Good idea, terrible customer service

I saw the Roamwild PestOff 3.0 advertised on social media, and although it seemed expensive, I thought it was worth a go. After waiting for a couple of weeks to be in stock, I ordered the option for suet pellets, which is what the songbirds like in my garden.

I was excited for it to arrive, and was determined to get it up straight away to stop the crowd. It was a little fiddly to put together, but managed to do it quite easily.

The feeder has two sides that birds can feed from, and from day 1, the one side of the feeder has got jammed, meaning I have had to manually intervene to unblock it several times a day. I gave it a little while and then contacted the company for guidance.

To start with they asked for a photo 6 feet away and then gave a ‘copy and paste’ paragraph reply about dealing with squirrels. I had not mentioned squirrels, we do not have squirrels, so thought that was bizarre when the issue is the mechanism. They ignored my response to that.

I followed up and chatted with another advisor who told me to clean it. I thought that was strange as it was clean from day 1 - it wasn’t a returned product, but I did this and then responded. No reply when advising it was clearly faulty and wanting a replacement.

Overall it seems that this company are very happy to respond unless you’re looking for a replacement like I am - I do like the product when it’s working - it’s a shame their customer service isn’t prepared to acknowledge that there can be problems with the items. After all, they don’t make them here, they are made in China, and there may be issues with quality control they don’t know about.

Dear Rob

We're sorry to hear you've been having issues with one side of the feeder mechanism. We'd genuinely like to help resolve this.

We'd like to address your point about our customer service. When you first contacted us, asking for a photo of the hanging position is standard practice as it is the most common cause of mechanism issues, we ask every customer this regardless of whether squirrels have been mentioned, as positioning affects how the ports open and close. We're sorry if the squirrel reference in our response felt irrelevant to your situation, it was part of our standard guidance rather than an assumption about your specific garden.

Having read your review, we believe we may have identified what is causing the mechanism to jam. You mention using suet pellets, and we are currently experiencing very hot weather. High temperatures cause the natural fats and oils in suet pellets and dried mealworms to sweat and melt, creating a sticky residue inside the feeder tube that causes feed to clump together and block the mechanism. This affects every feeder on the market in hot conditions, not just ours.

There are a few simple steps that will resolve this, mixing the pellets with sunflower hearts so the dry seed absorbs surface oils and keeps the feed separated, moving the feeder into a shaded spot away from direct sunlight, and only putting out small portions at a time so the feed doesn't sit in the heat long enough to clump. This is almost certainly what you're experiencing and it's a quick fix.

We do want to be clear that if one side of the feeder mechanism is genuinely faulty, we absolutely want to put that right. We would never want a customer to be left with a feeder that isn't working as it should.

Regarding your comments about manufacturing, we'd like to push back respectfully. Our products are designed and engineered in the UK and we have our own production facilities and quality control team in the Far East. Quality control is at the absolute forefront of what we do and we are well known for it, it is one of the reasons we have sold over a million units and won multiple independent awards.

As for being made in China, 99% of the products you use every day cars, phones, appliances, electronics, clothing are either made in China or rely heavily on Chinese components. This is the reality of modern manufacturing across every industry, and it is no reflection on quality. We have looked seriously at UK manufacturing but the cost would put our products out of reach for the vast majority of customers.

We are a proud, established British business and we stand behind our products. Please do reach out and we'll make sure this is sorted for you.

Kind regards,
The Roamwild Team

Terrible Customer service

I asked for two of the plastic anti squirrel rings to be sent out to me as they are clearly not made that well and keep going brittle. I had to fight to get them as I was told to just put on electrical tape! No! I bought the feeder for anti squirrel rings not electrical tape! That will look great won’t it I don’t think! What a hassle getting that off every time you need to clean the feeder! That was weeks ago still no show. Tried phoning again nobody picks up! Dreadful customer service. Sort yourselves out family run company. Not good enough!

Dear Claire

Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear you've had a frustrating experience and we'd like to address a couple of points raised.

When you mentioned difficulty fitting the rings, our team suggested electrical tape as an alternative solution that achieves the same effect, it was a genuine attempt to help rather than a workaround.
We can absolutely see with hindsight that this wasn't the answer you were looking for and we apologise if it came across the wrong way.

Sending out replacement rings is of course something we're always happy to do, and we're sorry the process felt more difficult than it should have. We're also concerned that your replacements still haven't arrived.

Regarding our phone line, as a busy family business our lines can get very busy, and we'd always recommend emailing us directly at hello@roam-wild.com as the fastest and most reliable way to reach us.

Please do so referencing this review and we'll ensure your rings are dispatched to you as a priority.

Techie looking feeder with great glossy…

Techie looking feeder with great glossy marketing that claims to beat the squirrels. I bought two and the squirrels have stayed out but they managed to get the entire feeder off the Shepards hook hanger and the feeder was found on the ground. When I tried to re-assemble I found the cheap plastic tabs on the bottom unit broke clean off. There's no way to fix it, it's dead. Feeder only made it 60 days, a new record for the squirrels. Other big complaint is the small capacity, I have to fill the feeder daily.

Dear Roy

We're sorry to hear about the issue with your feeder.

