My personal experience with Squidders…

My personal experience with Squidders Bait and Tackle + Squidders Lodge

I rented Squidders Lodge for a weekend, for some friends that were coming into town. We had planned it months in advance. On the day of check-in, the lodge smelled damp and moldy, plus it also smelled like rotting fish. It seems the refrigerator stopped working earlier that week, and it had some leftover food still in it from previous guests. That's where the smell of rotting fish came from. They replaced the old refrigerator with a dorm-sized model that wouldn't hold much. The building is old concrete that's been flooded multiple times, which I supppse is where the damp and moldy smell comes from.

What food could not be put into the refrigerator got partially eaten by rats. I wish now I had taken photos.

The television remote control was missing, so my guests could not watch TV at all, all weekend.

Squidders Bar next door in the same building was fun at first, but it quickly filled up with alot of really drunk people. They just keep on serving them no matter how intoxicated they get. It was very loud at night in the lodge.

One of the bar owner's friends was blackout-level drunk and physically assaulted a disabled veteran while he was trying to leave. When a complaint was made, the owners theatened and tried to blame it on the victim, in order to shut him up.

The new bar manager is always trying to inject herself into the middle of everyone's conversations, stirring stuff up and spreading a bunch of sketchy rumors.

Not good experiences. I won't be having any more of my guests stay there. It was incredibly embarassing, and really made me look bad. I would strongly suggest that you go somewhere in New Bern, or Oriental, if you want to have a nice time.

I truly believe that the only way to turn this business around, would be for the owners to get rid of that intrusive, gossip-spreading bar manager, and then sell the business to someone who understands proper customer service.
