Feels like quite a new product

Feels like quite a new product, lots of small bugs.
Nothing blocking, but can be annoying. The end product (after generating) is good but still a lot of room to improve.
Monthly or annual minutes are also very limiting

Service not entirely as advertised.

Unfortunately, I had to cancel my paid subscription after several hours of use. After having what seemed like an argument with the help centre after it was deemed you can't have 3 personal (selfie avatars) as advertised, they DID provide a pro rata refund. The clip that was produced was poor and very obviously looped which simply was not fit for what I had planned.

Don't subscribe, its non-refundable.

1. Too many content restrictions. Not allowed to use many words, terms and other restrictions.
2. Unable to test out the system as a trial user. You have to subscribe at least 1 month to try, and it's non-refundable.
3. The ai avatar doesnt look natural at all. Disappointing.

The quality was not usable for what was…

The quality was not usable for what was claimed. When I determined this after several hours and asked for a refund they refused. They said it was part of Terms but this was never presented in the signup. The video quality was misrepresented during the sales process and then they would not refund.

Paid for a Service, Got Nothing but Rejections and Excuses

I purchased a paid subscription with Synthesia to create internal training videos. My first video was rejected despite containing no prohibited content. I then removed all references they flagged and resubmitted, but that version was rejected as well. Every appeal was denied with inconsistent justifications, and eventually I was told I needed an “Enterprise account with a custom avatar” — a requirement never disclosed when I purchased. Support promised escalation but stopped responding. Synthesia has taken payment without delivering the service. Very disappointing and deceptive.

Experience the wonder of creating videos with your own personal avatar!

My experience was amazing! Initially, I was asked to create a personal avatar because of content issues, and it was truly amazing! It wasn't pretty, but it was a realistic avatar. Creating a video with my personal avatar was an incredible experience.
The answers to my questions and guidance were friendly and prompt. I felt grateful to the company. However, although it may not be typical, I had several negative experiences with rejections because the content didn't meet the company's rules. What bothered me was that, as I understand it, I assumed using a personal avatar wouldn't cause any issues with the content. As a large company, you must have experienced many challenges and must be strict about the rules that come with them. In any case, thank you for your service. I wish you continued success.

More human than human? Well, no, but it's pretty darn good!

I don't remember what feedback I gave, but I really love how easy it is to use Synthesia to quickly come up with videos that I can use for training pieces, or just to be silly.

I'm particularly inspired by the ability to have more than one AI character talk with another one to create somewhat realistic conversations and scenarios.

The addition of more hand gestures and humanesque movement are extremely welcome and help to sell the illusion even more.

My main gripe is that there's often inconsistent pronunciation of words, and I've had to try different phonetic spellings of words, sometimes very basic words, just to get a character to say something correctly.

I've had to copy and paste correct pronunciations from one part of a video to another as I just couldn't get Synthesia to render the pronunciation that I was after, even after multiple attempts.

Oh well!

Synthesia is still the top of the crop for AI video generation, so I'll roll with the quirks.

I highly recommend it!

We’ve had a very disappointing experience with Synthesia. Our account was deleted without clear communication, and all our videos — including those created after the deletion date — disappeared. After weeks of back-and-forth with support, we still have no resolution, only generic replies. Very frustrating for a paid service.

Great app and outstanding support

I enjoyed the presentation, the quality of the call and material covered. The interactions from the other users and the process which was shown live instead of just from predeveloped items before the call.

Overly Restrictive & Poorly Managed Content Moderation — Not Suitable for Medical, Diagnostics, Healthcare, or Biotech Companies

We evaluated Synthesia for corporate investor and clinician presentations. Our first practice video — based entirely on our public corporate website and focused on a valid, fully compliant medical diagnostics company — was automatically rejected with the message:

“Your video submission does not comply with our content moderation policies and cannot be approved.”

The support process was frustrating:

Initial responses were from an AI bot with canned text.

When a human replied, they admitted the content was flagged because it was “medical related” and therefore any use of their stock avatars is prohibited unless you pay extra for a “custom avatar” (minimum $1,000/year).

They labeled our material as “medical advice” despite it containing no diagnosis, treatment guidance, or unsafe claims — it was an investor/clinical trial overview.

The moderation team refused to reconsider, and the support team said they could not override moderation decisions.

The company clearly believes it knows better than its customers what is “appropriate content” and does not trust customers to self-regulate their own content.

For companies in healthcare, biotech, medical diagnostics, or related scientific fields — even if your content is non-promotional, educational, and entirely factual — Synthesia’s content moderation rules mean you will not be able to use their stock avatars at all. This limitation is buried in their Acceptable Use Policy and not clearly stated before purchase.

Additional issues:
When I asked to close my account after realizing the platform would not work for our needs, customer service made no effort at retention — not even a basic attempt to understand the problem or offer solutions. There is also no self-service way to close or delete your account; you must contact support and wait for them to process it. I am not sure how any services company can exist with such rigid policies and poor customer service.

Why this matters:
If you work in regulated industries, you will likely hit the same roadblock, wasting time and resources. The platform’s automated content moderation is overly broad, misclassifies legitimate content, offers no practical appeal process, shows zero trust in customer judgment, and makes account closure unnecessarily difficult.

Pros:

Was unable to fully test the product due to unreasonable and restrictive content management.

Cons:

Overly broad, poorly implemented content moderation

No real human review in moderation decisions

Company does not trust customers to self-regulate

Policy not transparent before purchase

Support cannot resolve moderation issues

Hidden upsell for “custom avatar” if your content touches on any medical topic

No self-service account deletion; must go through support

No customer retention effort when cancelling

Location: Texas, USA
Would I recommend to others? No — especially not for healthcare, biotech, or scientific organizations.

Synthesia has been a huge success!

Synthesia has been a huge success for our company. We are converting as much department and enterprise-wide training and communications to it. We've seen improved engagement with our staff resulting in more effective communications. Editors of the content love it as well, it may actually replace Powerpoint for many teams. Thanks again,

Unlawful Account Suspension, Data Retention, and Failure to Refund

We procured a one-year subscription to your service for the development of video content focused on medical and scientific topics. However, a few months into the subscription term, the platform blocked our account.

We are currently denied access to our profile, which also prevents us from deleting our payment data. Our personal information has been retained at their sole discretion, leaving us with no means to manage or remove it.

The fee for the unused portion of the subscription has not been refunded. We have received no support or assistance in obtaining the reimbursement of these funds.

Absolutely useless

Absolutely useless. No transparency from the start and clearly out to get your money. I signed up and instantly realised their list of avatars was not suitable for what I needed. The customisation feature is useless and, quite frankly, pointless.

Within 10 minutes of signing up, I contacted them to explain it wouldn’t work for me and requested a refund. I couldn’t get through to a human, only a bot that argued with me, claiming there’s a way to view the avatars before signing up (a deliberately long, hidden process you’d never naturally find). They also made it clear there are no refunds under any circumstances.

On top of that, VAT isn’t shown in the advertised price. I saw £60-something per month but ended up paying over £80.

Account Closed Despite Full Payment Received November 25th

Disappointing Customer Service and Unexpected Account Closure

I’m genuinely disappointed with how Synthesia has handled our subscription. We paid our invoice in full as of November 25th, yet without any prior notice, our account was abruptly closed in mid-August. We didn’t receive any warning emails or communication explaining why this happened.

As a business with European clients, we expected a higher standard of customer service. Suddenly losing access to our account without explanation is not something we find acceptable or typical of companies operating in Denmark or the UK. We hope Synthesia will improve their communication and customer support going forward.
