It started off great, then really raised the cost of leads for service providers. For instance a "lead" cost $120 for a $400 job (if a client will even pay that), that is for every service provider th... See more

Thumbtack is continuing to promote and provide leads to a contractor whose conduct has caused substantial financial harm and raised serious concerns regarding competency, compliance, professionalism, and consumer protection.
This is not an isolated misunderstanding or simple workmanship dispute. There is a broader pattern of bad-faith conduct, and we are deeply concerned that other homeowners could experience similar financial losses and potentially unsafe or noncompliant work if this contractor continues operating on the platform without stronger intervention. At this point, we are extremely concerned that obvious consumer safety and compliance concerns have not resulted in stronger intervention. We provided substantial documentation regarding the contractor’s conduct, including aggressive behavior, defective and incomplete work, contract deficiencies identified by counsel, payment issues, and ongoing patterns of behavior that demonstrate bad faith.
What is especially troubling to us is that these concerns appear to be ongoing and documented, yet the contractor continues being allowed to operate through the platform and obtain new customers. From our perspective, continuing to facilitate and promote this contractor despite repeated warning signs creates serious risk not only for homeowners, workers, but potentially for the platform itself.
I bought a ceiling fan from Lowes, they contract their installations out to Thumbtack. After my purchase they tell me someone will contact me in 2 days.
After 6 days I call them. They tell me their still looking for someone to do the job.
12 days after purchase they give me a time and date.
A day later I get a confirmation email with a completely different time.
A day after that, I get a text message asking me to schedule a time and date. The soonest date I can pick is four days after the day they gave me 2 days ago.
I can't image how a company can stay in business like this. I'll definitely never use the service again.

He and his team are incredible. My yard was a true nightmare and they cleaned it out. He WILL be returning to my place to do additional work very soon!

Baker The Handyman:: Very good work and reliable contractor to do cabinet work in my kitchen.
Showed up on time for the appointment and kept in contact with me.
Started working immediately after arriving and knew exactly what was needed for my repairs.
Very nice person, clean, and left my house clean and orderly when working.
The price charged was more than reasonable and he was very efficient.
If I need this type of work done again, I will certainly give a call. Very pleased.

I used and trusted Thumbtack for years with my business. I decided to close it down a few years ago and I closed my Thumbtack account at the same time. Thumbtack continued to charge me monhtly for an account I cannot log into. I tried reaching out to support with no luck. I had to report it to my bank and jump through hoops to get the charges canceled YEARS after I canceled the account. I do not recommend this company at all!

I needed a TV mounted and found a Handyman with 5 stars on Thumbtack. Should be good, right? The gentleman showed up and I'm sorry but he smelled bad. He did not bring a level or measuring tape and proceeded to tell me the mount would be level bc he'd been doing this for 20 yrs. Let's just say I now have huge holes in my wall, covered in dirt marks, and the mount & TV are not level. Would NEVER use this app again

Thumbtack provides a list of what they think are professional contractors, although they do not screen or verify their experience or professionalism. I feel victim to one of their so-called "2 Son's Transport" ghost/rogue moving company based at a residential home in 1178 S. Shadow Drive, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 29464. This company was far from professional, damaged furniture I've owned for decades, and demanded payment for substandard moving services. Thumbtacks customer service is a joke. As a "third party" promoter, they are not responsible nor hold any of their contractors accountable. I provided extensive documentation and photographs of what I experienced, and it was nothing more than a "waste of time." Avoid "Thumbtack" at all costs, as they are nothing like what they advertise. They claim to mediate as a "third-party," but they mediate nothing as I provided credible evidence in photographs, and they claimed I should've videotaped all our furniture and house to verify my claims. What crap is that! No one videotapes all their belonging thinking that they're dealing with a reputable mover advertised on "Thumbtack". Well, "Thumbtack" possesses no credibility whatsoever. Avoid them at all costs!

I had an account with this thieves hoping that I could make some money. After setting up my profile every single offer that I received I was charged money before viewing or accepting it.
Their so called support basically said “oh well” so simply having an account cost me hundreds of dollars and never been able to recover a PENNY, and they have a gut to have ads on the tv, and they have a gut to reply this review by defending nonsense things. Thief is a thief and as a single parent I hope and pray every single PENNY that they STOLE from me comes out from them somehow.

