Once Bitten Twice Shy

We had a leaking stopcock, and so looked around for a quote, and had two - one from a local firm called Synergy who quoted £118, bit they were slow to respond, so I booked this firm. I was given a time window of between 08:00 and 10:00.

At just past 10:00 they arrived. Very pleasant and polite men. The engineer said he did not have the part, and departed in the van - half an hour later returned and it took just under half an hour to fit the stopcock. The work was professional and it was a good job. However, the downside was the bill was in excess of £200 as half the labour charge was for time to pickup a £13 stopcock!

As a pensioner very unhappy. Notwithstanding this, I did send a polite complaint but never received a response.

It is a case of ‘Once Bitten, Twice Shy’. Next time I need a plumber Synergy will get my call.

I have had a response - suggesting that I email Sam - I did this last week and had zero response!

Excellent work

The plumber who came was very professional and efficient. He completed the job quickly and left the area spotless. The quality of his work is second to none. We are very pleased with the completed job.

Totally disappointed on all fronts

Totally disappointed on all fronts. Asked for thousands before any work done. Paid direct to heating engineer, for parts. No breakdown invoice showing each parts cost. Didn’t turn up when was meant to so no heating for weeks. Had to get another company to put things right after we were let down.

£200 per hour For No Actual Work!

I contacted SR Plumbing about a small plumbing job and was left with the clear impression on the phone that the cost would be around £100, although no fixed written quote was provided.

A person identifying himself as "Niall" attended, but did not have the correct part with him. He later phoned me from a DIY shop and suggested that I order the part from Amazon myself.

The required items were a T piece and quarter inch plastic tubing. These are standard plumbing parts, yet I was told he could not find them.

He also asked to borrow my tape measure while looking under the sink...so he came with ZERO PREPARATION.

A plumber with no tape measure who asks to borrow one from the customer?

Almost unbelievable, but it gets worse...because at that point, the charging basis became unclear.

SR Plumbing’s original written response to my Google Review focused entirely on pricing, parts, and chargeable time. They wrote:

“We did not provide a quote of £100… all pricing information was mentioned at the time of booking… Charging for time collecting parts for a job with non standard parts is normal practise… As Niall offered you an option to buy the part yourself online the time spent driving to a specific/niche parts supplier could have been avoided…”

There was no mention in that original response of any health and safety issue, cleanliness issue, or reason why the job could not be done.

Later, after I criticised the visit, SR Plumbing gave a different public explanation on Google:

“Hi Brian, we have not charged you for this job.
We had to unfortunately decline the job due to the health and safety issues regarding the cleanliness of the property.
We understand this can be a disappointment but we are unable to assist further.
Many thanks,
SR Plumbing”

That later explanation does not match the original one AT ALL.

The original response was about pricing, parts, travel time, and sourcing time.

The later public response was about health and safety and cleanliness.

That is a significant shift in explanation.

It only appeared after I raised concerns about the charging basis.

On 23 April 2026 I received a phone call from a person who said his name was "Sam".

The call began with "What are you f****** doing?" in an extremely aggressive tone.

The call was about the negative review I had left on Google Reviews - which is there for all to see, suitably edited to include their subsequent unprofessional behavior.

They charge for going to DIY stores for parts as if this is labor.

At £176 per hour, plus VAT ...

ie £200 PER HOUR!

I would be EXTREMELY cautious about using this company.

Reply to SR Plumbing:

I dispute SR Plumbing’s reply.

At no point during the visit was I told that the engineer was refusing to work because of smell or unhygienic conditions. This was never mentioned in their original email or in any communication at the time.

The area relevant to the job (the sink) was clear and usable.

My review concerns the lack of the correct part, the suggestion that I order the part myself from Amazon, the unclear charging position, and the later phone call from a person identifying himself as "Sam".

I have not harassed SR Plumbing.

I have simply used Trustpilot’s normal review process to describe my experience and respond to their public comments.

----------

Update: After posting my review, I saw that other customers have also mentioned being ignored after emailing the company. It doesn’t seem to be an isolated incident, which reinforces my original concerns.

The information written here is fabricated.

We refused the job due to the extremely unhygienic conditions of the property and we believe the customer is now harassing us.

Brian was never charged, as our engineer refused to work in the property due to the smell and unhygienic conditions.

We have been professional and polite throughout but Brian has took offense to us refusing to work in his flat.
