From start to finish

From start to finish, Ami was professional, responsive, and very helpful. She communicated clearly at every step, answered all my questions promptly, and made the refinancing process smooth and stress-free. Everything was handled efficiently, with no surprises along the way. I would absolutely recommend working with Ami and Sage to anyone considering a refinance.

WORST closing…

To the Executive Team at Sage Home Loans,

I am writing this to formally document the catastrophic failure of Sage Home Loans to execute a standard mortgage closing, resulting in significant documented financial damages. As an experienced real estate investor with nine successful prior mortgage closings, I have never encountered this level of professional incompetence.
1. Breach of Commitment & Timeline Failure
Sage Home Loans provided a firm commitment to close this loan on December 28, 2025. Despite having all necessary documentation in your possession, your staff failed to meet this deadline. The closing was delayed by four days due to internal disorganization. On the scheduled closing day, your team was visibly scrambling, requesting documents that had already been uploaded and confirmed weeks prior.
2. Material Financial Hardship: Tax Impairment
This delay was not merely an inconvenience; it was a significant financial blow. By failing to close on 12/28/25, Sage Home Loans prevented the "placing in service" of this asset within the 2025 tax year. Consequently, I have been stripped of the ability to claim accelerated depreciation against my 2025 tax liabilities.
This delay has resulted in a direct, five-figure tax impact that cannot be mitigated in the 2026 cycle. I fully expect Sage Home Loans to honor the financial promises made regarding closing credits and to provide a proposal for further indemnification regarding the losses caused by your missed deadline.
3. Systematic Communication Breakdown
Your "proactive" service model is non-existent. My experience was characterized by:
• Redundant Requests: Repeatedly asking for data already in the portal.
• Reactive Posture: My team had to initiate every status update; your loan officers provided zero transparency as the deadline approached.
• Administrative Failure: A total lack of coordination between processing and underwriting during the final 48-hour window.
4. Partner Referral Escalation
I chose Sage Home Loans based on a referral from Robinhood. Given the gravity of this experience, I will be reaching out directly to my contact within the Robinhood Executive Team to discuss the reputational risk Sage poses to their platform. Robinhood prides itself on seamless, tech-forward user experiences; the manual, disorganized, and costly service provided by Sage is a direct contradiction to those values.
Required Next Steps
I expect a response from a senior executive at Sage Home Loans within 24 hours. I am seeking a specific resolution regarding the "promised money" mentioned in our previous correspondence and a formal explanation as to why your internal systems failed so spectacularly at the eleventh hour.
I trust this will be escalated to the appropriate level of authority immediately.

Reasonably abysmal

About the only thing that was good about Sage was the rate. The service, engagement, ability to communicate - just about everything (appraisal, closing, etc) was the worst I’ve interacted with across several loans.

Great experience from start to finish

Laura Soderberg reached out immediately after I submitted an inquiry. She was extremely thorough, listened to understand my situation and helped me from start to finish to ensure I got the best rate, closing costs and support to get to my closing date within an expedited timeframe. I would absolutely use Sage again in the future, and would love to work with Laura again.

Avoid Sage Home Loans / WesLend / Lenox…

Avoid Sage Home Loans / WesLend / Lenox Financial at all costs! They tried to bait & switch when we first refinanced by offering no closing costs, but when we received the paperwork they snuck in all kinds closing costs, hidden throughout the contract. When I questioned the costs they became very aggressive and condescending, which was clearly because they assumed a woman wouldn’t be smart enough to catch their shady practices as their demeanor was much more respectful when they were dealing with my husband. After we finally completed the refi well after the promised time frame, they ran my credit again without my approval and harassed me for months to refinance again so they could sell my loan. They’re definitely up to something shady, as the company name has changed from Lenox Financial / WesLend Financial to Sage Home Loans to God knows what now, and have moved their corporate headquarters to various states multiple times over the past 5 years. They also sent a letter a couple of years ago asking for my signature to change handling of the records of my account but also indicating they had no record of my loan. They offered no further explanation aside from harassing letters and recorded calls, but offered me no way to talk to someone about it. Then I received a letter notifying me that my loan had been sold to a new servicer, with no call or explanation, not even a final statement recording the final balance that was transferred to the new servicer. When we called Sage inquiring about the transaction & requesting a final balance, they couldn’t find any record of our loan. The person we spoke to said they would look into it and call us back by end day of day, but we never heard back. They change their websites with each name change as well, and make you use a bizarre portal, making it really difficult to keep track of your loan information. Absolutely horrible experience, they should be investigated!