Regarding the feeder coming off the hook, this points to a couple of things worth checking. Firstly, if a feeder is hung too close to a pole or any surface a squirrel can brace against, they can apply significant leverage trying to reach the seed, which can dislodge the feeder from the hook entirely. We'd recommend at least 45cm (18 inches) of clearance from any nearby surface as per the instructions provided with the feeder, using a sturdy bracket of at least 18 inches in length. Secondly, the feeder coming off the hook itself suggests it wasn't secured tightly enough, using a smaller, tighter hook, or securing the feeder to the hook with wire, will prevent this from happening even under a determined squirrel's efforts.

On the breakage, the plastic tabs you mention are protected by the lower metal baffle collar when correctly fitted. If the tabs have broken, this suggests the collar was not properly seated in place at the time of the incident, leaving the tabs exposed and vulnerable to impact. When the collar is fitted correctly it shields these components and this kind of breakage shouldn't occur even if the feeder is knocked to the ground.

Regarding capacity, we do offer three sizes to suit different needs, a Compact at 1.25 litres, our standard size at 2 litres, and a Mega size at 4 litres for gardens with higher demand. If daily filling isn't ideal for your setup, our 2 litre or Mega feeder would likely suit you much better and significantly reduce how often you need to top it up.

Poor service - don’t use

Replacement lower assemblies purchased as the existing ones spring mechanism had stopped going back up - leaving the feeding chamber open to be emptied by squirrels. 2 replacements delivered - 1 failed after being up for less than a week (roamwilf confirmed from a video it looked like missing a screw) the other is being pulled apart by squirrels - told roam wild they were not fit for purpose and got fobbed off - after much chasing they agreed a refund on one - minus vat and postage - erm your product failed - I shouldn’t be penalised - poor service, poor product - AVOID,

Dear Marie

Sorry to hear this. We'd like to address a few points as this review doesn't accurately reflect what took place.

We did not deduct VAT from your refund, VAT is included in UK retail pricing and is not a separate deduction we apply or withhold. We're not sure where this impression has come from but it is not accurate.

Regarding the two lower assemblies, our team reviewed the video and photos you sent. One unit appeared to be missing a screw holding the perch in place, which is unusual as our quality checks would normally catch this. As a goodwill gesture we refunded this item in full with no need to return it, despite it having been in use for around a week.

On the second unit, our team noted from the images that the components appeared to have been altered or interfered with in a way we don't typically see, which is why we asked some clarifying questions about how the parts were being used and positioned. We always ask these questions as standard when something is unusual, not to assign blame, and we're sorry if this felt like we weren't listening.

We did also explain the importance of correct feeder positioning and using the right feed type to ensure the spring mechanism performs as it should, which is genuinely useful information for getting the best from the product.

We're sorry you've lost confidence in the product after a long period of satisfaction with it, and we wish you well.

Kind regards,
The Roamwild Team

Five star for the idea!

Five star for the idea!
Alas, sadly the more they change the item the more difficult it is for our poor birds to get into the seed. GREEN FINCHES don’t stand a chance. Why make it so difficult? Why not leave it as it was? We didn’t have any spillages at all. So irritating to see the birds struggling.

I’m really disappointed with my…

I’m really disappointed with my experience so far.

I ordered an Airtushi on the Roamwild website for our toddler on the morning of Monday 22nd June for a family holiday departing on Sunday 28th June. I specifically ordered when I did because Roamwild states on its website that orders are dispatched within 48 hours. I also paid extra for Royal Mail 48-hour tracked delivery to make sure it would arrive in plenty of time.

However, as of today (27th June), the item hasn’t even been dispatched.

At no point did I think there would be an issue because I deliberately ordered early enough to meet the timescales advertised on their website. Unfortunately, because those timescales haven’t been honoured, we’re now left without a suitable travel option for our toddler for our holiday.

It’s a real shame, as I was looking forward to using the product. At this stage, I’m seriously considering returning it and purchasing from another company instead, as I don’t want to support businesses that fail to deliver on the commitments they advertise.

Dear Ryan

Thank you for your feedback and we completely understand your frustration given the timing with your family holiday.

We want to reassure you that your order was dispatched from our warehouse on 23rd June, the day after you ordered and well within our stated 48 hour dispatch window. We have confirmation of this at our end. The issue you are experiencing is that Royal Mail have not yet scanned the parcel into their tracking system, which unfortunately does happen on occasion and is entirely outside of our control once the parcel has left our warehouse.

Royal Mail 48 tracked refers to their delivery timeframe once the parcel is scanned into their network, it does not guarantee delivery within 48 hours of your order being placed. We're sorry if this wasn't clear and we completely understand how frustrating this is given your circumstances.

We would always recommend our next day delivery option for time-sensitive orders such as holiday purchases, which gives a greater level of certainty on delivery timescales.

Please do get in touch with us directly and we'll do everything we can to help track this down with Royal Mail as a matter of urgency.

Kind regards,

Dear Shari

Thank you for your feedback and we're sorry to hear the birds haven't made the move across yet, please don't give up on it just yet!

We really do wish you had contacted us as this is something we help customers who have this issue with regularly and we're very confident we can get your birds back.

We'd recommend hanging the PestOff alongside one of your existing feeders rather than replacing them, and letting the old feeder run down without refilling. The birds will naturally transition across once the old feeders are empty. Positioning the feeder near a tree or bush gives the birds a safe retreat while they build confidence, and filling with 100% sunflower hearts is the single best way to attract smaller songbirds quickly.

Our PestOff range has sold over a million units across the UK and USA, has been independently recommended by the Telegraph and has received thousands of five-star reviews. Please do get in touch with us directly, we'd love to help you get this working and we're certain your birds will be back before long.
