Chilean Journey is the MOST Caring & Responsible in Sickness & Health
With this excursion we had Alwin, our Primary Tour Guide, and Lucas, Alwin's 2nd hand man , who held up the rear to make sure no one got separated from the group. As a 67 yr old woman, I felt very secure with these two gentlemen..
They both went above and beyond their job descriptions for one of our fellow travelers.
One of the ladies got food poisoning (1 of 2 cases that I know of) on Oceania Cruises. She is a diabetic whom had suffered with everything (for 4 days) that comes with food poisoning. Her vitals we way off.
She had not recovered by the time the cruise ended, on December 21, 2025. She needed serious medical attention. Oceania had transported her to the local Emergency Room (ER) in Santiago Chili on December 20, who per Alwin, releases anyone who isn't on their death bed. It seems they "assumed" she was more stable than she actually was. Back to the ship she went the same night, by
In my opinion, Oceania neglected to make sure she was in better health before they sent her on her way. They did nothing to help her get to the meeting point of the excursion we had booked privately. Not even an offer to use one of their wheelchairs. No-one who did not have a letter from a Doctor stating they needed a wheelchair to get around was allowed to use one of the ships wheelchairs. Side note: We befriended a lovely 84 year old gentleman who could barely walk to the main dining room for dinner and back to his cabin without limping, with the aide of a cane! He was in allot of obvious discomfort with a bad hip and a bad knee! Thank the Good Lord for one of the supervisors in the main dining room, who obtained one for us so he could get to the show on the main stage that night! Otherwise the gentleman would have only seen the hallway, elevator and the piano bar, where we played Trivia, and his cabin the entire 22 days! In my opinion, there are some Heartless people who run Oceania cruise line! I will be submitting a review to Oceania too!
The unwell lady is a Senior Citizen, in her 70s. She was very near to collapsing when she finally tried to get off the tour coach to get something to eat for lunch. She was so weak she could not walk on her own. If she didn't have Lucas on her right & myself on her left her legs would have buckled, sending her to the sidewalk. She needed help from the steps of the coach & help to step up a curb to be able to prop her on a post, the closest thing to sit on. Lucas ran, literally ran, to a nearby shop to buy her a package of Oreo cookies, thinking her blood sugar war too low, since she is diabetic. If her friend & travel Companion & I were not there to support her she would have fallen to the ground. Her vitals were that low!
As soon a Alwin was informed of the situation he RUSHED to her side, contacted his office and had another nice young man come to pick her, her friend and Lucas, up to take her to the local private clinic to be treated. Lucas stayed with them while the Doctors consult about what type of treatment she needed. They initially believed she needed a pace maker to be implanted that very night! Thank goodness she did not need any type of surgery.
Lucas relayed messages to Alwin about her condition throughout the remainder of the day. Alwin stayed in communication with the clinic staff the entire time she was hospitalized, which was 3 to 4 days. She spent Christmas in the clinics hospital.
Alwin is such a kind-hearted man, he took small gifts for both ladies, since they were so far away from their families (in America) for Christmas. WELL ABOVE and BEYOND the call of duty!
The tour itself was very well organized, with a very comfortable coach/bus to get us to the different sites. Our final stop was the airport. I have a hearing impairment, so I have difficulty hearing what most tour guides say. Chilean Journey's sound system worked beautifully! I could hear & understand every word Alwin said. I really appreciate being able to hear about the history of each site we visited. Being able to clearly hear the tour guide talk makes a huge difference in any & all excursions!
Santiago, Chili is a BEAUTIFUL city with so much to see & experience! I hope to return one day for a longer holiday/vacation to be able to see & experience even more of Santiago, and more of Chili itself!
In summary a conscientious tour guide who takes the time out of his life to continue, still to this day, check in on someone who had been ill on one of his tours AND takes them a Christmas gift, PRICELESS! I would take a tour with Alwin's company, Chilean Journey, ANYTIME, knowing that would be WELL looked after & taken care of!

I thought I had booked an excursion a week earlier, but never received confirmation. I had to re-book a different excursion, but it wasn't much different, but a little less in price. I do believe it's for the same location, with a different name, that I went to 17 years ago on my first and only other cruise.

We booked this outside of Royal Carribbean Star of the Seas, which docks at the Coxen Hole port. This port small and has a short, but slightly confusing pathway to the meeting spot. But people were friendly and guided us to the man with the Christopher Tours sign. We were told to get there 1 hour after docking, yet when we arrived they said we were late. No matter, they had our name and had a second driver waiting for us. Although, my guess is that if two ships come to port at different times it creates a difference in arrival. Also, it seems that they are prepared to whisk you away if you come right away off the ship. The van was comfortable with AC after walking about 1-2 blocks through the crowds of town outside the port. Our driver, Robert, took the time to point out all the buildings around the towns we passed through and provided plenty of history about the island. He knew a lot and was happy to answer questions. Our first stop was the animal sanctuary which let you hold guinea pigs and two large birds, as well as let monkeys jump on your head/body. You can pet the sloths and let them wrap around you, but you can't hold them in your arms. The sloth female was really interested in wrapping around me. The monkeys are mischievous and like to reach in your pockets and jump on your head, which is fun. We spent about 1 hour here. They have locals selling some food and fruit if you bring cash. Then to awesome ziplining where we stayed for about 1 hour without lines. Some lines we rode solo and others in tandem. Sometimes tandem with staff just to ensure we made it to the other side. My age 9 and 12 kids loved it and the views of the canopy were lovely. Snorkeling came next soon after. They provided fried whole fish, fried chicken, or garlic shrimp options with coconut rice and plantain chips after you got back from the boat. Bring cash for drinks or any other food from the menu + tips for the snorkel guys. Snorkeling was great. The lead guy pointed out a stingray hiding in the sand, helped us hold conch shells and starfish, and helped my youngest with her mask and back to the boat early. The mask, snorkel and fins were in good shape but the mask doesn't really fit a kid face, so consider bringing your own for kids. The variety of fish was very good. It took about 30 min to get back to the cruise port with less traffic upon our return than we saw on the way out. However, we're told that this side of the island has less crowds than the other side for all activities. We made it back to the boat by 3p after starting at 10:30a. If you get worried about time, you can skip the included meal and eat on your ship.

The excursions was longer than 3.5 hours it was fun. We didn't have any time to check out the island since the excursion took up all our time. This excursion took 5 hours. We had to go back on our ship right after. My husband was really mad about this. I guess David the guy running your excursion had to move things around due to people being late from another group. Which pushed the time for our group to go later in the day. He moved our excursion to going on the bottomless boat last. We were supposed to go on it first, then do the rest of the things after (Ex shopping, the Glass blowing shop and the Tequila business).
