I'm responding to Wilkins's review…

I'm responding to Wilkins's review which gave three stars.
Reward Angels basically took the money from your elderly mother and then gave it back when you called them out on it.
I'm not sure that merits three stars. It does merit investigation for theft.
This is how scammers operate - it's called social engineering. Personalising their "service" to manipulate.

More than likely another phishing attempt.

Another call out the blue. Starting gambit was a £40 refund from my energy provider (who they were unable to verify) Lots of spiel. Asking for banking info. (I supplied them with fake details) I declined to provide my card number. I did receive an email though.

Another scam attempt against an elderly person

I've just had a telephone call with my very upset mother who has been targeted by these scammers. They say they're taking £299 from her account this week.

She is in her mid 80s and suffers from cognitive impairment and could not have consented to this.

It is plain from the other reports of this firm that they target the aged and infirm to steal their money.

It is despicable, and Trading Standards must investigate their practices.

We are very firm with our sales partners on ensuring that age and vulnerability is checked throughout every sales call, so this should not have happened. Fortunately all calls are recorded which means we can thoroughly investigate this to not only provide a solution for you but also to ensure that it doesn’t happen again in the future.

We’d like to discuss this with you urgently so please could you send an email to us at members@rewardangels.co.uk with your Mums postcode. This will allow us to locate the account and provide an urgent resolution for you.

My poor mum returned from our holiday…

My poor mum returned from her holiday to have a letter on her desk saying that £299.99 is going to be deducted from her account on the 27th of August 2024. She was horrified how come?.. I havnt authorised this .
I rang the number on the letter spoke to a man who said that she had signed up in 20th of July, I said she hasn’t and she is a pensioner and there is no reward for her at 80+ years of age so say this company reward you for holidays ,food ,groceries, my mum would not sign up for that. The scary thing is they had all my mum‘s bank details? so they cancelled the direct debit there and then on the phone. I have no suggested to my mum to go into the bank and tell them and hopefully they can find out or put a block on this company. Reading the reviews on trustpilot it looks like they target , pensioners. What is this world coming to?

How did they get my Mum’s bank details?

Like the other reviewers here, our 83 year old mum has somehow been signed up for this without clearly remembering. The bank have thankfully refunded her money when my sister discovered the agreement letter in mum’s mail. but these people need to be stopped.

Update: after writing this review, Reward Angels have asked for my mother's postcode. Not in a million years would I hand any more of my vulnerable mother's personal data to these people. I have reported them to Action Fraud, the National Fraud and Cybercrime Reporting System. I suggest other reviewers do the same if they can.

Exploiting vulnerable elderly

Targeted my 88 year old relative with dementia.
Luckily I found the direct debit letter before £249.99 was deducted from her account.

Spoke with their customer services who cancelled the direct debit but offered no apology.
It would have been crystal clear to the person extracting her information that she had a cognitive impairment. The telephone sales rep who did this should be sacked.

Absolutely disgusted

Again less than 1 star

Again less than 1 star. Simply disgusted by the treatment we have been shown and the responses we have been given. Our 95 year old mother was ‘duped’ by the “3rd Party” of these people who call themselves Angels. £249.99 was taken from her account and following my 2 complaint emails, they have ‘agreed’ to repay this BUT not until AT LEAST 48 hours has passed. Apparently NO COMPENSATION IS DUE. How can this POSSIBLY be as they will have had the benefit of my mother’s money for well over 2 weeks. We are simply disgusted by the way this company can (seemingly) get away with it. Next email will be to the Ombudsman.

They contacted my 90 year old mother in law and persuaded her to hand over her bank details, then tried to take £249.95 from her account. They should be prosecuted.

A carbon copy of previous reviewers - Scammers

A carbon copy of previous reviewers. Mum received a DD set up confirmation for £249 to Rewards Angels. She is 85 with alzheimers and limited mental capacity. No idea how they managed to get her bank details as us POA's control this aspect . Obviously using dirty tactics over the phone to swindle highly vulnerable people. Shameful.

SCAM - Preying on the elderly …

Reward Angels had set up a direct debit for £249.99 to come out of my mother’s bank account yearly, my mum is 81yrs of age with Alzheimer’s, someone called her pestering about an extended warranty on a domestic appliance and they already had all her bank details!! Luckily as her daughter & Power of Attorney I have stopped the direct debit and both rang (no reply) & emailed Reward Angels as I am passing all information over to the Fraud Investigation Team, I shall be keeping a close eye on her bank account for any future activity..people if you haven’t already got POA for your elderly parents, please do so immediately so your better equipped to deal with low life’s like Reward Angels, who after reading all previous reviews 100% prey on the elderly

Scam - if you are looking after vulnerable relatives, keep an eye on their bank accounts to keep them safe

Subsequent to my earlier review and contact with Reward Angels, I now have a recording of the phone call between them and my mum.

