I began learning Welsh during lockdown in November 2021 shortly after retiring. In Germany, our second lockdown lasted around 6 months and SSiW gave me a sense of connection and purpose and, as time went on, achievement. I did the DuoLingo Welsh course simultaneously but it is the SSiW course that gets you speaking. I recently finished both courses. I still need lots of practice but I have the basics and can construct sentences that work. I would love to see the SSiW method applied to learning all languages from English! If this were a standard method of teaching languages at an introductory level, a lot more British school children could have a basic linguistic framework for say, French, Spanish or German in a short time and be enjoying the experience and be keen to learn more. Britons might then lose their dreadful global reputation for being monoglots!

This has blown my mind. How much I am able to say since I started 19 days ago is astounding! I do more than one lesson a week, in chunks..the method is amazing. On Level 12-I am hooked. Already having short conversations with natives. Never in my LIFE did I think I could ever learn Welsh. Worth every penny.

A superb language learning technique.
Although a fluent Welsh speaker (2nd language) I found it helped me to sound more natural when speaking and helped with my confidence to speak to Welsh speakers I know and strangers in Welsh speaking situations.
I'm presently learning Spanish with them too. The method of repeating what you hear and then following prompts in English to spontaneously create new phrases and sentences really cements your newly acquired language skills in your brain.
Can't be too effusive about how good i think this company, it's website and it's apps are.

Great experience. It really puts your mind to the test but I've learnt so much in such a short time.

I know something of psychology/learning theory and either these guys have done their homework thoroughly or they have intuitively hit upon a great model. I suspect the former.

I’m subscribed to the 6 minutes a day Welsh course which costs 10£ a month. You can choose a North or South course, I’m doing North

The app is easy to navigate, the audio is clear and there is lots of kind encouragement during the lessons. I think you can read the most important stuff about the method, how the course is structured and so on on the ssiw website.

The weekly emails with the course are a nice motivation. The extra tasks don’t feel like a huge load of homework and you can go on without doing them as well. This said, SsiW does have a way of making you do things haha, I think if not for these emails I wouldn’t have started actually practicing speaking with someone. It took me a while to get used to this way of learning, but when in doubt I had always someone cheering me on on the forum.

Maybe that’s really the best part about SsiW: the wonderful community of learners connected through the forum, slack, online sessions or meet ups. You will always find someone to very patiently explain grammar, send heartfelt encouragement in times of “oh my god my brain is melting” or to partner up on speaking practice.

Of course you’ve got to put in effort (I do curse a lot during lessons) but it feels like very quick progress. And through the community it’s progress you can share and actually put to use, even if you don’t live in a place where Welsh is spoken.

Really enjoyed the Say Something in Welsh course. Really helped me to start speaking Welsh.

Brilliant way to learn Welsh! I’ve done Duolingo but find the Say Something feels like ‘real’Welsh as it concentrates on sentences and phrases. This enables you to have more natural conversations. I reached level 2 in England and have now moved to Wales. I have had Welsh speakers comment on how much Welsh I know… even though I still need to practice a lot more😂You need to persevere with it as it’s really challenging at first!

On my second week now learning, feels like my brain is going to melt but after a few plays it just seems to click and you start being able to say and string together the sentences without realising. Definitely worth the monthly subscription, give it a try!

I can't thank ssiw enough for their course. I like grammar and was a bit skeptical at first of a method that didn't cover any grammar but after the first lesson I was hooked. I learned Welsh for about 18 months with them, working through the new and the old course, by which time I registered on an advance level course. I could never have imagined when I started, that I would come so far in so little time. The support from the online chats is invaluable and helps it all come together. I still go over the more advanced lessons every week while out walking to keep me speaking. I am itching to refresh my Spanish as I know now how quick the progress will be, but I don't want to set my Welsh back! Anyone considering this course should just go for it. Trust the method, you won't regret it!

I did the Welsh course three years ago and loved the community and the fact that the course helped me become a genuine Welsh speaker without ever having been to Wales. One more thing became apparent a bit later: my Welsh didn't go anywhere even after a prolonged Covid-related break!