Re-fi - professional, non-aggressive sales

For starters, I appreciate that Sage has information available online regarding different rate options without having to go through dozens of phone calls and emails. I worked with Paul Grady at Sage Home Loans on a refinance, and I couldn’t be more impressed with the experience. From the beginning, Paul was incredibly helpful, communicative, and responsive. Even when I initially decided to go a different direction, he was never pushy and he simply asked if he could check in from time to time in case he found me a better loan option.

I really appreciated that he relied on facts and clear information rather than pressure or sales tactics. And sure enough, he later reached out with a better offer. Even if the offer had been the same as the one I was planning on, I would have switched to Paul because the vibes were just better and I didn't feel intimidated or pressured like I did with several of the other companies that I reached out to when I started this process.

Paul’s professionalism, honesty, and genuine commitment to helping his clients stand out. His team was also great to work with. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a loan!

I had an excellent experience working with Paul Grady.

I had an excellent experience working with Paul Grady on my refinance at Sage. From start to finish, Paul was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and responsive. He took the time to explain every step of the process clearly, making sure I fully understood my options and felt comfortable with each decision.

What stood out most was how easy and stress-free he made the entire experience. Paul went above and beyond to ensure everything stayed on track and was always available to answer my questions, no matter how small.

I’m very grateful for his professionalism and support — I highly recommend Paul Grady and the Sage team to anyone considering a refinance or mortgage.

Good rates and great people

I worked with Laura Soderberg at Sage Home Loans to get my mortgage, and she was incredible to work with. So many times I had questions or issues, and she was able to help every time. Everyone on the Sage team was responsive and helped me get a great rate as well. I highly recommend!

Best MLO Experience

Sunny was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, very responsive and helpful even on Holidays, if working with this lender, make sure to ask for her, if you get assigned to someone else call them and request Sunny Medrano works on your file.

First time home buyer here and she made me feel secure every step of the way

Zero customer service; impossible to get in contact with.

I tried applying online with Sage Home Loans over a month ago (13Sep25) & have yet to be able to figure out how to contact anyone there (21Oct25). I've tried phone numbers I find online, but no one ever answers. I uploaded all requested documents over 4 weeks ago & it says the next step is to talk with my loan officer, but I can't (for the life of me) find out how to make that happen! I try to connect online, but always get the message that no one is available at this time. Some of the fields that are required to fill out on their site when trying to connect with a loan officer are blank, unlabeled fields... I finally figured out that they are for our name. Website is trash. Doesn't work right. It shouldn't be this hard. I thought we would've closed a couple weeks ago. I'm done trying. Called my old broker last night. He always treated us right. Should've went with him in the first place.

Fantastic Customer Service and Employees

Matt Scheppmann especially but every person I worked with was extremely nice, responsive and proactive in helping me to handle every aspect of getting my loan from preapproval to closing. Every person involved in the process including the realtors and closing company also commented on how great the experience was and on top of that the rates were extremely competitive in the current market. I will and have recommended Sage to other friends and family because of how easy and seamless this process was.

Paul was excellent

Paul was outstanding and helped us get through all of the steps for a refinance with Sage. In past experiences, after the initial conversations I've always been handed off to the processor early in the process, never to hear from the officer again. In the case with Paul, even after this handoff he was regularly checking in with me to make sure everything was moving along as expected. If given the opportunity, I highly recommend working with Paul on mortgage financing!

We recently refinanced our home with…

We recently refinanced our home with Paul Grady, and the experience was absolutely exceptional from start to finish. Paul helped us move out of an adjustable-rate mortgage and into a new loan at an incredibly low rate — something we didn’t think would be possible in today’s market.

What really stood out was Paul’s thoughtful, educational approach. He guided us through every step of the process with the heart of a teacher, making sure we fully understood our options and felt confident in each decision. His professionalism, patience, and clear communication made what could have been a stressful process feel effortless.
