Youngster seemed excited at 6 months of books. For me, there's a lack of website clarity regarding the book tin. Make it crystal clear it's also suitable for youngsters? I asked via email - but no... See more

I read all sorts of books I’d never otherwise have discovered. Some of these were unforgettable. Just one of my books was unreadable for me - a promising story but far too violent from the outset.

A proper five star service!

By the time I was six (and that's a while ago) I could read, and by the time I was seven I was a regular visitor to my local library. Everything about reading helped my personal development and fired my imagination. I went on to do fairly well at school, and eventually found a profession that allowed me to spend a lot of time engaging with the written English language. Whilst I embraced new technology when it came along, I saw many of my friend's children become obsessed with a type of communication that seemed to avoid the complexities of constructing a full sentence, and abhorred any exchange that was more than a few words in either direction. It seemed a common denominator was the fact that their parents hadn't been readers when they were small, possibly victims of the 'let them watch TV to keep them quiet' generation. Books were something that were left at school, and Libraries seemed to be forgotten about. I even heard the comment that there wasn't time to go to them. Sad world indeed.

Determined that our grand nieces and nephews should at least be given the chance of avoiding this we've been buying book subscriptions for them all from their first or second birthday on. I did a lot of research into book clubs before I did this, as I suppose I'd really have preferred to do this myself. However my knowledge of childrens literature is somewhat limited so thought I'd better leave it to the experts.

The reviews for Willoughby were consistently positive. My subsequent experience has been a delight. The service, from buying the subscription to having the books delivered, is nothing short of excellent. The children look forward to their package arriving, a box with their name on, delivered by the postman. The contents are intriguingly wrapped, and as every one is picked with their interests in mind (accurately) they can't wait to look inside and see what this month's story is about. Their parents love them too - I'm sure they buy them books all the time, but the steady additions to their libraries gives them something that is uniquely theirs.

The Willoughby offer is not only good value, it feels like they really have a passion to deliver a great service and their love of the written word shows through. Their skill in sourcing exciting and engaging books for children is exemplary, and their administrative procedures for delivering the service is reliable and transparent. I was particularly impressed by an occasion when one of the nephews had moved house and I wasn't sure whether he'd remembered to tell Willoughby. On contacting them they, without hesitation, sent a second book to the new address to make sure our grand niece didn't miss her monthly read!

Recommended without hesitation.

Excellent!

I've purchased a few book subscriptions from The Willoughby Book Club, and had one purchased for me too. I've found this company to be excellent, both as a recipient of their subscriptions and when buying subscriptions for other people. Getting books through the post is so much fun!

12 month subscription - recommended for the avid reader

I purchased a 12 month subscription for my wife as a birthday present. As an avid reader she loved the monthly surprise of a new book dropping through the letter box. All books sent hit the mark and she not only enjoyed authors that she already knew but also discovered new writers to explore further. I would definately recommend the service.

A high 5 from me

After extensive research on different book subscription services I finally decided on WBC because of the reviews and reliability others had received. I bought a subscription for my partner and she has loved receiving books by post, it must just be the excitement of getting something other than bills in the post! She has thoroughly enjoyed each book and has even recommended WBC to friends and family! So a big thank you and keep up the good work!

Great service, Great Books

I bought a three month book subscription for my father, for Christmas. Purchasing the subscription was easy. I chose the contemporary fiction package and gave examples of authors that my dad enjoys. The resulting books were 'spot on'. So spot on in fact that he already owned one of books that he received. Willoughby Books were great and replaced the book, allowing my dad to just pass on the duplicate to a friend.
Great service from a local company whose passion for literature is obvious.

Wonderful!

I bought a 6-month gift subscription for my partner, and he absolutely loves it.

I sent Willoughby Book Club a list of some of his favourite authors, and every single book they picked for him has been right up his street, despite me sending in quite an eclectic mix of authors. The subscription came with a voucher to give as a gift before the first book arrived, and unwrapping a new book has become a highlight of each month.

Most of the books he had not heard of before which is amazing as he is an avid reader. He received one book he already owned, I emailed Willoughby Book Club and I got a reply the same day, with a different book being sent out for free on the same day. Absolutely amazing, and very personal, service. I will definitely be using Willoughby Book Club again for gifts to loved ones, and I've been a bit jealous of my partner so I may have to gift myself a subscription to see what Willoughby Book Club would pick for my reading style!

Great service!

Got this as a gift for a bookworm and really recommend! The books picked from the bespoke service were all in tune with the suggestions. Unfortunately, one of the books received was something they already had but they responded to my email immediately and sent a replacement free of charge!

Gift to myself

I received a three month subscription as a gift and have been delighted with the choices, which arrive beautifully wrapped each month. So far, there hasn't been a dud choice, and I've even decided to renew my subscription. I also got in touch with the customer service team to ask them to change my choice of books from the original subscription and the team there couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. Highly recommended.

Willoughby Book Club

Purchased as a gift for my mum, I was impressed by the packaging of the books, and the free replacement when mum was sent a book she’d already read. Put as 4 stars because the first book recieved seemed to be chosen based on newness and didn’t have as personal a feel, but otherwise very happy.

A highlight of my month

I received a Willoughby Book Club subscription for my birthday and, when that expired, was lucky enough to get another for Christmas. They have been absolutely fantastic. Their choices are always spot-on: books I would have had no hesitation in choosing for myself, but with plenty of variety including high quality books in translation (a big plus for me). Sometimes I wonder if they can read my mind. Their customer service is superb too: very responsive and even willing to send me a free replacement book when I already owned one of the books they'd picked for me. Receiving my book is a highlight of my month and I'll be renewing my subscription!

Lovely idea and great gift!

Lovely idea and well received by my daughter. She is an avid reader, so it was lovely that WBC took extra time to check out if she had read a new book or not before sending it to us. We love WBC!

Whilst a simple concept the execution is brilliant. No quibble sending of a different book if the original has been read by you, clever selection of books based on some knowledge of your reading preferences always means a pleasing surprise when the monthly choice arrived as well as widening your author knowledge, always beautifully wrapped so it feels like you are unwrapping a birthday present. Add in their donation of books to Africa & informative newsletters & you have a company that oozes their love of reading.

great overall

Great selection of books sent overall, and no questions asked when a book was sent that the recipient already had - a new book was sent without question. A couple of less good choices (over 24 months) - but I think this is unavoidable as reading is such a personal thing!

WBC is one of the best subscription…

WBC is one of the best subscription services I've signed up to. The books are excellently selected, perfect for all ages, couples, fiction and non. It encouraged my 14 year old brother to aim to read a book per month, and he's signed up again and again!

Amazing gift, for others and yourself :)
