Mis-sold funeral plan

I bought a Pear Plan and paid £3155. Safe Hands released £2155 and said they would keep the £1000 for associated costs. I am disgusted. DO NOT USE THEM

Dear Beverley, we do not address customer complaints publicly. Your mother paid £3,155 for her plan. We did not "keep" £1,000. Your mother received a funeral to the value of her plan. Had there been no plan in place, you would have had to pay considerably more than £3,155 organising the funeral yourself. We politely request that you contact us directly, so that we can explain matters to you in a professional way, which means privately.

Alexia Richardson, a big thank you x x x

I would like to say a very heartfelt thank you to you all. I spoke to Deme and Kyle. Truly exceptional service.
I live over in France , which made an already heartbreaking time, even sadder, when Mum passed away.
Safe hands were, kind, understanding, professional, helpful and full of empathy. They worked with Co-op funeral services , and together, provided a beautiful and seamless service for my Mum, Maureen Walmsley.
Thank you, your kindness has been and still is very much appreciated.

I purchased a plan for myself and my…wife

I purchased a plan for myself and my wife about six years ago. Sadly, my wife died recently. The service which I have received from Safe Hands has been excellent. They could not be faulted in any way. I would recommend this company to anyone who is thinking of purchasing a funeral plan.

AVOID - NEVER USE!

I would give this company 0 if it was possible. At a time when I should have been grieving for my Mum I have spent too much time arguing with this company regarding their missold policy.

During the 3 weeks of back and forth, I was told that "I wasn't a priority" which is a direct quote from an email so the denial from the MD displays the integrity of the company. The MD decided it appropriate to wish "much happiness over the coming weeks and months" to someone who had just lot their Mum - totally and utterly insensitive and lacking in any understanding of grief, despite his comment that this was sincere, what it wasn't was appropriate and you would have expected a company operating in this arena to be both aware and sensitive of these types of comments. Complaint has been taken to the FPA (additional monies were offered) and shortly to the FCA. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Dear Sarah,

As you know, we have addressed your complaint privately. However, at no time did we say that you are not a priority. And when we wished you and your family much happiness over the coming weeks and months, our sentiments were heartfelt and sincere. If you took offense, all we can do is apologise and assure you that offending you was the last thing we intended to do.

If there is anything further that you would like to discuss, please contact us directly.

Regards, David Latham.

Excellent service provided

Excellent service provided. The service provided on my loved ones passing was quick and easy to use. As part of their plan, they also provide very helpful legal and practical advice as to how to handle your loved ones affairs after their passing. In particular, I spoke to an advisor by the name of Kyle who l found helpful and efficient in dealing
with a very emotional and difficult situation that arose as a result of the pandemic. I would definitely recommend.

This company offers very poor products…

This company offers very poor products - I cancelled my plan which had accrued to £875 and was deducted a few pence short of £500.
I recieved no policy in writing or electronically when I joined in 2017 following a Cancer diagnoses.
Even though I lost £500, I found far better 'plans' that more than make up for it.
My advice - steer clear.

Dear Mr. Pendle,

You entered into the plan contract in February, 2018. Though you (like all of our customers) had the option to pay for your plan over 1 or 2 years (which would have been 'interest free'), you chose to pay over 120 months (10 years). Where someone pays for their plan over 120 months, their instalments are subject to a 4% flat Handling Charge. The plan contract that you entered into made it clear that, if you cancelled your plan, the Handling Charges you have paid would be non-refundable. We hope that this puts things into clearer perspective, but please don't hesitate to get in contact with us directly, if we can be of further assistance.

My mums funeral plan paid out over £400…

My mums funeral plan paid out over £400 less than she paid on leaving us with a £548 short fall . When I rang to tell them mum had died they told me the funeral directors she had chosen wasn’t one they used , even tho it was on her plan ( I stood my ground and got who we wanted in the end) .
I was told their bereavement team would contact me and offer help ( still waiting 5 weeks later).
The funeral directors said they are not one of the best companies and if you do a plan direct with a funeral director it’s guaranteed to cover the whole cost !

AND NOW YOUR BUISNESS HAS GONE BUST !!! I rest my case ,rip off merchants !!!

Dear Caroline,
Here at Safe Hands, we work with thousands of funeral directors nationally (including 6 in Gloucester where your late mother lived). When your mother purchased her plan, she gave us the name of a funeral director that she wanted to use, if at all possible. The funeral director was not one that had/has a contract with us.
When you mother passed away, in line with the plan contract terms, we contacted your mother’s preferred funeral director and offered them the benefit of your mother’s funeral. In doing so, we offered them the same sum of money that any of our contracted funeral directors locally would receive. Your mother’s preferred funeral director confirmed that they were happy to provide all of the services covered by your mother’s plan, for the sum that we offered to them.
Your mother’s preferred funeral director went on to provide all of the following services/items (these were the services/items covered by your mother’s plan):
• 24 hour collection of your mother
• Provision of a standard coffin with a nameplate
• Care and preparation of your mother
• Chapel of rest viewing
• Consultation with the family regarding the funeral arrangements
• Provision of a hearse and bearers
• Funeral procession travelling from the funeral home to the crematorium, via the family home if required
• Cremation fee
• Doctor’s fee
• Minister’s fee

