand it’s cheaper not to pay someone to sit on a phone line.) Still waiting to find out when they plan on taking my cancellation fee as I can’t seem to get through to anyone at peppercorn. Wouldn’t insure my change of vehicle . No driving other vehicles also, even though your fully comp. Can’t understand all the 5 star reviews, I’m currently writing this review as there live chat has disconnected me for a second time to tell me ‘they haven’t heard from me for a while’ and they’ve ’cleared my conversation to protect my data’. Stick to the big guns for an extra £100. Back with esure, couldn’t be happier.

For queries beyond its scope, our dedicated Customer Experience Team is on hand to assist you.

We're accessible via live chat, WhatsApp, and email, each channel with its own service level agreement, with live chats given first priority. Nonetheless, we have a committed team of agents who promptly respond to your enquiries and process your requests within a reasonable timeframe.

Please note that we do not offer coverage for driving other cars, a detail communicated to you prior to purchasing insurance, allowing you to make an informed decision about our suitability for your needs.

Allow at least 2 hours when dealing…

Allow at least 2 hours when dealing with this company. Ive had to add a driver on 2 occasions needed it done quickly and ive had to go onto Cuvva to insure them, effectively paying for insurance twice.

I honestly cant wait to get back to a conventional insurance company with a dashboard and real people where I can make simple amendments to my policy quickly and efficiently, unfortunately everything Peppercorn is not.

Similar to any other company, we may experience peak periods of activity. However, I've noted that during your attempt to add a driver the first time, your chat received a response within 8 minutes.

Additionally, today you exited the queue but rejoined and successfully communicated with an Agent who facilitated the addition of the driver to your policy.

We value all feedback deeply however it's crucial to highlight that taking a proactive approach to your insurance coverage can help avoid the need for acquiring temporary cover from another insurer, as this is a potential scenario with any insurance provider. Additionally, during your two interactions with our Customer Experience Team, you did not communicate this concern to them, hindering their ability to offer guidance for future adjustments.

Would be zero but not an option!

Would be zero but not an option!! Avoid avoid avoid at all costs. All seems rosey when you don’t need anything from them!
My situation is:-
Car accident 28th November 2023 reported immediately other driver at fault.
Car finally collected from impound on the 21st December after I hounded them, no communication re my car prior to this.
5th Jan midday over an hour trying to get through to be told car repairable, decision made through image only inspection.
5th Jan 4pm told car was a right off and they would be in contact to confirm (this was actually a phone call from peppercorn!!!)
19th January I chased again as heard nothing (spent over an hour trying to get through then another hour on the phone being placed on hold most of the time) to be told the car was going to be repaired!! They then looked further into the claim and said no it’s a total loss they just needed someone higher up to confirm! And they would be in contact!
22nd chased to be told that a manager would ring me back within 24 hours to confirm the total loss.
24th Jan nothing had to chase again to be told by someone that it had to be outsourced to a body repair shop for an estimate this is the only time that somebody rang me back and said she would keep me updated (kerli).
25th Jan email from kerli saying no body shop would be willing to provide an estimate so they have to send an engineer to actually look at the car (for the first time since the accident).
25th Jan rang took 90 mins to get through spoke to a very unhelpful lady who practically told me why are you ringing when you’ve had an email explaining the situation!! All I want is answers and apparently it will be 5-7 working days to get an engineer to look at!! Issue pushed want to speak to somebody higher up in the company to make a complaint I am now waiting upon Sarah a team manager to ring me who has had my file since Monday and was supposed to be ringing me once she had reviewed it (this was obviously the manager that was supposed to ring me within 24 hours!!) not holding out much hope for this phone call!!
My car is sitting in a salvage yard deteriorating and losing value every month that passes!
This is ongoing with no real end in site so if not dealt asap with I will keep everyone posted on a daily basis with a one star review.

Very poor after sales service. Be careful.

If you are looking at this company for a potential insurance policy then be very careful in your decision making. The prices are ok and its very easy to set up a new policy, but its hugely frustrating to try and contact them if you need to. I am currently trying to contact them to cancel my policy but so far having no joy, the website doesn't seem to recognise my cars registration most of the time (it has twice only), and you end up looking at a holding screen for hours on end with nothing happening until the page decides that its timed out and you are directed back to the start page again. I have emailed them at the help email address but also received no replies as of yet, although I'm still just within the 48 hours they quote. And all this just to cancel a policy!!!! Just imagine if it was something time sensitive and you were in need of making a claim! Overall, very poor service, couldn't possibly recommend unless you knew that you 100% wouldn't have to contact them once the policy was set up. As it stands my policy is still active, wait and see how long that takes I guess, 1 star is generous.