This is why I came back to SaySomethingIn when I needed to learn Spanish. I usually struggle to actually start speaking a new language but not with this method. It allows to learn a language more naturally without focusing on grammar so that I was using the correct structures from the very beginning without thinking about it at all. When I think I can guess a grammar rule, I look it up and continue to use it but never need to think about it because it's something learned from experience and not from books.

I've put in a lot of time and finished the Say Something In Spanish course in three months, practicing with the teacher twice a week, doing all the fun homework and watching Spanish TV on the side. I still have a lot to learn but now I'm able to have really cool fluent conversations with native speakers about the things we love and I can't even begin to say how happy it makes me.

Used Say something In Welsh for about 2 years now, and in my opinion I can't fault it, value for money it's brilliant for learning Welsh, you get a weekly email with your sound recorded lesson which you listen to, you also get a little weekly challenge, there are 3 different levels 1,2 and 3 each level has 25 lessons which lasts for about 30 minutes, also you get access to live Q&A and live chats for different levels, the tutors are very friendly and helpful and there are loads of people who you can have chats with at different levels, for £10 a month i think it's brilliant

Such an incredible course. It isn't easy and at points seems almost impossible, but the support available is outstanding and really helps to get you through. My Welsh is in such a better place than I could have imagined already. If you have the desire, then SSiW has everything you need to get you there.

After trying some other courses, I found Say Something in Welsh. It's a wonderful way of teaching/learning. Clear, with full explanation, repetition at appropriate intervals to a) build your skills, b) give practice and reinforcement, c)lull you out of complacency, should you think you know it all. I love it.

SSiW is about exactly what it says – speaking Welsh. You are able to construct simple sentences from the very first lesson, and are encouraged to put these into use with other beginners from day one. No need to worry about being perfectionist or making mistakes – SSi in fact encourages you to make as many mistakes as possible as part of the learning process.

Although SSi is based on a commonsense method of learning – the way in fact most individuals learn a language as they grow up – the fact that this is not traditionally how languages have been taught in an educational context makes SSi quite revolutionary. My experiences many decades ago of French and German at A level, most of it grammar or translating literary texts, together with having lived in England most of my adult life, made me think that my chances of learning Welsh had long passed me by. Till I discovered SSiW, that is. Having finished the course some while ago, while I still make many mistakes, they are fewer than before and I’m astonished at the range of subjects I can discuss in Welsh nowadays, almost nothing is out of bounds (though understanding other more fluent speakers is still something I have to work at).

Once you’ve done the SSiW course, doing other more formal Dysgu Cymraeg courses becomes more meaningful as you’re able to build on your speaking ability and slot various patterns into your learning to date – rather than the traditional, tiresome methods of learning by rote. And SSi seems to have had a knock-on effect on the teaching of Welsh more generally, which has become more user-friendly in response.

After trying the introduction unit I knew immediately this method suited my style of learning. After completing other courses this strengthened my understanding and extended the range of patterns. The only negative is that some of the sentences I would never use but I rate the method. The online meetings are a great way to practice the patterns learnt in a relaxed and friendly environment. SSiW is a fantastic course, with materials that are geared to get you SPEAKING the language from day one.
Not only that, it signposts you into a whole supportive community of language-learners of all abilities.
It should come with a warning though - "this course may change your life!"

If you are serious about learning Welsh this is the only way to go. Yes you can do formal lessons later to pick up the grammar but this course will without doubt turn you into a Welsh speaker. It is challenging and frustrating but keep at it and you will be able to communicate in Welsh quickly. It will change your life.

This course is the real deal. The methodology is innovative, challenging and fun. The online conversation sessions are helpful and supportive. The online community is lovely. I was amazed at how quickly I was able to speak to quite a high standard, and have made some wonderful friends through learning Welsh. It has been life enriching, and would be a bargain at twice the price. In sum, I really can't recommend the course highly enough!
