While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more

Once they have your email it's hard to unsubscribe

This site is hard to use and very inconvenient to log in to do lessons. I decided not to continue but have found that the emails just don't stop coming even though I unsubscribe and update my email preferences. I'll soon be so fed up I will just asign it to junk.

You can learn a language with Pod101, but..

You can learn a language with Pod101 and if you want to learn an uncommon language you may not have much choice. However it is tedious process. I have been using the app and the website (you need to use both as they are different) for the last four months learning Afrikaans. Here are some of the frustrations:
- all the recorded lessons are identical, down to the exact wording in English. Obviously the Afrikaans dialogue is new with each lesson.
- there are lots of mistakes in translation and even in Afrikaans spelling. One example is Kaapstad was translated Netherlands.
- there are quite a few resources but they can be hard to find.
- the flashcards are good but can only be accessed online, not in the app.
- there are constant requests for you to upgrade to a higher level and prices for this can vary enormously.