I bought a ceiling fan from Lowe's April 23rd 2026, paying for installation.
It did not go well. I was told that somebody was going to call in a couple days to schedule the installation.
Instead, an email from Thumbtack showed up.
I called Thumbtack the next day to find out the procedure and double check that the pro would be insured and licensed. Thumbtack guaranteed that the pro would be licensed and insured.
Having heard nothing for almost a week, I called Thumbtack April 30th to find out what was going on. Thumbtack said installation was scheduled for May 28th. That was too far away. Thumbtack said in that case it's scheduled for May 7th or May 8th. The pro would be in contact 48 hours before they arrived.
I heard nothing on May 5th (48 hours before May 7th), so I called on May 6th to see if a pro would be here May 8th. Thumbtack told me they would escalate the order and somebody would call me with an update the next morning (May 7th).
I hadn't heard from Thumbtack the next morning, so I called Thumbtack at 3pm.
Thumbtack insisted the job was still scheduled for May 8th at noon, even though Thumbtack was STILL LOOKING for a licensed electrician to take the job.
The calltaker could not connect me to a manager, saying that no Thumbtack calltaker can connect anyone to a manager, ever.
At the end of the call, Thumbtack said it's up to the customer to contact Lowe's and cancel the installation.
I emailed the Lowe's Pro who sold the fan and the installation, asking if things could be worked out.
Instead, 6 hours later, there is an email from Thumbtack saying that THEY have canceled the installation, and that Lowe's will follow-up.
I am unhappy that Lowe's didn't tell me up front that they are using Thumbtack.
And I am disgusted with Thumbtack.
There is no receipt to upload, because apparently one's Thumbtack account is generated only when the pro is assigned to the installation.

As a professional in the hospitality industry for over 20 years, I expect transparency from my lead sources. Recently, Thumbtack has been charging me "Direct Lead" fees ($20+) for leads that already have 5+ professionals responded. How can a lead be "Direct" (meaning the client specifically chose me) when the client is already engaged with five other vendors? To make matters worse, the messages aren't even addressed to my name. It feels like the app is blasting notifications just to collect fees from pros. I have requested a full refund and will be closing my account if this is not resolved. Pros beware: check your "responded" count before you trust their billing.

Thumbtack has been very disappointing. I was charged for leads that never responded, including automatic match leads where the customer completely ignored my messages.
Paying for unresponsive or low-quality leads feels unfair, especially for small business owners trying to grow honestly. I contacted support about refunds, but the issue was not resolved satisfactorily.
Because of these experiences, I no longer trust the platform and decided to close my account.

As a homeowner looking for a concrete contractor to build out a small slab for a shed, I decided to give Thumbtack a try. I reviewed several contractors, selected one that sounded good, and reached out to (what I thought) was that single contractor to get an estimate for the work. Not only did that contractor never respond, but instead, dozens of others have inundated me like car salesmen on a used car lot. I've been spammed, texted, incessantly called to the point where I've had to turn my phone off to avoid interruptions at work. And they're mostly pushy call center people that still call again and again even when I tell them to stop. One inquiry has turned into a nightmare. I didn't sign up to be harassed like this. I thought, and the platform seemed to indicate, I was agreeing to talk to one contractor, not sign up to be harassed by dozens. Never, ever use this service. It's a joke.

What they are charging for leads now is crazy! Over $55 per lead charges to my card. When I started with them it was $8-12. If I’m charging an average of $150 for the service then is not worth it, by the time I have a paying lead, I have already lost money.

Reply from Thumbtack
They steal your money, just if someone texts you saying hi, stick a to off, just hand it buisness cards yourself, stop paying for wasteful things that can be fine by yourselves much cheaper and stress free, the same with banks, no one ever needs to put there money in a bank, they only tell you that's to steal your money! And didn't get me started on retirement, when they ask force you to wait until 67 when that's only giving you extra$5000/ year instead of the $25,000 you could of had without waiting 5 more years, plus after retirement you can still work and get another check so that's even more money, it's all a scheme! 😂

Silence from this company after 10 days. When you call, there's a 30 minute hold. When you finally speak to someone, they're passive aggressive, read from a script, don't answer your questions, and make false promises. Avoid this service. I had to ask for a refund.
And check out the scripted response to this review.

Worst ever! Took my $350 and throw garbage leads. No one of the leads answers.

I would not recommend this platform at all. If I had to rate it, it would be a 0 out of 10.
I invested over $1,000 and did not see any real return. On top of that, I lost a significant amount of time following up on leads that did not convert into actual jobs.
In my experience, many leads are not aligned with the pricing and service details already listed in my profile. Even when my prices are clearly stated, I still receive basic inquiries like pricing for a one-bedroom, and I am charged just for responding.
This makes the system feel unfair, as you end up paying for leads that are not qualified or have not reviewed your profile.
Additionally, many clients say they are looking for recurring services, but in reality are only interested in a one-time deep cleaning at a very low price. This leads to wasted time and money with little to no return.
The cost per lead adds up quickly, especially when expectations and budgets do not match.
For small businesses, I strongly recommend focusing on referrals, repeat clients, and direct marketing instead of relying on platforms like this.

DEFINITELY DO NOT!!! Recommend thumbtack if your looking to get leads, they’re a scam if you ask me, constantly wanting to charge your card for leads that you’re not even getting majority of the time, and half of the people don’t even respond once you do message them back, it’s a bunch of B.S!!!!!
