Pros and Cons working in testerwork based on experience

The first things that is awesome is the Payment system where the payment for bug submission could be multiplied by the current rank, and it's could reach 2x of the base payment while in Elite rank, moreover, IF there is a special case where the project payment is doubled because of the small amount of Bug, The payment for each bug could reach 4x of the base payment, therefore even for low severity issue, we could get paid up to $8 which is much much more compared to the payment from other testing site.

And also the career expansion in it is also quite big, IF you focused and contributed to the company consistently, there is a high chance that you will be received inviation to other division other then as tester, like Test Case Creation, Project Report, etc, therefore you could get more income source other than bug reporting

However I only give 4 stars because there is 1 bug flaw in it, which is for new tester IF they unable to raise their rank after their first few project, they will be having a hard time getting another project since the system filter the tester by rank and those with high rank will be prioritized to receive project. Therefore for new tester it's usually feels that the project rarely appear or they didn't get project for month....

Hi there,

Thank you for sharing such a detailed and insightful review. We really appreciate the time you took to break down both the pros and cons based on your experience 🙏

We’re glad to hear that you value the ranking and reward system, especially how performance, consistency, and quality can significantly increase bug payouts. It’s great to see that you’ve also noticed the opportunities to grow beyond bug reporting, such as getting involved in test case creation or reporting, that kind of long-term contribution is exactly what we aim to support.

We also completely understand and acknowledge your point about the challenges new testers can face early on. Ranking, eligibility requirements, and client needs do play a big role in invitations, and we know this can feel discouraging at the beginning. Your feedback is valid and helpful, and improving accessibility and opportunities for newer testers is something we continue to work on as we grow the platform.

Thank you again for your honest feedback and for being part of the Tester Work community. We’re grateful to have engaged testers like you helping us improve!

Best freelance QA platform I’ve used so far

I’ve been working with TesterWork as a freelance QA tester for around 3 years now. When I started, I was very much an amateur, so it’s been great to grow alongside the platform. Overall, it’s been a really solid experience! The platform itself is easy to use (especially compared to some other platforms), test instructions and expectations are clear, and communication from the team has only ever been positive whenever I’ve needed help.

Something to keep in mind is that tests can be a bit 'seasonal'. Sometimes there’s plenty to do, other times you need to wait for tests to become available in your country. There's periods where you're super busy, and periods where it's quiet. That’s pretty normal for this kind of work though, and when tests do come through, it makes for a good payday!

The work feels fair, payments are reliable, and there’s a nice mix of exploratory testing and structured test cases - it's exciting testing out features that haven't been fully released yet. I’ve also been given opportunities beyond just testing, including joining their report creation team and working as a community test manager, so there’s some room to grow if you’re eager and consistent.

It’s not a 9-5 replacement (yet), but as freelance or side income, it’s been reliable and legit. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone interested in QA testing and flexible remote work.

Hi there,

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful and detailed review!
It means a lot to hear that you’ve grown alongside Tester Work over the past 3 years.

We’re really glad you highlighted the clarity of test instructions, ease of using the platform, and positive communication with the team as those are all things we work hard on behind the scenes. You’re also spot on about the “seasonal” nature of testing; availability can vary by client needs, and we appreciate you framing that realistically for others considering freelance QA work.

It’s great to hear that you’ve had opportunities beyond testing as well, from report creation to community test management. We truly value testers who are consistent, curious, and eager to grow, and we’re happy when that leads to new paths and responsibilities.

Thank you again for being such an engaged part of our community and for recommending Tester Work. We’re really glad to have you with us and look forward to what’s next!

Four Years of Learning, Exploring, and Making an Impact!

For over three years now, I have been contributing as a tester on TesterWork, and it has been an incredibly valuable and rewarding experience. The platform offers a wide range of projects, from mobile apps to web applications and games, which allows testers to develop their skills in exploratory, accessibility, localization, and functional testing. Every project brings something new to learn, whether it’s testing different devices, understanding user flows, or exploring accessibility and localization challenges.

The community on TesterWork is supportive and collaborative, and the process of reporting bugs and providing feedback is straightforward and efficient. I particularly appreciate the clear guidance and resources provided, which help testers submit high-quality reports that genuinely make an impact. While some projects can be competitive, this pushes me to be thorough, detail-oriented, and precise, which has strengthened my testing skills over time.

One of the best parts of TesterWork is the opportunity to work on real-world products used by people across the globe. Knowing that my feedback helps improve apps and websites for thousands of users is both motivating and satisfying. I’ve also learned a lot about time management, meeting deadlines, and communicating effectively with test managers, all while working remotely.

