Disappointing. This place wasn't for us.
Overall we enjoyed our stay, but it was spoiled by a few issues.
First of all the good points: The caravan is in a stunning location right on the sea front, with a good and clear view of the sea. We loved just sitting and watching the ocean.
Mersea Island itself is a charming little place, and we enjoyed our walks here.
The issues were:
The instructions provided mentioned a Wifi booster in the caravan itself, but in fact there wasn't one. When we asked we were told that the instructions were old and out of date. The only Wifi is the Park's own Wifi which was not very good by modern standards, and there was no phone coverage (O2 and 3 Mobile).
Cleanliness: although it was supposed to have been cleaned before we arrived, we found lots of cobwebs, and dirt in lots of places that were not immediately visible, and the outside furniture was also dirty and worn out. 2 rattan seats were actually broken and could not be used. We also found some cosmetics - obviously from the previous guests - on the floor under the bed. Also the cupboard under the sink was dirty.
We stayed for a week, and expected little things like toilet rolls, bin bags to have been provided, but only 2 toilet rolls and no extra bin bags were supplied. When we asked the owner she said she just supplied enough to get us going, and claimed this is normal for lots of places these days. Not in our experience, and we've stayed in many self-catering cottages and caravans in the UK.
There was some noise from the neighbouring caravan playing loud music up to 11pm and dogs barking everywhere from the surrounding caravans. The neighbouring caravans on either side were residential and presumably live there all the time.
On a couple of mornings there was a bad smell coming up from the kitchen sink. We put bleach down and opened the windows. We mentioned this to the owner, and she claimed not to have had this problem before and said that she supposed that she would have to call a plumber. And that was the extent of her communication on the matter, no follow up or concern after that. We had to go and sit outside until the smell passed.
(I wonder if communication would have been better if we had booked through airbnb, instead of booking direct through the website.)
We won't be going again!
If you like loud music and dogs barking and the smell of drainage then you will enjoy it!
