I’ve used Hearst for many years…

I’ve used Hearst for many years subscribing to Prima. I decided to change my subscription to Good Housekeeping last November and was assured its wasn’t a problem with no extra cost. I had to remind them of this as I was still
receiving Prima. However, I haven’t received any magazines since January and after speaking to them on the phone I was told several times to contact my ‘financial institution.’ They were insinuating that my direct debit had been refused but the money was taken from my account last September so I still have a few months to run. They said they’d look into it and would phone me but no response so I’ve emailed them only to get an automated reply saying they’d be in contact within 48 hours. Needless say, I’ve received nothing. I’m really appalled at their customer service.

I subscribed for Women’s Health…

I subscribed for Women’s Health magazine in January.
I have not received any copies of the magazine yet?
Customer service are a joke! They confuse matters worse and contradict what they say in every phone call!

Awful company! Don’t buy from them it’s a con! They have my money and I’m pretty sure I’m never going to receive any copies!

Really bad service

Really bad service. Avoid this company if you can.

They can be good on the phone; polite and helpful while setting up the subscription but hopeless at everything else.
I've bought a few gift subscriptions and they've all been messed up. From sending it to me by mistake, to charging me twice and sending it to myself as well as the person it was a gift for. They've also twice said they've take payment over the phone to renew a subscription but not done so and I'be only found out when the friend that was meant to be receiving it as a present has asked if I cancelled it. This is embarrassing and takes time to sort out and is really inconvenient.
My latest dealings with them means that my 'gift' that was meant to start in September will now be arriving in January (hopefully) and they can offer no discount on this just an apology.
It's not really good enough.

Agree with every single rating on here…

Agree with every single rating on here apparently country living non arrival is treated as good housekeeping when enquired about non arrival no apology no effort no resolve problem no contact name Will definitely not renew with them as discount offered is not worth time and effort dealing with this offhand company will instead support local newsagent I would advise anyone to do likewise utterly useless

What a useless company

What a useless company. Website fails when you try and renew a subscription. Calls take an age to answer, no matter when you call they are always 'experiencing high level of customer calls'. When you do finally get through the staff are not helpful, suggesting you call back because they can't transfer your call. This is the 21st century for goodness sake! If my subscription wasn't a gift for someone living abroad I WOULD DEFINITELY CANCEL!

So have cancelled direct debit through bank. Glad it's only £1 I've lost as according to previous reviews it could have been a whole lot worse!

Hearst Magazines are shockingly bad

This company is shockingly bad. If I could give them zero stars I would.

The problem lies with Prima magazine, which my mother subscribes to. Her August issue when missing and Hearst Magazines told us that they have sent out two replacement issues.

The first replacement was supposedly sent out on 6th July. When that did not arrive we contacted them on the 14th July and was told it would be processed on that day and sent out on 16th July. Neither issue has arrived as of 24th July and these magazines are supposedly sent out from the UK.

We have phoned them a total of 5 times about the August issue not turning up and they kept give us different dates as to when the magazine was sent out and when it should arrive.

I phoned them myself on Saturday to request a refund for the unsent issues as I wanted to cancel my subscription and the girl I spoke was _extremely_ reluctant to give me one. Said that she couldn't authorise it and I told her to put me through to someone who could cancel the subscription and give me refund.

The customer service staff clearly can't get their stories straight and different people will tell you different things. It leaves me lost for words.

If you are thinking of subscribing to a magazine through Hearst Magazines then I would strongly advise you not to. They have questionable business practices, as some of the other reviews would point out.

One of the worst companies I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. You would be better off travelling to buy the magazine yourself to save yourself the horror of having to deal with Hearst Magazines over the phone if you should have any problems.

Unethical business practices

This company is really shady. I entered a giveaway that had a pre-checked box which subscribed me to a free trial copy of town & country magazine and a subsequent 1-year subscription to the magazine, which I received an email about. Upon going to their website there is no way to contact customer service without having an 'account number'. I had to do some googling, but there was a real customer support email page buried in their webpage, and someone replied to my request to cancel within a few days, so one star for that. If anyone encounters this scam definitely search for the customer support email form!

One star is being overly generous but…

One star is being overly generous but there’s no other option! My daughter bought me a year’s subscription for RED magazine for Christmas. January came and went, February came and went (I complained about non-arrival and was told copies were being sent out again), March came and I received a copy. It’s now almost June and the March issue is the only one I’ve received. Each month when I’ve complained I’ve been asked to confirm my address, as if it’s all my fault for my daughter and me not knowing my address?!?! I was asked to go to the sorting office and see if they had a problem, I did, but still haven’t received a copy since March. Unbelievable. Today I telephoned, a manager was contacted and I was told to wait a few days. An hour later I received an email saying the order has been cancelled and my daughter will be refunded. That’s just not good enough, a total cop out, her Christmas present to me didn’t happen, we are both upset about it, but nothing has been done. Shame on you Hearst Magazines, pathetic!!

Shady business practices and false promises

I bought a 6 month subscription for my sister, which they promised would not be extended without my approval.

9 months later they automatically withdrew money from my account without a warning, and the amount was twice as high as i paid for the initial subscription. They refused to answer my emails for a month untill i reversed the payment through my bank. After which they still demanded money because they send 1 magazine already.

Shady business practices and terrible service. I wish i gifted something else to my sister

I was sent an email saying my online subscription to Elle is ending. I never signed up for it. I emailed them back and said I never ordered any subscription and to remove my email from their list. They replied with we can’t locate an account with my email address. It’s not believable since they are emailing me about the subscription. They wanted my name and mailing address and the subscription. I already told them which subscription (Elle Digital) which I didn’t sign up for. They should already have an address attached to that email address if I supposedly signed up. I didn’t reply after that. I think they are a scam.

Awful - ordered a gift box for a subscription. The company apparently sent two but neither arrived. Wouldn't send a third. Christmas present is therefore non-existent on the day. Bunch of crooks!

Such a bad bad experience

I ordered two gift subscriptions. They mis-processed one and made it a general ongoing subscription. When they took another payment I explained to them they had made a mistake and they said they would refund me...that was in February. Since they have fobbed me off with promises of it being paid into my bank account and it could take 6 weeks...I waited...nothing. Then they suddenly declared they had paid me by cheque and their records showed I had cashed it! This a complete lie. I would not recommend anyone even gives them the time of day. I even wrote to the MD...no response. I have been scammed, robbed whatever...a really bad experience with bunch of crooks - beware.

Dreadful experience renewing my Country Living subscription

Dreadful experience renewing my subscription, ranging from premature renewal notices with no renewal date, lack of non-premium-rate telephone lines, an awful website design, to a telephone operative whose only word seemed to be "OK", used a zillion times over the 2 calls needed to renew by credit card. And why 5 security questions when all I'm trying to do is renew an existing subscription. An appalling service level, revealing an incompetent, don't-care management ethos. As a company chairman, I believe that the customer point of interface should be exemplary. Not at Hearst.
