While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more

SettleProbate is an online tool that helps people in England and Wales handle probate themselves, without paying a solicitor thousands of pounds to do it for them. When someone dies, the person sorting out their estate (the executor) usually has to apply for a grant of probate before they can deal with bank accounts, sell property or pass anything on to the family. It is a slow process with a lot of small steps, and most people are doing it for the first time while they are also grieving. That is who we built this for. We are not a law firm and we are not regulated by the SRA, and we do not give legal advice. What we give you is a clear, ordered place to work through the probate process, so you know what to do first, what comes next, and what you cannot afford to miss. You start with a free assessment that tells you whether probate is even needed in your case and what your estate involves. After that, the workspace takes you through the admin one step at a time. People use us instead of a solicitor for two reasons: cost and control. A solicitor can charge well over a thousand pounds even for a straightforward estate. For most simple estates you can do the same work yourself with the right guidance, and keep that money in the estate where it belongs. We try to be straight about what we are and what we are not. If your situation is complicated, with inheritance tax, property abroad or a family dispute, we will tell you to get a professional involved rather than pretend a tool is enough.
