Chase up every step of the claim!

We had a medical event that required urgent hospitalisation. Southern Cross call center were awesome, polite and tried to be helpful. They were let down by the support team.

If you make a claim, make sure you call them constantly to get action. Examples include, the did not reach out to the GP and hospitals to get medical information - after 12 hours I called, and then the emails were sent to both parties, delaying medical treatment and approval of the claim. We sent several emails to advise that change of flights had to be done by 2pm, I call 1 hour past this and flights had not been actioned. We were at the airline counter and the airline could not let us board as no medical clearance had been provided. Southern Cross medical, had to approve the flights and travel but did not inform the airline, and were not available at our flight time. The local hospital did spoke directly with the airline. The claim was an administrative nightmare with very poor systems to get information. We also did not get responses to our emails, follow up phone calls were always required.

If you make a claim or need urgent medical assistance, call them every step of the way.

Cruising retirees

Southern Cross offered insurance to both my husband and I even in light of my husbands emerging health issues. We were thankful for the cover and sense of security it offered should anything go wrong on our cruise. They were also the most competitive price wise.

Long wait time when trying to claim

Had to log a claim for damaged luggage during my airline travel, waited 2 + weeks and yet to receive even a claim number or acknowledgement from southern cross.

Pre existing condition

I was worried about a pre existing condition, I know it's not affecting my health but didn't want a potential claim turned down if I didn't declare it, but I was concerned about the effect on my premium it would have if I did declare it. I needn't have worried, after ringing southern cross they put all my fears to rest. After declaring my pre existing condition and electing not to have it covered it had zero effect on my premium.
I highly recommend Southern cross medical travel insurance.