Overall, TesterWork is a reliable and dynamic platform for anyone looking to gain hands-on testing experience, improve their skills, and connect with a worldwide network of passionate testers. It’s not just a platform for earning recognition; it’s a space to grow, learn, and have fun while contributing to meaningful projects. I’m proud to be part of this community and look forward to many more years of testing adventures.

Rude test managers

Didn't accept the bug that I've found despite showing proof. Kept making excuses that it shouldn't be a bug and should work correctly which is very stupid because that's the reason why the app is tested -- to see if it works across devices. They also didn't pay one of my approved cases and just removed me from the test after I couldn't respond to the edit requests on time which was sent to me very late as they run on a different timezone. Don't bother reporting a bug. They will do everything to not pay you. Verylow rate, anyway. Not worth your effort.

Hi there,

We’re really sorry to hear about your experience. We understand how frustrating this must have felt, especially when you put time and effort into testing and didn’t feel heard or treated fairly. That’s not the impression we want to leave with anyone in our community.

Bug reviews and payments are based on client requirements and project timelines, but we recognize that time zone differences and tight edit windows can create real challenges. Your feedback is valid, and we take it seriously as we continue improving how we communicate and support our testers.

Tester work has been wonderful

With TesterWork, my experience so far has been wonderful. Within the last 2 months, I earned pretty well from them. I took part in 4 cycles back to back and some of the cycles overlapped. Of course I've taken part in othr cycles before but it is usually very scarce (one cycle in 6 months).
I will give them props for their bug payments which are quite high, Their reproduction renumeration is also one of the highest I've seen (1.55 and I did more than 20 in one cycle...wink wink).
The only issue I have with them is work not being constant (which is why I'm giving them 4 and not 5 stars).

A year with Tester Work

Reading negative reviews about Tester Work in here makes me feel sorry for those who had trouble getting money from the platform. For me, as a full-time freelancer, I was hoping Tester Work would give me at least a job every month since they will pay me via PayPal very quickly, 5 workdays max with a $5 minimum withdrawal. Sadly, this account on Trustpilot has not yet been claimed by the company. Tester Work is a non-US company, and every transfer through PayPal would cost me a 5% fee. Overall since I joined a year ago, I have already been invited to 13 test cycles with very good payment. From 13 TCs, the highest payment I received was $180, while the lowest was $12. For an exploratory test, a low bug report, if approved, will earn you $4, which is quite high based on my knowledge, and $1 for a reproduction is also awesome if you are fast enough to catch as much as you can.

Test work not being paid and no communication

No communication at all from their side whenever you ask questions, no agreed payment. Unclear requirements, completely non reliable human beings. I wonder if there is any public authority who could take a look at their activity. Any lawyer here that could address this ?

Hi there,

We’re sorry to hear that this was your impression and we understand how frustrating it can be when expectations around bug acceptance and compensation don’t align with your experience.

Bug evaluations are based on client-defined requirements and reproducibility criteria, which are communicated before the start of the test cycle. Regarding compensation, payment rates and scopes are also communicated before participation so testers can decide whether a project fits their expectations.

We also want to reassure you that Tester Work does not misuse personal data. Any information requested is strictly related to testing purposes, sensitive data must always be blurred, and all materials are deleted once projects are completed.

They don't pay/Scam

They don't pay. They give so many excuses like the cycle is not done but it's been month. I have submitted many tickets that i did project but didn't get paid. They will just always answer a script that the test or project is not done. This company is scam. No remorse for people doing test, sharing information to researchers though thats included in NDA but the time and effort isn't getting paid.

Hi there,

We’re sorry to hear about your frustration and understand how upsetting it is when payment feels delayed. We want to clarify that payments are issued within 2 weeks after a test cycle ends. A test cycle officially ends once all testers have submitted their results and our Test Managers have reviewed everything. Until then, payments can’t be processed, which is why there may appear to be a delay.

We appreciate the time and effort you put into testing, and we take concerns about payment seriously. If you feel there’s been an issue with a specific cycle, please reach out to our support center so we can review it directly and assist you.

Scam and fraud

It is clear from the suitability test that it’s a BS. The test just created to f@ck you up, no actual knowledge or capabilities being tested. Could be their subjective access bottleneck strategy, so a waste of time is horrendous!
If your criteria is single mom or single dad, state this in your job info before making people you “don’t think are worthy of your jobs” go through your crap tests.

The earnings you make is ridiculously low compared to German minimum wage law.. you might be working for hours and make pennies where as you can use those hours in other part time jobs that will pay you well.. it’s not worth it if you don’t make atleast 12 euros / hour. I don’t think if you work 8 hours straight you will make 96 euros per day…
