Neglect of animals
I visited on 19th April and was extremely concerned about the conditions in which the animals were kept. All of the creatures in the reptile house had plastic plants in their tanks. Why not real plants? There were dead fish in the Cayman pool. Both the birds and the butterfly enclosures had very little drinking water. There were a lot of old cobwebs in the butterfly enclosure. My daughter managed to free two butterflies from a web, one was long dead but she managed to save the other. Surely in an enclosure containing tropical butterflies it is necessary to clean the walls and roof space to prevent this from happening? These cobwebs were not fresh. The Moray eel in the aquarium didn’t appear to have enough space. The penguins didn’t have enough water to swim. I found this visit depressing and worrying and am concerned about the apparent neglect of these creatures.
