Warning – Extremely agressive damage claim experience
We rented a vehicle from Simba Car Rental Australia through DiscoverCars. Upon returning the car, we were kept waiting for approximately 30 minutes while staff thoroughly searched for damage. Eventually, they pointed out almost invisible marks on the windscreen that we were certain we had not caused. Because the marks were barely visible, we did not have them documented in our return photos.
Despite the minimal and questionable nature of the alleged damage, more than AUD 5,500 was immediately withheld. The claim process took over two months to be finalized, and we ultimately had to submit the entire case to our third-party insurer (DiscoverCars) to seek reimbursement. This caused significant stress, uncertainty, and administrative burden.
The overall handling of the situation felt highly unpleasant. The inspection process appeared focused on identifying chargeable damage, particularly for customers who had not taken insurance directly with Simba. The interaction at drop-off was uncomfortable, and we were kept for an excessive amount of time.
Based on this experience, we cannot recommend Simba Car Rental Australia.

Ease of communication. Trisha in the office was attentive and helpful. Everything that was required of me was clearly explained. The car we hired was perfect for us. Transport between the airport and Simbas office was easy.

The customer service when I arrived to pick up the car was just excellent. They helped me out to explain that purchasing insurance directly through them which wasnt that much, for my 2 week hire would allow me to be fully covered which just took the stress I had about car hire away completely. The shuttle bus service they have is also just super convenient, I was able to drop the car off after my 2 week stay and shortly after a quick shuttle bus transfer straight to the domestic terminal. Ill be using Simba next time i come up to cairns, thanks guys !!
Laughed at by employees when in distress. No manager
I got a interstate flight and arrived at Brisbane Airport when the shuttle bus took me to Simba car hire I was met with a refusal of getting a car because my drivers license was in 150 km of the depot so therefore I needed bills in order to show them that I was not a theft risk.
I was quite upset as I was not told that I needed to bring bills in order to rent a car in which I’ve rented numerous times before, but that wasn’t the problem.
The problem was the customer service. Two men of Indian appearance could not help but smirk and LAUGH at the fact that I was crying and shaking being stranded at an interstate airport.
They refused to help me and they said that they would not be renting me a car when I asked to speak to a manager or a supervisor they said “ they didn’t have one” not only was the English barrier difficult but the fact that these two men thought it was funny that I was stranded and left out in the rain was the most disgusting and inappropriate customer service I have ever experienced in my life.
I tried to get any form of eye contact from the three men behind the customer service counter. All three of them refused to look at me, put their head down in the computer and would not help me. I felt like I was in the twilight zone
I would suggest that any female that decides to rent through this company goes in there with a man so they are not treated so terribly by being laughed at when they are clearly distressed.
This is an issue that needs to be taken up with an ombudsman, and the fact that there is no supervisor there to escalate.
Unfortunately, none of them are wearing name tags so I cannot tell you their names, which is a shame, but also the fact that they probably wouldn’t want to be identified online

Service was fantastic. I can't recall the name of the customer service rep (he had reddish hair and also did maintenance), but he should honestly consider a career in acting, he was such a character. Really friendly and easy to deal with.

Worse Rental Company in Cairns
Told different opening time for Cairns Office. Tried to book pickup voicemail full can't leave a message had to ge Uber. Arrived only one staff member other Clients also trying to drop off car and also told wrong opening times. They also had to book Uber. Office Staff nice and helpful but terrible Simba Management. Would never use again and would tell others to avoid. When I dropped off car they tried to charge me petrol from a faculty fuel gauge. I had to wait 40mins to be taken to the Airport an almost missed my flight. Terrible and stressful experience 0/10 rating. 😡😡
