Portuguese With Carla & Friends Reviews

I am very happy to have found this site to learn Portuguese. In my opinion the best way to learn a new language on-line.

Carla and Marlon's program eschews traditional classroom foreign language teaching, which invariably teaches living languages like dead ones (my field is Latin, so I should know!). Instead, there's an engaging story, great, well-structured exercises that avoid rote memorisation of vocabulary lists and conjugations, and actually get you listening and speaking to real Portuguese, not artificially slowed down (like so many language apps). Take the journey and you'll see!

I was not sure what to expect. I have the advantage of speaking Spanish, so Portuguese seems familiar. I started listening to the podcasts from their website and really enjoyed the way it was taught. Then, I decided to get the Journey. Even though it seems more advanced than expected, mostly because we have the idea that grammar goes first, they are actually teaching in a way that with time makes sense. The use of an external app and the fact that you earn points makes me feel quite engaged. With a ADHD background, it is important to feel that adrenaline which helps me with hyper focusing. They always respond quickly if you send a message. They somehow feel like family.

I have tried many online European Portuguese courses and programmes.

This is BY FAR the most comprehensive, engaging, and most importantly the material is clearly and consicely delivered.

Carla and Marlon are very funny as well! Through the stages of The Journey you are made to feel like a friend; the delivery of information is relatively informal and you almost feel like you are sitting in on a conversation rather than "a lesson".

Beyond The Journey there is also the "Mercearia" where lots additional useful information is available.

Learning Portuguese with Carla and Marlon will leave you able to speak every conceivable situation, and will also give you some interesting phrases to impress the locals.

In short, the course is well worth the price, and is the best I have come across over 8 years of casual self-learning.

This is such a well made program. It keeps you very engaged.

This program is helping me so much with learning European Portuguese! Carla and Marlon have created an interesting and comprehensive program that keeps me engaged and gives me just enough learning and practice to not feel overwhelmed while I also see true results. Highly recommend their program. They've done so well putting it together professionally. Five stars.

Portuguese With Carla is an excellent comprehensive custom-designed language-learning course for European Portuguese offering a mix of audio, video, and written instruction in a step-by-step fully immersive and interactive journey to mastery of the language using the best learning techniques following the latest developments in the study of language acquisition. I cannot rate the course highly enough, and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in coming to Portugal to live for an extended period of time like my wife and I have done.

Great interactive online course, easy to get in touch to Marlon and Carla for questions, very feed-back and development minded, covers a vast amount of content.

Great and solid program, you can trust Carla and Marlon !

Portuguese with Carla & Marlon is funny and easy learning. It is very intuitive and it gives me the idea that I understand a lot of what I'm learning. I like the video's and the explanation.

Portuguese with Carla makes learning Portuguese fun and easy. I feel like I'm in good hands with her and Marlon. It's clear that they genuinely want to help people learn and are really creating a fantastic and immersive program to do so.

The Journey, an online language learning experience created by Portuguese with Carla is wonderfully innovative. It makes mastering European Portuguese efficient, fun, and entertaining.

I believe the educational methodology employed by the creators to be cutting edge. The program encourages language learning by watching videos featuring native speakers in everyday situations. Then, augments those videos with quizzes and flash card supplementals.

The website is technically outstanding as it is very fast to load and very responsive. It never distracts from the flow of the curriculum.

If you've tried other online language learning programs in the past and haven't been satisfied, I recommend you give The Journey by Portuguese with Carla a spin. You’ll be very happy with the results!

Portuguese With Carla is amazing!

The amount of work and thought put into this brilliant course is truly beyond belief.

The 'Exposure' videos in each level are always entertaining (and some borderline hilarious),
with sections helping the learner to practise pronunciation of the video's content, and going into in-depth detail about the dialogue.
The quizzes to each video are very well thought out; detailed and challenging, though never intimidating, and the consolidation exercises are dynamic and engaging, truly helping set the new knowledge in.

Each level is accompanied by a chapter of 'The Journey', which has an addictive storyline set throughout mainland and the autonomous regions of Portugal.
There's a load more on the site, too, and it's constantly being updated and improved! The option of contacting either Carla or Marlon for help throughout truly makes you feel accompanied on your learning journey.

All in all, Portuguese with Carla is truly unique and brilliant method, tailored to suit any learner's needs.

I could not ask for anything more.

This is an intensive course that is well done and presented in an innovative way. It follows along a "journey" that takes place throughout Portugal, and involves staged conversations taking place in all kinds of situations one would typically be exposed to, from shopping to renting to finding your way around, etc. It immediately immerses you in spoken Portuguese, but makes it clear there is no need to stress out when you (if you are new to Portuguese) find it difficult to understand at first. The conversations are combined with various exercises that take you through lessons piece by piece and successfully broaden your understanding as you go. While the conversations are designed not to be pedantic, the exercises do include detailed discussions of what is going on in each lesson and include excellent translations, dialog drills, and explanations of grammar and such. That way, Carla and Marlon bring it all together using a very entertaining yet logical approach. Also, in this intensive course they can be contacted for help with questions- I have contacted them multiple times and have always gotten responses. I am pleased to be involved in this course; I'm not a natural at learning languages and yet I can see I am progressing in this environment. I recommend it to others as well.

I have recently started The Journey at Portuguese with Carla. This is not your standard language course. The site is extremely well laid out, the attention to detail is better than you can hope for and the value for money cannot be emphasised enough. With this course you are not just learning the language; Marlon and Carla bring Portugal to you!

There is an immense amount of learning which you will absorb naturally as everything builds on itself over time.

You will not be left to study alone as feedback is quick and there is an obvious care for students in the program.

You can take this course with complete
confidence.

Marlon and Carla.
Both are fantastic
Rest assured you cannot find a better place to learn Portuguese than Portuguese with Carla !
Muito obrigado ! :-)

I'm really enjoying this course - it is so well structured and it's full of humour - doesn't even feel like work, but I'm learning so much. Both Carla and Marlon are native Portuguese so it feels really authentic and they have put so much effort into making this course work - it's brilliant.

At last, I have found a language course that is fun, motivating and gives me the confidence to learn and speak Portuguese!

It has proved to be a language course thoroughly thought-through , personalised and well researched: it is giving me the crucial language skills that allow me to begin reading and speaking Portuguese with fluency.

I'm very relieved I found you Carla!

it's really fantastic! I'm on my trial period, but without any doubts I'll buy the subscription, and I'm excited to get to next chapters. This platform is exactly what I was looking for! Can't wait to learn more:)

PS My Portuguese boyfriend enjoys it as well and keeps telling me that the information that you're passing here is really used in real life. What's more, he's happy cause finally I found someone that can explain to me the things that I was asking him about, and he was not able to explain me in a clear and easy way:)

I've tried various Portuguese language courses, and this one ticks all the boxes for me.
The content is varied and keeps your interest, never becoming a chore, as can sometimes happen with learning. There is an eclectic range of learning materials that are well presented and easy to navigate. The course has been well thought out and put together. It is given the personal touch by the video help and instruction of the course designers and tutors, Carla and Marlon Sabala. Throughout the course they are on hand to give additional support, if required. There are many opportunities within the course to test yourself, if you wish.
There are links to other learning media also available within the course to keep you engaged.
Each day I look forward to logging in and continuing my learning journey into the Portuguese language. I have no hesitation in recommending this excellent course.
