Beach and bar
Our extended family have been gathering at St Audries for decades ever since my wife's parents went there first in 80's. Back then it was a thriving holiday camp with entertainment staff who organised for kids so it was massively attractive to young families. Now wind forward. Gone are those staff. Gone are the numbers of young families to be replaced by elderly home owners. A very different atmosphere now resides.
Of course there still are good things, the wonderful views across the bay for one. However we don't believe the place ever really recovered from the Covid lock down. While others were opening up it remained quiet, no bar, no food. Even now the bar operates on a restricted timetable and calendar. The menu is also fairly limited, chips chips chips
Then there is access to the beach. It no longer exists! The winter and spring rain storms have caused the path to heave and the final steps have been washed off the cliff. The shame of it is, no apparent effort has been made to repair this access. Seems the company find it easier to close it and padlock the gate. The real irony here is that years ago St Audries decided to close the footpath access to their neighbours, Home Farm, also a flourishing holiday site. They thought people from Home Farm were walking across and using St Audries swimming pool as Home Farm didn't have one. Now St Audries have no direct access to the beach they are advising people to drive to home farm to use their access to the sands. Ha. I wonder what Home Farm management would make of that. So yes, St Audries is right by the beach but to get to it currently you have to get in your car and drive.
The access cliff path could be repaired. The bar could be opened more frequently. The menu could be extended to more than deep fry food. I wonder if any of those issues are in the new owners plans? Means spending money though so I'm not holding my breath.