The extra fees (£548) that you were charged by your mother’s preferred funeral director relates to things that you asked them to provide that were not covered by your mother’s plan. Those items were:
• Newspaper obituaries
• Orders of service
• Floral tribute

Your mother purchased her plan in 2016, for £3,155. According to the Sun Life Cost of Dying Report, the average cost of a funeral, of a specification equivalent to your late mother’s plan, today, is roughly £4,400. So, by virtue of the fact your late mother paid just £3,155 for her plan, means she effectively saved £1,245 against what you would on average have paid, had there been no plan in place. Furthermore, whilst it is sadly the case that your mother passed away just 4 years after purchasing her plan, no matter how long she might otherwise have lived, there would never have been anything further for you to pay towards the services covered by the plan.
To conclude, the only reason why you have had to pay additional fees is because you asked the funeral director to provide services that were not covered by the plan.
If you would like to discuss this matter further, please contact David Latham, on 0800 917 7099.

Our experience of Safe Hands Funeral Plan

My mother-in-law passed away on Saturday evening May 23rd. I rang the phone number for Safe Hands and spoke to someone who assured me that I would receive a phone call within one hour.
In less than the hour I was contacted by a lady called Deme Johnson.she was really helpful, kind and sympathetic in taking Mums details regarding plan number, plan details and address.she also provided details of a local funeral director who would be dealing with everything.
I less than an hour Jerry from Overmass and Chapple contacted us to confirm that he was on his way to pick up Mum to take her to his chapel of rest.
As it was bank holiday Jerry said that he would contact us on the Tuesday to confirm details.
On the Tuesday he duly got in touch to say that he had organised a doctor to issue a death certificate,as well as registering the death with the registration officer.
He also confirmed a day and time for the funeral.arranged for mums ashes to be collected and recommended a florist and celebrate to handle the funeral.
On the day of the funeral everything went smoothly with extreme consideration and dignity.
As a result of all this.,my wife and I would have no hesitation in recommending Safe Hands Funeral Plans as well as the services of Overmass and Chapple Funeral Directors.
Michael and Hazel Hughes.

in Safe hands

My Mother passed on a Friday I contacted Safe Hands on Saturday morning. The operator that took my call informed me that someone would return my call within the hour. This was not the case, as it was weekend. The return call was made during normal office hours on Monday morning. The person was very professional and helpful and talked me through the steps towards the Funeral. The Funeral was arranged through a Moores Funeral Directors in Waterlooville. Moores were also very helpful and answered all my queries. And even in these extreme circumstances (covid-19) gave my Mother the best send off possible. I would recommend Safe Hands & Moores Funeral Directors.

Late double review for good service

Somewhat of a late double review for Safehands, who took care of my dear departed Mother's funeral back in October 2016, and my dear departed Fathers funeral back in November 2018. I had taken out Safe Hands double Sapphire Funeral Plan for my parents back in May of 2016. Both funerals were conducted by O'Dwyers of Ealing as the funeral directors and cremations took place at the Mortlake Crematorium and Hanworth Crematorium respectively. I reached SafeHands on the 0800 number and all was handled courteously and professionally. These were Hindu funerals where the deceased are taken to the family home before the crematorium. O'Dwyers of Ealing were very respectful of the religious traditions.

My recent decision to employ "SAFE-HANDS"

My recent decision to employ "SAFE - HANDS" to deal with my future departure on the day of reckoning. I was delighted that this company dealt with my application with respect. It was encouraging to find this West Yorkshire based company near to my home address.
The documentation was completed in full over a 7 day period offering full documentation with the minimum of fuss.

Safe Hands were excellent in setting up the funeral for my Mum Ushaben Narotham all the way through and follow-up, very experienced with dealing with traumatised family, very kind. They went through a local company Kanes Funeral services in Manchester. Michelle of Kanes was excellent in dealing with the concerns if the family and thoughtful when i didn't know what to do. Thanks.

Appreciation for services provided

My thanks to O'Dwyers of Ealing who conducted my dear departed wife's Sikh funeral. At such an emotional time it was settling to deal with professional and caring directors who showed religious courteous at all times.  Safe Hands, thank you for making this possible, with all funeral costs being paid in full as agreed in my wife's Sapphire Funeral Plan.  There were some additional charges for extras that were not originally included in the plan. Having relatives over from the US, Canada, and India, it was decided to order a second limousine, additional flowers, and an additional stop at our nominated Gurdwara. Overall, I can say that taking out the double plans for my wife and myself was a very good decision and really helped at a time of need. Amolak Singh Grewal (Hounslow, Middx)
