When my Land Rover Discovery 4 had…

When my Land Rover Discovery 4 had suffered a failure of the exhaust balance pipes, I continued to use it for a while but it went into limp home mode. I had it transported into PF Midlands, who had done work on the car before on 22nd April. I was given a list of things for me to source and supply as before and delivered all of the parts. I was warned that the body had to come off and it was a big job. Online searches told me to expect a bill of around £1500 from a main dealer so I thought mine should be no bigger as I was supplying hundreds of pounds worth of parts to replace everything sensible while there was good access. A month later, I got a telephone call asking me to pay almost £2000 for work done so far. I reluctantly agreed, but asked for a detailed invoice so I could see what I was paying for and for the car file. It did not arrive. When we got to July, I called to ask when I would get my car back. I was told the first week of August. August came and went with no news. In September, I called again and was told my car had been ready since the 16th August. I pointed out that I had not received a detailed invoice for the first payment. I arranged for my car to be recovered back to me. When it got hear, there was bodywork damage in two places, with vertical scrapes that can only be caused by up and down movement against something, as on a car lift. I called and was told it was nothing to do with them even though there was not as much as a scratch on the car when it went in. I was then send another bill for £660, meaning the total cost, with parts I supplied had gone over £3000. Less than 200 miles later the car broke down again, and it appears that the fault is something that will require another lot of major dismantling, but which could have been done easily and inexpensively when the body was off. I called and was told it was nothing to do with them and that the part hadn't been checked while it was accessible. Never again! I am now waiting for the RAC to take it to another garage.
