Given the boot with a bogus reason why
I am a well known book designer and was on Reedsy. I had several authors who were happy with my design work and rated me highly. Suddenly, I was told I needed to re-apply to Reedsy and show new work/portfolio. I did and rewrote my biography/pitch. I was told my work was not up to snuff and I would be discontinued on their platform. This confused me, because I honestly looked at other book designers and sincerely—my work was superior. Even when I first applied to Reedsy, the rep told me, "Oh, with your portfolio, you will get a lot of work!" I am assuming maybe an author that I was working with complained about me? But no other reason was given except my work was not up to snuff after I worked with several authors who gave me glowing reviews. I would prefer honest communication rather than some bogus reason.
When you googled my name the Reedsy profile came up first before my own website. When you clicked on the Reedsy site, it said I was 'unavailable.' And then the site leads you to choose other designers.
I have since closed my account but The Reedsy account/profile still comes up first when you google my name. When you click on the link, it says 'oops... we can't find that professional!' Then again, it says maybe these other designers on the Reedsy site can help you. It is as if Reedsy is using MY profile to get work for their other designers.
My own website should come up first. If the account has been closed it should not appear in any google search.
This could prevent me from getting work as people think I am unavailable. I want this FIXED ASAP!
If Reedsy chooses not to use me fine, but my Reedsy website should not come up AT ALL if you google my name. It should be wiped from the internet.
Thanks for listening!

Great Job
It was very easy to post a job as well as select authors and editors to help me with my project. The simple design makes everything easier and take the stress off my plate.
Writing a book? Use Reedsy!
The program is easy to use. They answer the chat immediately. They are proactive if they see you can’t find an editor for your book. It’s refreshing.
Reedsy is an excellent platform
Reedsy is an excellent platform for finding talented publishing professionals. Easy to use, professional, and a great resource for authors at any stage.
Professional, illuminating, instructive
The site interface is easy to use, safe, and reliable. My editor has been absolutely professional, sharing her knowledge, expertise, and experience both in the developmental editing of my written work and during the follow-up video call session. She identified strengths and areas for improvement with care and inspired confidence that has propelled me toward achieving my long-held goal of learning the art and craft of literary non-fiction writing. I look forward to continuing to work with her in a coaching capacity. I highly recommend Reedsy not only for the skill of the editor I found, but for the overall keen, positive approach to support writers in the practice of writing for publication.
I used Reedsy's marketplace to…
I used Reedsy's marketplace to commission cover and interior illustration work for my novel, investing approximately USD 2,500 in the project. The initial process of finding and hiring a designer was smooth, but a subsequent dispute exposed what I think is a real weakness in how Reedsy enforces its own AI-disclosure policy.
Reedsy's Terms of Use require professionals to disclose any use of AI to clients before it's used. In practice, though, when I raised a concern about undisclosed AI use, Reedsy's response was that the professional's own denial was enough to close the matter — no independent check of the actual images was carried out, despite my specific request for one.
I had real grounds for the concern: basic errors in the final files, including my own name misspelled in multiple places, and several independent AI-detection tools consistently flagging the artwork as likely AI-generated, including a comparison test where a different artist's work scored 0% on the same tool. Reedsy also pointed to the fact that I had approved the project and released payment before raising this. That's true, and I don't dispute it — I approved the work in good faith, on the professional's word, the way any client would. It was only once doubts began to form that I looked more closely and ran the checks that led me here. I don't think a client approving work in good faith should mean a platform stops checking afterwards if a genuine concern is later raised.
That, to me, is the core problem. A disclosure policy only has teeth if it's enforced by looking at the work, not by asking the person who may have breached it whether they did. If a professional's denial is treated as sufficient on its own, the policy can't actually catch anyone who chooses not to disclose. Given the amount I had invested in this project, I expected a more thorough investigation before the dispute was closed. No partial refund or negotiated adjustment was offered beyond a courtesy revision already offered directly by the designer.
Without independent enforcement, there's also little to stop a professional charging full hand-crafted rates for work that takes a fraction of the time and effort to produce. That's not just unfair to the client paying for something they didn't get — it undercuts every other professional on the platform who is doing the work honestly and disclosing when they use these tools. A policy that exists on paper but isn't checked in practice doesn't just fail individual clients like me; it rewards exactly the behaviour it's supposed to prevent.
Communication with Reedsy's support was polite throughout, and I don't doubt they were following their standard process. But that process, as I experienced it, resolves disputes procedurally rather than substantively.
Do I personally trust this platform to have further work carried out on it? No, I don't — and that's the honest, practical conclusion I've come to as a result of this experience.
Edit after reply:
Thank you for responding.
For clarity, my concern was never based solely on AI-detection scores. I supplied Reedsy with specific examples from the delivered edit, comparison evidence, and supporting material which I asked to be considered together.
Your response states that an internal review found “no evidence” of AI use, but it does not explain what objective evidence was examined to establish how the editing work was actually produced, nor how the specific examples I submitted were accounted for.
I accept that AI detectors are not conclusive. That is precisely why my complaint did not rely upon them alone.
Readers can therefore make their own assessment of both my review and Reedsy’s response.

Wonderful platform for writers
Wonderful platform for writers and debut writers to elevate their craft!
Reedsy experience was top notch
The experience at Reedsy was reliable, accurate, and collaborative. Working with a highly professional editor was rewarding and informative. Not only was the editing on point, but Sherri was also attentive, helping explain some of her notes and providing invaluable insight. I enjoy working with Reedsy and highly recommend it. There are so many bad sites and scams; it is encouraging to find a reputable one that knows how to help authors.

Reedsy - Great Options for Quality Editors
The website is very easy to use and has many quality editors to look over your work. The process was easy and the edits I received were right on point.
It's been more than a year
It's been more than a year. I published two books and am working on a third. If you are new author, I would strongly urge you to avoid this site. They will damage your career, perhaps beyond repair. I sent them a book of poetry. They sent it to some guy in Greece who has never published anything and didn't understand English poetry. He gave it two-stars. A year later, a half dozen independent critics have reviewed that book. I have never received less than a five-star rating, and the book won a Literary Titan award. In fact, my book of fiction has never received a less five-star rating. The only time as an author, I have ever received fewer than five stars is from Reedsy, whom unlike the other critics, I paid to read to have them read the book. I wish I had never done that. So, save your time, your money, your reputation, and go a different route. Moreover, read some of Reedsy "winners." They are terrible. One of their five star poetry books claimed to be a book of sonnets, except that none of them was written in iambic pentameter, none followed a pattern and most didn't even rhyme. It resembled the ramblings of some drunk writing notes on a counter napkin.