- they said it was a benefit associated with an extended warranty she has. The only extended warranty she has is on a washing machine with curry’s. I have asked them what the extended warranty is for and they can’t tell me. They said they will escalate my query but they have said that before.

- They then said that she qualified for £40 cash back towards broadband and utility bills to support in a cost of living crisis with a 14 day trial of a product called reward angels. They then said it is designed to save you money on range of products and quoted a range of companies, and entry into a competition to win vouchers, and a free night in a hotel, free flight and a stay in a villa.

- when I spoke to them previously, they said that representatives ask if they have capacity to make the decision. They did not ask this in the call. My mum just keeps saying yeah and then hands over her bank details. It is clear that something is wrong.

- I have spoken to a number of the companies they purport to have a relationship with, who have all said that they have NO RELATIONSHIP with reward angels.

These people are criminals. They are also linked to lifestyle perks and leisure lifestyle club, all under the loyalty marketing group, same company number registered with companies house.

Our case is now recorded as a crime through Action Fraud. For anyone else trying to do the same you have to report it as a victim or proxy, and not as a witness.

Edited 2/2/24 - in response to their reply below

A member of the customer service team has not resolved my query. I was sent a phone recording that clearly demonstrates that my mum was taken advantage of and that there was no attempt to determine capacity. I have asked for Reward Angels to contact me regarding this, to explain why they did not determine capacity when it was clear that my mum was extremely vague. Nor have they responded to my request to inform me where they obtained my mums contact details.

The matter is with the police and BBC researchers.

Reward Angels Scammers

As per the other comments elderly parent scammed out of £2.99 twice then £250. Unable to get answers from customer service as to when they will refund and stop this sharp practice of scamming old people. The companies who sign up with them such as Sainsbury, Morrisons, Asda, Clarke and B+Q should think about the reputational damage they are risking allowing their company logos to be used on Reward Angels documentation. They now have 7 days to refund the money otherwise I will be contacting the relevant authorities.

Vile, cowardly criminals

Unsure how the 'humans' running this company can live with themselves. I have no idea what pleasure can be gained from conning elderly, innocent people. Stealing from people who have paid their taxes, worked hard to live and who try to do good in their lives. My 93 year old grandmother received a letter from these animals stating they were going to take £249.95 from her account. Luckily, she has set up an arrangement with her bank to block direct debit unless she gives her consent. Reading the comments, it seems others haven't been so prepared.

To the people who work for this crime unit: shame on you. Let us hope that one day you realise the horrific stress and disgusting swindling you are doing and change your ways. Perhaps your family will be conned out of their hard earned money and this will wake you up. I try not to wish ill on people but you have to be pretty low sewer scum to prey on the innocent. Pretty cowardly really.

Anyway, as I'm sure my review suggests, stay clear of these crooks and continue to spread the word. Shut the F'ers down.

Reward Devils

My elderly aunt received a letter from this company stating that they were about to take £249.95 from her account. She didn't know who they were and was extremely distressed. Her bank have stopped the payment. They phone elderly people and scam their bank account numbers from them. A total disgrace. How do they sleep.

Morally appalling

My elderly mother, who lives, along with dementia, received a phone
call this morning from Reward Angels, saying they were sending her paperwork to join. They seemed to know her name and address. I rang Reward Angels customer service team back, and explained the situation, and they apologised, and said the 14 day free trial was stopped. I am now hoping no money is taken from her account. This is a service my mother does not need or want. If I find out money has been taken, I will go to the financial ombudsman and the police. I have Lasting Power of Attorney for my mother.
Additional info. Trust pilot emailed me on behalf of Reward Angels, saying if I did not add on an order number or my email address, my review would be taken off in 3 days. This is due no doubt to my threatening to take action against Reward Angels. To add to this, Reward Angelstried to take a set up fee of £2.99 from my mother, but this and all future attempts at extracting money from her have been blocked by her bank

£249.99 DD payment taken from a 90 year old

Checking through my mother's correspondence while she is in hospital, I found a Direct Debit confirmation for £249.99 - what is this for? My mother does not own a computer or even a mobile phone so who sold her this and what benefit is it to her? A disgrace to sell to a 90 year old.
