Tangerine car rental
Tangerine car rental
Do not use this company!
They may appear cheap on comparison sites, but with the add ons (large upfront deposit against toll charges for example) they are not cheap.
They are dishonest. They will find damage to the car on return and charge it to your damage deposit. Having signed the agreement on picking up the car there is nothing you can do about it.
You have been warned - use at your own peril !
Terrible then somewhat better service
My sisiter-in-law passed away 1 month ago. As executor I would like to know the status of her accounts. She had GIC's (CAD & USD) as well as TFSA's. Everytime (5X!) I call the estate department, I get no answer after a lengthy wait, or I am transferred to a mailbox that says, "The mailbox is full. Thank you, goodbye!"
Moral of the story - if you are going to die, don't have anything to do with Tangerine!
Update: A representative, Betty, just called and was very helpful. It took a whole week to get to talk to someone, but now things seem to be progressing well.
Update: Progress has stalled.
Unacceptable e-Transfer Delays & Poor Customer Service
I'm absolutely frustrated with Tangerine! Twice now, their e-Transfers took 31+ minutes to arrive in my email - just 1 minute past their strict 30-minute claim window, making the funds inaccessible.
When I tried to cancel the transfers through online banking, the system repeatedly errored out at the final confirmation step with a generic "Sorry, please try again later" message.
The customer service experience was equally terrible - representatives (with such strong accents they were barely understandable) gave me the runaround before finally processing cancellations. Now I'm told I must wait 2 business days to recover my own money. This feels intentionally designed to hold funds hostage.
After this ordeal, I'm actively switching banks. Tangerine's unreliable e-Transfers and abysmal support make them unworthy of customer trust.

I had an account for years then got scammed and my account was closed by fraud NOW SEEMS AM BLACKLISTED and that is sad not allowing a previous customer to come back after learning a lesson 😞 so wouldn't recommend
Very challenging to get your money out
Terrible service. Tried to move my GIC to another bank after expiration and gave written notice. 6 calls and 3 emails over 30 days still nothing was done.
The only reason this got resolved is that you must request to speak to a supervisor. This triggers an email acknowledging your request which must be resolved within 56 days of complaint. This requirement is from FCAC (Financial Consumer agency of Canada).

Tangerine has stopped providing online banking services to anyone who happens to rely on a Power of Attorney. If you have an elderly parent whose banking needs fall to you (as POA), I would urge you to avoid Tangerine unless you want to spend endless time listening to terrible hold music waiting to have a supervisor assist with simple banking needs.

There's no way to transfer money on the website, which defeats the purpose of online banking.
Always down for maintenance
Always down for maintenance. Pathetic banking app. No other app goes down this consistently, extremely unreliable.
If I could give less than one
If I could give less than one. I would. This has been one of the worst banking experiences I have had. Online bank- you are kidding yourself. Access in another Nation- you kidding yourself. Service when you are experiencing issues - Non-existent. I would NEVER EVER recommend this online banking service. You suck.
One of the worst banking experiences…
One of the worst banking experiences I’ve ever had. Tangerine froze my account over a completely normal transaction. Nothing suspicious, nothing unusual. No warning, no explanation. Just locked out. The only way to resolve it? Call their “security team”, which apparently means sitting on hold for over an hour with someone who barely understands the issue and offers no real help.
This isn’t a one time issue either. It’s a pattern. I’ve had smaller issues before, and the support has always been a nightmare. Delays, confusion, and no accountability. They just don’t care.
I know they’re owned by Scotiabank, and honestly, that checks out. I avoid Scotiabank for a reason, and now you’re stuck dealing with the same incompetence in orange packaging.
Tangerine/Scotiabank seriously needs to invest in actual customer support instead of spending money slapping their name on arenas and bike shares. I’d rather hide my money under a mattress than deal with this bank again.
Very bad service
Very bad service. The app is stupid and the CS are useless. It’s lucky that I haven’t transfer a cent to the new account yet. I would pay monthly fee to stick to a more secure bank rather than putting money in a bank with irresponsible CS.
Worst bank in the history of banks.
Worst bank in the history of banks.
Their customer service is shit
I’d give them a zero if I could
I’d give them a zero if I could! Opened a new account with them and closed my old one and within 60 days they sent a letter saying they were closing my account. They said for not meeting the obligations which is crazy because I wasn’t doing anything different from my other bank. Had an etransfer from my Mom and they froze the account for no reason. Was a huge pain to open another and change all my direct deposit stuff again. When I called they couldn’t explain there reason and were rude! Biggest mistake ever to switch to them, I don’t recommend anyone using them because they suck 100 percent!!!!!!!
Speed is not as advertised and…
Speed is not as advertised and connection is very unstable. Had to always turn the modem on and off to get the speed back for about a day, then it becomes slow again. Would not recommend this company. Also, after 2 months in, they increased prices.
Tangerine should be ashamed
Credit card was compromised, the locked my account and I've been trying to fix it for 5 weeks, I called their customer service dozens of times and sent Identification photos in mail at multiple occasions and nothing helped my case, once I fix this I'm paying my credit card and closing my account, this is absolutely crazy.
Terrible
Terrible. My pay counts as 250 deposit into my account. Now they’ve changed the terms and apparently can do so take things out and add things in. I regret I ever switched and will most likely just close my account. They screwed me out of 250 when I qualified. Suck crap. Sheisters. Brand new client and what regrets i have…
Very poor service
It is your money yet you can not etransfer what you want, can not change withdraw limits and can not even close your account by withdrawing all of your money. Takes forever to get a person.
AVOID THIS BANK IF YOU VALUE ACCESS TO…
AVOID THIS BANK IF YOU VALUE ACCESS TO YOUR MONEY. Tangerine froze my account TWICE in two days over a certified check deposit with a minor formatting error (accidentally entered $8278 instead of $82.78). Despite CIBC confirming the check’s legitimacy and a future deposit date (May 2, 2025), Tangerine labeled this “suspicious scamming” and closed my account without evidence or explanation.
Even after escalating to supervisors and providing written proof, they refused to reinstate my account or compensate for financial losses (missed bills, declined transactions, and investment disruptions). Their customer service is unprofessional, dismissive, and ignores regulatory obligations.
Got a driect deposit there holding it…
Got a driect deposit there holding it for 8 business day that's complete bs do not use this bank i mean I could see if it was a cheque but a driect deposit
thief's crooks clowns. closed account
1.4 stars on google !!!!!!! LOL
You clowns took money out of my account for inactivity then send me a warning email two months later ?????? WTH
How does that work ?
I called in to complaint a half dozen times and just a calamity of fools. Got so upset of the disservice that I transferred all my money out and closed my account.
Which is the next issue, to close my account took calling in 6+ times and was the most painful endeavor ever.