We're only available online for policy related queries and we're very transparent about this with you before you buy a policy with us. We have a Claims Helpline and the number to call them is in your policy documents, which are sent you straight after you complete your purchase.

We appreciate that we've been busier than usual recently but your email was sent just yesterday (less than 24 hours ago) and you contacted us today on live chat, we've responded to both contact methods within a reasonable timeframe.

when A.I. stands for An (drunk) Idiot

AI when ai stands for An Idiot, except it's worse than an idiot. Your emails get replied to by this sub idiot, or you get stuck in a long queue, it's worse than the worst customer service, and they aren't even paying on savings to you.

They have no normal website, where you can find out information in a normal transparent manner, and things that would normally be handled with sense, are instead handled in the most stupid way possible, leaving you to pick up the pieces and constantly do all the thinking and checking for this fuckwitt robot. There is no transparency therefore on due process, as any information must be gleened from their windup barbie doll or action man, in fact a child with a plastic toy would do a better job of the customer service than this inexcusable badly thought through mess that doesn't even live up to the logic promise of normal computer systems. It's like speaking to an innane drunkard who's close to passing out, but who has the power to fine you, slam you with extra charges and get you into serious trouble. Don't waste your time with this nut house, signing up is easy... But any issues, any need to cancel and it quickly devolves into a nightmare after you've given the machine its beer money.

Regarding peppercorn's response...
"you haven't even attempted to contact the customer service team" rubbish... Because they fixed my problem...... So I must have contacted them... It just took several days, when many of my questions/problems could be answered by you simply having a website, instead of having to type endless different permutations of the same question to a robot that eventually advises you to contact the customer service team... Which can then take days to respond. Artificial ignorance should not be sold as artificial intelligence. Even real ignorance is preferable to the one you have invented.

Our Conversational Assistant is capable of carrying out many functions and it's programmed every week if not every other day to further enhance it's abilities, however there are some tasks that it hasn't been trained to do yet. For those enquiries you do still need to connect with our Customer Experience Team, who are real agents, for you to explain your query to.

We're extremely transparent regarding our fees and terms and conditions, your policy documents are presented to you during your buying journey and sent to your email straight after you purchase. There a no extra/hidden charges, in fact we go above and beyond to ensure that you are aware of everything you're paying for by reminding you of ours fees when you want to cancel or make any adjustments to your policy.

We can't see that you have attempted to contact our Customer Experience Team even once since you bought your policy Roland and your emails are read by the CX Team before they decide how to respond.

I need to be contacted asap as I applied for a policy with Peppercorn 2 days ago, my payment is pending (ie..NOT in my bank account) and I’ve heard nothing from Peppercorn..I don’t have a policy in place and I’m £818 down! I’ve emailed with no reply and my bank say they can’t help as they need authorisation from Peppercorn to cancel the transaction. PEPPERCORN..get in touch with me!!!!!!!!

We made contact with your bank when you entered your details prompting them to set aside the funds but the payment failed so it will be released by your bank back into your available funds within their timeframe.

Our Conversational Assistant is already able to handle various tasks and undergoes continuous programming to expand its capabilities. To implement specific policy changes, you do need to connect with a Customer Experience Specialist. Our CX Team have been a lot busier than usual recently which is why the wait times are slightly longer.

I see that you contacted us through our live chat service a few times in the last few days. You left the queue a few times and when our team did respond to your chat requests, there was no reply from your end. We had a conversation with you on WhatsApp a few days ago, and you interacted with us again yesterday on live chat.

We value customer feedback greatly, and it plays a significant role in our commitment to improvement. However, it's important to note that we explicitly communicate, prior to policy purchase, that we do not provide a customer service number and operate exclusively online for policy related queries. Worse insurance company ever .customer service doesn't exist. Shocking company.just had an email from yourselves because I have put this review up. My husband was nearly killed in a road accident. The 3rd party was at fault . They sorted it all out . The car has been written off .email after email to inform you of this and still no reply. Now have put this review up . You send me an email saying the is fees to pay as it's been cancelled . How can we pay. .
A fee we did not cancel it was written off .. And cost nothing as the 3rdparty paid.it all .
